Noise, Noise And MORE Noise!

Yes, you guessed it! After a quiet week my neighbour is back with a vengeance!
Online there is a template letter that I can fill in to post to a noisy neighbour. I was going to do this at 2.15am today (before going to bed) but the neighbour and her 3 pals all went out, presumably nightclubbing.
Hoorah! I thought. They can let off steam, she will get knackered and fall asleep when she got back.
WRONG!
They all piled back in at whatever time and both John and myself have had to get up before 8am. This is particularly unfair on John as he's been working all week, which involves a 40 mile round trip to Penrith. So, he deserves a lie-in, right? Especially since he's normally up at around 6.20am.
I posted the letter at about 8.15am in my nightie and dressing-gown. Must've looked a right sight if anyone saw me, but I don't care.
I have also sent the same letter via email to Impact Housing, who is the neighbour's landlord. I have told them that if John has an accident through tiredness behind the wheel, or if I have a heart attack through stress, then I shall SUE Impact Housing.
Unfortunately, I doubt this "Caroline" woman will even see the letter until Monday, unless she has her laptop with her all the time.
Not a great start to the weekend!

I haven't lived in an apartment/multi-family complex in so long, I forgot that some neighbors can be just plain discourteous. Even when I did live in an apartment, I don't remember any loud neighbors, except one, and that was in the 70's. Part of my reason for moving way out of town...privacy. And I do have that. I also built my home with insulated concrete form and it keeps all the noise out! When I think about selling this home and moving back in to town, I think about how close the neighbors will be...and I get depressed. Hopefully, I'll be able to hang on to this house until my health fails and I have to move closer to a hospital. Good luck with your neighbor!

The streets are shorter here I would think but I reckon there are about 40 houses down this little street, something like that. They are very old too, at least 100 years old. The walls are very thin, which doesn't help. At Mum's she has an extension where my other hi-fi resides. I can blast that quite loud because - not only does it have breeze blocks from her extension but the one next door as well (it's the same size) with bricks inbetween those. Still didn't party all night though like these clowns next door to me now.
God, I wish we could adopt your cops. I'd love it if they all got hauled off to the cells in handcuffs.

Yes, it does have its advantages being "out of Town" as you put it. I prefer animals to people anyway. I'm sure if we had animals as neighbours they'd be fine!
It's quiet next door at the moment but I'm dreading it later on tonight. Oh, well, there's always Environmental Health to ring on Monday. I reckon they are the only people that can help me out with this problem.
The houses around here are terraced so you get a row of them without any spaces inbetween, unlike semi-detached, which is the type of house we would go for if Impact Housing paid us to leave lol.

I guess I'm going to have to make it to the UK sometime and check this out for myself. When you say "terraced", is that kind of like the "row" houses we have back east in the U.S....just house and house and house, but no room between them (zero property line)? And in the U.S., Environmental has nothing to do with loud neighbors. We call the police and they get them to quiet them down or haul them off to jail or something. In town (Las Cruces, NM), they have noise ordinances and you can be ticketed (pay a fine) or whatever for non-compliance. Out in the county where I live, I'm not sure we even have a noise ordinance? But then my neighbors are so far away, I can turn my music up loud and no one would notice, but my dogs (they hate loud anything), the coyotes, the bob cats, skunks, deer.... We already chased away the cattle that use to craze here...
When I lived in town, the police did come one night. I had the juke box and all the speakers on in the house/patio and was rockin away to something. The police told me to hold it down...they could hear my music a mile away. At least I know the juke box and all the speakers in the house worked. I don't get that "wild" anymore. But I have triple the speakers in this house (and I still have the juke box) to blast for miles! I just don't...

You will have to explain to me what a PITA is because I haven't got a clue!
I agree, even my music at loud volumes at silly times, would be unbearable, which is why I don't play it at all hours. I am considerate towards my neighbours. If Impact DID buy this house (which would be wonderful but is never gonna happen) the two on either side could compete with the new ones in the middle.

Well, she's had time to read my letter and it's quiet now..but she's quiet during the day anyway. It's the night-time when we have problems. Hubby said to his Dad on the telephone that if Impact Housing gave us £120,00 (which is what we would need to move somewhere better) he said we'd move "tomorrow." As it is, we're stuck here, next to neighbours who don't give a t*ss really.
Their taste in "music" really is crap as well. I like music, always have done but I don't play it at the silly times they do.

I hope that the advice you have been given about Environmental Agency getting them to stop. In the meantime, I would go to the room furthest away from their side of the building, and shut every door in between. Then I would turn on some kind of noise maker. Something that could be called "white noise". For instance, I have a radio that will play nature sounds. I go to sleep at night with the sound of ocean waves crashing on the beach.

There is a digital radio station called Birdsong and it plays..er..birdsong all day, every day.
I'm not sure if it's around now but it used to be. Unfortunately, our digital radio is downstairs (and it isn't portable) but, since the letter has been delivered, she's been the perfect neighbour and it was a master-stroke of mine sending a copy to Impact Housing as well. I wasn't in the slightest bit abusive so it's not as though Impact can have a go at me for being heavy-handed in my choice of words.

Unfortunately I know EXACTLY what you're going through. My hubby and I have moved a lot and unfortunately have the worst luck with neighbors. Luckily we've always lived in Apartment Complexes so a simple phone call to the office and they take care of the problem. We had one girl though that refused to get the hint and eventually got kicked out. She and her boyfriend were sooo loud. They would wake us up in the middle of the night with their noises coming from the bedroom...it was awful. I wish you luck with the letter! I know what you're going through!

I know what you mean about "noises from the bedroom." There was one tenant a few years ago who decided to have the front bedroom window WIDE OPEN and had - well, you know - with her boyfriend..which is fine but it was SO LOUD and guys were bringing their little kids past the house from the soccer match that had just finished. I'll never forget watching this guy hurriedly walking past with his little boy as he was probably terrified he would ask questions. I mean, it sounded like she was in pain, you know what I'm saying?
Anyway, with this new woman the letter seems to have worked as I did send a copy to Impact Housing as well, threatening legal action lol. That always gets the ball rolling!

Did you get a response from the woman yet? I think you did the right thing as noisy people at all hours of the night can be very frustrating for a lot of people surrounding them.
We returned home from our trip to find that the neighbour across the road has now got a drum set! The good thing is that he is actually not too bad and only plays them for an hour or so when he first gets home from work just after 3pm. His house mates come home after then, so he is quiet after that.

We had a visit from a couple of Impact Housing bods today and it was interesting because the neighbours on the other side of the tenant have complained about the noise as well. This increases the likelihood of the tenant being evicted if she misbehaves on a regular basis for the next 28 days. After that time, Impact will visit everyone concerned again. Since I posted the letter it's miles quieter but there again, it's the weekend where we have problems. I'll keep you posted!

No, I'm not boring because I like loud music myself but not at the time they were playing it, which is illegal in this country anyway. She has an obligation under her tenency agreement to behave herself, if she doesn't, she may be evicted. That's nothing to do with me being boring, it's just a fact.

Loud neighbors can make your life miserable, especially if it is keeping you from getting good sleep. Why does the housing authority not do anything about your complaints?

So inconsiderate that they do this and repetitively. See I love loud music and like to party too, but certainly at 2am - 4 am I do like to be in bed resting without having my ceiling pounding.
I have the same dilemma here and cannot begin to tell you how the landlord and them absolutely do not care. My boyfriend and I had enough we will be moving next summer as it is truly ridiculous.
We have tried on being as amicable as possible but I suppose this has encouraged them to do more. So one day I will no longer be nice and will call the police for disturbance of the peace.
Matter of fact the music upstairs now as we speak at 1:50pm is banging so loud it is pathetic. Worse part is that it is really bad music, which will play though out until after 1am. The headaches this has caused us.
