Do you like it when people feel sorry for you? Why? I don't like it when people feel sorry for me because I have a lot of pride. Are you like me and would rather get some recognition in our strength and perseverance? There are many people who complain and feel the victim so that they can get some pity, are you one of them? Why? Is pitying the same as understanding to you?

I don´t like to be pitied. In fact I hate it. So I stop immediatly any patronizing comment. Fortunatly the people near me are not that kind of people.

I don't like being pitied at all. That's why whenever I have a problem I just keep it to myself, mostly. I share some but most, I just find a way to solve it rather than get pitied upon by others. I don't mind the help, though.

I agree, I always think that the last person to decide is yourself in life..

We have the same attitude. Pity equates understanding? Sometimes they are used synonymously but these two are different. But there is a thin line since these two seems that you are empathizing with another person's story, situation etc. I looked tough outside but I am not inside. My sisters and parents as well as husband knows that I easily get break down but to others, I am a tough steel...

I agree, I don't think pity and understanding are the same either.. understanding is on the same level, where as pity, you are not parallel anymore.

I do not like "pity" but prefer understanding. I live in a very difficult situation caring for my adult son who was injured in a car accident. I don't really want anyone to feel sorry for us, but I appreciate when they understand what we are going through and appreciate all the work!

It does make me feel a bit awkward. I don't like being pitied, because it just makes people look at you in a different light. Like you are something that should be treated as if it is made of glass, really not something that they should tread normally, but rather tread lightly. Understanding is a different, but I will have my problems and that is just something that I need to deal with.

I agree, we are all never the same person at the same time. I think when you are pitied, you are not on the same level as when we are understood.

I think it is a mentality problem. A person with a positive frame of mind who does not care about other people's attitudes.
