Have you ever taught yourself anything/subjects or studied on your own without taking a class or going to school? I'm teaching myself about different cultures of the world and languages right now by checking out books and dvds from the library and checking the internet. I also got myself a few dancing dvds and am trying to learn these steps with the help of my dvds. What about you?

I suppose most of my knowledge was self taught. I have always loved to learn so if I heard a term or was interested in a subject..I would research it. That usually led to researching something else. I have learned to speak Spanish with the help of people I work with too. I am working more on the mechanics of it now.

hi there.
yes, i've done that a couple of times already. actually, i find self-teaching far more effective than having to be taught by another person. mentors could have variety of styles and techniques we couldn't possibly pick up or adapt into. but when you teach yourself, you have your own will and styles on how to easily get things. for me youtube, helps me a lot especially in theoretical stuff at school. they've got almost everything in there. when i didn't get what our professors have taught us in school, i'll be self-teaching when i get home, or at the library. that's it. see you around!

My older brother learned Arabic by himself by reading and learning the letters. I think that learning without having to go to a class or using a program (like Rosetta stone) is very difficult and amazing that, without any help, is very amazing and i think it takes a very large amount of willpower and knowledge.
