What are some good resources for learning Japanese on your own? Paying for a class is not in my budget at this time but I would really love to learn more of this language. I have some books that have been a little helpful but I can learn better if I have audio lessons. Are there any good online resources that are free that I can find to use? Any book recommendations would be appreciated as well. I can usually manage to fit a few books into my budget once a month or so.

Actually Japanese is not that hard to learn to speak. It is difficult to read and write but I can handle the pronunciation of the words. I already know roughly 75 words and about 20 phrases in Japanese. Also I don't understand what you mean by your answer would be NO. I asked for suggestions on resources for learning Japanese, that's not really a yes or no question.

thejapanesepage.com is a great resource - my daughter and I started to learn Japanese from that and well... I lost interest, but she's still going strong. There are several good free podcasts out there - I'd have to go back and check what they were though.

I'll have to pull up my iTunes and check for some of the podcasts. The last one I subscribed to was OK but they wanted to charge people to access the show notes.
