Do You Ever Just Have Too many Projects Going All At Once?

I'm an excellent multi-tasker, but lately I just have too many projects I am trying to do all at once...and more spinning around in my head! I've reserved a space for March 19th at our fair grounds for a monster garage sale. Ever since I reserved it I have in my head all the crafts that I want to have completed before then. I know the more I have made and out for sale the larger chance i have of actually selling things. Just right now I am working on crocheting cotton washcloths. I have a table full of fabric bags I am sewing, with more cut, and more to cut. I have a pile of material I am working through and cutting into strips for my next quilt. I'm even wanting to try my hand at table runners so I have squares cut for my first one of those that some of the strips will be used on. I am wanting to make up a bunch of cross magnets and little girls bracelets. I'm working on filling up one of those extra large cheese ball canisters with dish scrubbies. Man, I wish I could live without sleep LOL Marsha

I am awful about that! I've been that way all my life, and you'd think I would have figured it out by now, but nope... I picked out yarn to make a pair of socks a couple of days ago, and haven't even got the needles out yet. I am finishing making an apron and have plans to make a rug for the bedroom, which I'm just now sort of (on the cheap) redecorating. I have plans to paint the kitchen in the coming month, along with the floor there and then I want to write more, too, because I'll need the money to get the primer, paint and polyurethane for the floor. Sometimes I do think it would be nice to live without sleep!

I have honestly thought of the no sleep thing lately, but I know if my head and my heart that would probably just make me sick. Being sick is no good because what would I get done then? My craft supplies are in my closet, in the corner of my bedroom, in the corner of the kitchen, in the corner of the living room and all around my desk. I am trying now to clear off one of my shelves in hopes of consolidating supplies to the shelf. I know the one shelf isn't enough, but it will at least be a start and then maybe I can see what is where and get to things easier.

I'm lucky in that I have enough room to put all (well, most) of my craft things in one room. I call it an office, but about half of it is storage for crafts. I forgot the pillowcases that I want to finish embroidering...

Break it down, work smarter. Do you have kids that can help? a partner? a friend? And then there is the fact that we must face, "we cant do it all" I have to come to this quite often. it stinks.

I have one child out of 4 left at home, and she is 14 yrs old. I would have bettr luck asking my grandchildren to help me whether it be with keeping up the house or crafting! I checked out a book today that is to be our next reading for home economics. Organizing from the Inside Out for Teens.....I hope we both learn something from it.

I think having too many projects going all at once is my middle name. Since, I always have something working on. I have some sewing projects, crochet project, and I am organizing my craft room.

I'm so excited! Our house loan went through! This means the 3rd bedroom in the house we are buying gets to become my craft room. It will also house our books, and things I have for sale online, but I will have one room to keep it all together in. Finally I won't have to sew at the kitchen table anymore. Marsha

My very first real job was being a multi-tasker. I handled product launches at different stages of development at any time. I used to thrive in that situation. Plus, I could always find time for myself, because I am never at one project at a time. I could always be doing something else, or doing nothing at all, without anybody knowing. But yes, there were also days where I wished I could turn the nights into working hours too. Goodluck with all the things you have brewing!

Thanks! Brewing...that's a good word for it.....that's what all the ideas in my head are doing too. LOL

I see that you were thinking about going to the fair and setting up, but I don't remember hearing anything about it. I hope it went well if you did end up going. I use to help my sister in laws mother out when she had her booth at the fair, it was a way for me to go to the fair for free, and to help out too.

by the fair I meant the Monster Garage Sale that was put on by the local newspaper. Heather E went with me. We shared corner booths and got more space having a corner. It cost $40 for the space....for each of us. We each sold about $70 but for paying out $40 to be there it needed to be a lot more. We were thinking of doing the one coming up Oct. 29 and were going to reserve super early to make sure we got those corner spots again. Then we thought better of it. Last I talked to her we are going to plan on just going and checking out for bargains together when it's here next time. I'm not sure I should even do that! What I like to look for at sales is items I can use in my quilting and other crafting. I think I don't need any more fabric for 3 or 4 years now after the yards sales a couple of weeks ago. LOL Marsha

Marsha I found you LOL. You know I like you have way too many projects going at one time, including my reading. I like to multitask but I find that all too often that just means lots of different things all laying around unfinnished. I guess it is time to dig in and finnish them all one by one while making a list of the what is next to start when the currant ones are all done.

I just don't know which way to go with it....quilts take me weeks to finish so I don't want to just work on just that as far as crafting. I need to always have things to list in my etsy store and such. But I am surrounded right now with too many projects, some of them not even started. I lost my craft room to give the 3 girls a bedroom. Now this corner of the living room is a chaotic mess.

I know how you feel, I always have writing assignments to fill and other writing I want to do, and then there is the book business which takes up most of my mornings and what that doesn't take up driving the kids to school does. Then there is of course house work, and home work, and fixing dinner, and driving kids too and from places. I never seem to get done the things that I want to do. I get all the things I have to do done, but not the things I need to do. Not to mention I have been sick for a couple of months now. Functional sick but still sick, mostly I have a lot of trouble at night coughing and now I have an infection and pain. I am supposed to rest but that is just not possible. I am hoping the new antibiotics I am on will finally knock this out.

Because of the upcoming sale my crafts have been taking precedence over my housework....the house is really suffering for it, and so am I with the anxiety of leaving and having to come home and see the mess. I'm so in hopes that we can find a house soon and that said house will have at least a corner of a room that can be my crafting area!

I know exactly what you mean by too many projects in too little time. I have to deal with a heavy load of coursework, a research project, a website I'm making, a small business I started and am finding time to make a bit of extra money online (want to pay for an app with no money from my pocket, all from my payapl). I feel that having a ton of projects is really nice because I always have something to do. Sadly this can turn on me and I can end up with way to much to do. The main thing that takes up my time is coursework, 12-25 page papers don't just write themselves!! I wish I had more time and could just not sleep, it would really let me do so much more with my time. But sleep is vital and in my opinion sacred so I try to sleep at least 7.5 hours a day

I don't go to school, but I do homeschool. I just have one child left at home now. Many would laugh I'm sure if they watched how I do it. I often sit on the floor with the textbook open and reading to her and at the same time I am ironing or cutting material.

You sound like just about every other crafter out there. Too many projects, too little time. I always have too many projects going on at once. I get bored easily so I put one thing down and pick up something else. Eventually, everything gets done and I don't get bored. I've actually kept my Christmas "stuff" out and will be working on things for next Christmas like cards, gift bags, gift card holders, etc. I like to make these things every year but it seems that something always gets in the way. This year, I got sick right before Christmas so I didn't get everything finished. I'm hoping that, if I just work a little at a time all year long, I should have everything finished that I want finished by Christmas. Of course, the closer it gets to Christmas, more than likely I'll see or thing of new things I want to make and still won't get it all done. For me, it's just the fun of doing it. I enjoy creating. Maybe one day I'll be able to choose one particular thing that I really love making and concentrate on that, something distinctly mine. Nah, on second thought, I doubt I'll ever be able to concentrate on only one thing, or a few things for that matter. Something new is always catching my eye and my imagination. Have fun and I hope you get everything finished that you want finished by March 19th. Just try not to get stressed as the date approaches. I'm sure you'll have more than plenty to sell.

Hiya marsha, Can do but I try to do only one or two at a time. They are not projects like you are doing with handcrafts and all that kind of thing. It´s very hard for me to stick to one and say that´s it I just doing this one as I can get bored with it if I don´t care much for doing it. I wish you all the luck with those amazing amount of things you have got going there. You need lot´s of sleep to recover after so much work. Man I wish I could do those things like you, Jill and giftsandbags can do. You make it sound so easy. Take care now and have fun.

I always find myself in the situation of having too many things going on a once. I far too often see things and think, wow that is really good, I'd like to try. I then get all the bits together, have a really good go and then find something else takes my interest. i must say it drives my other half mad. My sister is a bit of a late crafter, she has only just started to show an interest. I think I have finally rubbed off on her. I have found that if there is an idea she would like to try, more often than not, I have the things she will need. I just can't throw any of my crafty bits away.

LOL, at some point we do have to come up for air and take a step back for that much needed break. However, I find that if do that, I would be yet further behind so I am like you at all times wishing the day had more then the 24 hours we are given. I do hope you are getting caught up by now and if not that you have some accomplished a great deal of the work.

well, we are pretty close to the same age LOL I'm sure Steve is so sick and tired of looking at this messy living room. I used to keep it pretty confined to just under my desk....one current project I was working on....but now its under my desk, on my desk, on the floor on both sides of me....in the middle of the room, in the corner of the room.....living room that is. Our living room is not that large and doubles as my teens bedroom as well, so just imagine. Marsha

You sound just like me--and there are days I go without (much) sleep to finish a crafting or writing project! But it catches up with me in the end, and then I end up being less productive all the way around--and cranky, too. Not only do I wish I had more free time to finish all this stuff; I wish I had a separate house to store it in and escape to when I need some uninterrupted time to complete something. One can dream, right? Good luck with your projects--and try to grab some sleep, too.

I do this sometimes too. I want to try one thing, and I have this other thing to make for a gift, and then I should make this...yeah, I could end up with a roomful of half done projects if I'm not careful.

I have a lot of projects going on at work and my team is really short staffed, they just keep piling more on us and we just can't get some of it done because there are just so many balls in the air all the time and we can't seem to get ahead. I pretty much put everything off at home. Thank goodness for my wife as she picks up a lot of the slack and takes care of everything at home including the home and the kids and what ever she can't take care of kind of sits and waits for me to get to. I just work so many hours these days, I pretty much just come home and eat dinner with the wife and kids and watch maybe one TV show with my wife, or with my kids or with all of them and then I fall asleep. I have even worked a lot of weekends lately as well. I am just taking a quick lunch break to be on here right now, but I will go back to the grind in a few minutes.

Do I ever! Of course, you probably already know that about me, ha! I can't seem to turn off the ideas. Marsha, do you really think we'd get it all done even if we could do without sleep? I doubt it.
