Has anyone been to Nicaragua or is living there?
I learned that the capital of Nicaragua is Managua and the name of the country comes from the indigenous people "Nicarao". They are descendants of the Aztecs and Mayans. It is the largest country on the Central American isthmus. They were colonized by the Spanish until 1821. There is a Cathedral in the city of Leon which was actually supposed to be built for the city of Lima in Peru, but the blueprints were mixed and so the cathedrals have been misplaced. They also have had a few civil wars and are building themselves back up.

HiLore,
I have never been at Nicaragua but the azteccs never went so far south. The nicaragua natives do not seem to be mayan either. There were (and still are) lots of different tribes living in central america. I went to Kunayala, in Panama, in 2009 and the kunas still use their own language and culture. It is awesome.
From what I read about nicaraguans, there is a mixture of bloods although the first natives were the nicarao.

In the book I read, it said that the descendants who are mixed of Aztec and Mayans reached the western area, but no mention of the pure Aztecs nor Mayans reaching there. That's cool, you got to visit Panama and meet the people there! I will soon be reading about Panama as well.

I have read many books about the aztecs and it seems they never reached that far south except maybe for trading reasons with other people. It is more possible that Mayans were there because there are ruins of theie awesome temples in all Central America.

I havent yet been to Nicaragua but ii is on my travel wish list for the future. If I go there I will visit Leon and Granada to see the beautiful old buildings. I shall have an adventure on a journey from Managua to the coast where I will take a ferry to the Corn Islands. Little Corn Island sounds like a lovely and ralaxing place to visit. I have been to Central America and really liked it there. Right now I am on my latest trip.
