Reportedly, newly elected Tea Party backed Rand Paul proposes to slash (among other things) the Homeland Security budget by almost 50%.
Question: where in the world is Liz Cheney and/or former VP Cheney on their constant insistance on national security?

May be if they concentrated on securing the homeland instead of going after internet sites that may have sold a CD that may have violated the copyright laws, while the southern border is too dangerous to allow US Citizens to visit the park land there I could see a reason to fund them. http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/article/211832/courts_shut_down_82_sites_for_alleged_copyright_violations.html
Maybe they should do targeted checks of airline passengers rather than intensive checks of little old men and women? At one time Atlanta Airport was the major hub for US soldiers returning from Iraq. Service men and women were warned that they should not place valuables in their checked luggage because of the theft. The airlines responded by saying that ther the luggage was under video surveillance from the time TSA handed it over until it was loaded on the plane and from the time it was unloaded and returned to the owners. The Public TSA Union refused to have the luggage under video surveillance when it was in their possession. Are they doing the best job they could or are they just causing unnecessary delays. Have they caught any terrorists?

Okay laglen!!
So what of his very vociferous national security spokesperson, daughter Liz?? After all that bashing of President Obama ... all that FOX noise looping NATIONAL SECURITY IS A MUST ... bashing the president for his "misunderstandings" of national security matters!!
I mean, this department was established as a direct response to 9/11, an Act of 2002 .. which boasts the motto: "Preserving our Freedom, Protecting America"!
Paul says to slash its budget by half!! What? The Homeland Security Dept. includes U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Federal Emergency Management Agency, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement ... and, Transportation Security!!
Please say to me how Rep. Paul, or anybody else expects our president, our nation to be at its best on national security matters??
Where is the right's outrage ... for Rep. Paul to suggest completely underfunding the Dept. of Homeland Security and there be no immediate outrage expressed seems more than suspect to me.

I don't think anything is necessary in Rand Paul's eyes except for his seat in the Senate! I mean, it seems like he's all for cutting, repealing and deregulating everything. This isn't to say there aren't cuts to be made, but I don't think Paul has any idea what he's doing there.
Anyway, you raise a good point, Gladys, where are ALL of the Republicans regarding Paul's proposal? I understand D1ck Cheney's health concerns - and I do wish him the best, by the way - but his daughter is supposed to be running a PAC dedicated to "keeping America safe" and in her mind, that means continuing all of the Bush era programs so I'm truly surprised she hasn't been showing up all over the Sunday morning talk shows and Fox News to put in her two cents.

Absolutely Annie!! For anyone to suggest that I'm somehow unsympathic to former VP's health issues is just an attempt to avoid the obvious, the real question ... where are republicans on this national security issue???
Where is former VP's accepted main stream media spokesperson Liz Cheney, etals, with all of hertheir advice to our President on national security issues ... surely, this slash and burn approach by Rand Paul, a republican has to be outlandish in her world!!

I'd take it a step further and say we should just abolish the Department of Fatherland Security altogether. It has done nothing but create a police state bureaucracy that has accomplished nothing it was created to accomplish....well, almost nothing, Bush did manage to accomplish more of a police state with it...
I fail to see what the Cheneys have to do with this though.

"was all over the place dictating to President Obama about Homeland security and so was her father."
Of course, it's what I'd expect power drunk statists to do. Bush and Cheney were statists...Obama, is a statist....the department of homeland security, is the creation of statists.
*shrug*

And with that xfahctor, would you say that with it's creation, Americans are safer than before 9/11, that we "feel" safer than before 9/11 ... hey, would you dare say, that if President Obama dismantled the entire department republican heads would not explode??

xfahctor ... to your last line ... hey, I wondered the same as Liz was all over the place dictating to President Obama about Homeland security and so was her father. I understand the fact the former VP Cheney is not well, however, I've heard nothing from "any" republican on slashing that Dept.'s budget almost 50% ... I mean, would 15-20% be a more realistic, reasonable cut! Republicans were all about another terrorist attack ... better airport securities, please examine my food for toxins modes ... on and on! What was all that national security banter for ... vote trolling sessions?

Everything that can be slashed, should be. Why should Cheney be committing on this? He's got his own problems to tend to. No one actually listens to Liz Cheney anyway. She makes an appearance every now and then but really has no impact one way or the other. Her total influence is at zero. I don't even see why you brought up it.
But they could save a lot of money if they cut Napoliano's salary. That's a 50% savings without even trying.

I think you answered your own question by the inclusion of the word "former". Cheney is the former Vice President, not the current one. He can't insist on anything, he can do just what you or I could do - voice our support or disapproval and if our representatives don't listen to us, vote them out and vote new reps in.
Basically, your first sentence should lead to a discussion of how you feel about this measure, or ask how other mylotters feel about it. The second sentence or rather, question, doesn't lead to much discussion because who can answer for another?
I can't possibly tell you how either Liz or D1ck Cheney feel about it.
Personally, I think at least 50% ought to be cut, but only if they can prove the remaining 50% is at all effective. If not, cut that too. The entire $8 Billion for the TSA needs to be cut and all those glorified mall cops relieved of duty.
