Typo errors

Whenever I type a discussion, I always end up having typos, before I wanted mylot to have an edit button because sometimes typos are embarrassing and sometimes typos changes the meaning of your statement. But Mylot have no interest of giving that option so I adapted to it. Before I was very ashamed of typos because I have this perception people will think I cant spell or I'm bad at English. Now I dont care. As long as people understand what i say I should not be conscious of those typo errors. Once I have the copy paste privilege again though I will grammar check my work at Microsoft word. The good thing about Mylot people dont care about spelling and grammar, It doesn't matter! What matter is that people understand what you say and they understand you. There are people with bad English who can make better discussions than native English speakers. people should not be afraid if they have spelling errors on their discussion. What matter is the content. Dont be afraid if your English is not that good, As long as people understand it. Its fine.

Absolutely! I have great admiration for those Lotters who come here and try their very best to particpate here, even though their knowledge of English is limited. I would not have the courage to go and post on a site other than one in my own language. I have seen many start here and then over time they improve - while learning and earning too! Many Lotters will lend them a hand and draw them into the fun and hats off to them!

Its also good if you see person with typo error dont call them out because it will really discourage them to post and we wanted mylot to grow as a community. regular forums have those so called Grammar Nazi, those people are so obsessed with Grammar that they attack people with typos and In mylot those jerks wont be tolerated.

I advice them not to use text style ('u' instead of 'you') but I have never ever corrected grammar mistakes. As for typos, I make many of my own so how could I possibly scold others? The guidelines tell us that everyone is welcome here, regardless of their knowledge of English and it is certainly not a deterrant to having fun!

I think there is nothing really wrong with my English, You can say its not the best English but its my 3rd language. The ability to speak 3 languages is something to be proud of. Its my typing skills that is the problem. I'm still not the best typist. I think I wont sound like I was bad in English if I can type better. I admit I still look at the keyboard when I was typing.

I also believe their should be an editing button. I hate when I make a small typo and just wish I could fix it somehow. Although you are again right if people can understand your point then it all works out just fine.

The most dangerous Typo error though is the "can" and "can't" Ig you accidentally forget the T in Can't things will mean much more different. That is the typo I always wanted to avoid.

I hate it when I see the error after I have already hit post it and when I leave off the last letter as sometimes that really changes the meaning from what I wanted. lol we need another edit button for sure or the one where I had two s's coming together to form the forbidden a.ss and get this rebuke from mylot admins saying I must reword my discussion as I used a forbiden word. then I see the error no space between a word ending in s and the next one starting in s so my error made mylot unhappy.

Yeah that's a particular typo I like to avoid myself does just completely change a sentence and can really affect your discussion if your suggesting the complete opposite in meaning to either can or can't when you manage to misspell it.

I replier to many discussion who happened have alot of wrong typos but I don't care about it as long as I can understand what he/she mean and what his/her discussions is all about. Some of my old friends here did alot of typo error but it doesn't matter. I didn't mention also to my post that the poster made a wrong typo. I response it according to the discussions. Nobody is perfect and somtimes we can commit some wrong because of the speed of typing. I did also so many many wrong typos before when I was newbie here but now I think it's less compared before because most of the time I will re-read my post. I only made mistakes on the title of my discussions because they are not covered by the dictionary.

If My typo error will kinda change the meaning of what i talk about, I make an update post to correct my mistake so the person reading my statement wont be confused, because there are many times typo errors makes what i say sound different. In a forum somewhere a misunderstanding and fight started because of a typo error.

I try to avoid mistakes, but the content is the most important thing. I don't care if other members make mistakes as long as I am able to understand the content. I once started a discussion about grammar and I misspelled the word "grammar" in the headline! I guess it wasn't the best way to introduce the topic I always read my discussions, responses and comments before I submit them, but I still make typos sometimes. One time I made a mistake in my reponse and I added a comment in order to correct it or clarify my opinion and after I submitted it I discovered that I had made a mistake in the correction. On days like that I wish I were able to edit my posts

Post edit though is something admins will never give is so yeah we must have to be careful with what we type because sometimes typo error make us look dumb in English. Once I can copy paste again, I want to do some grammar checkin. I'm tired of making typos but I cant avoid them.

MyLot does have a Edit option. It's called preview response and it's found at the bottom of the textarea where you type your message. You can see how your post will appear and select edit to correct or submit if you are satisfied with it.

sometimes though when I realize I have a typo its too late and the damage is done but now I dont care anymore. I dont care if people think my English is bad or I cant spell. Nobody is perfect as Christine O Donelle say.

I would have to admit that at first I was just like you, and I'm a confessed OCD, I really don't mind it when other people do grammatical errors or typo mistakes but I find it so hard to accept my own mistakes, but thankfully myLot helped me realize that in having discussions it's not necessary to have the perfect words and grammar as long as your point is clear and the people who read your post understands you...

I cant wait to have copy paste feature in this account of mine, I deleted my own account making me lose the gift of cutting and pasting. I want to use Microsoft word and have the ability to cut and paste for better grammar and spelling check again.

hi albertWhisker you are so ri ght and I could not have put it 'better . I really admire our new mylotters who are having English as a second language as I see them start out sort of stumbling and end up writing better English than I a born English speaker can write. we here as a rule just help each other and do not mock our friends who are trying to learn English as its a hard language to learn with all its words meanind different things and our idioms and slang uses. I really disconcerted an Indian friend when I talked about how much I enjoyed good hot dogs with mustard and catsup on them. He rebuked me for eating dog meat. I was stunned. I immdiately comment back no no it is not dog meat but beef weiners or sausages as we love dogs and alot of us have dogs as pets. We would never kill a dog and eat it. He replied that he was so glad as he had thought I was a nice lady. lol.

Now it reminds me of a coemployee of mine who attacked at client on phone for praising her. basically the client told her thank you for helping me, Your so cool, sour such a badass. She didnt know the term badass is a praise. she thought the client said she is bad and she is a term for donkey that is also a term for rectum that starts with letter A, She didnt know being badass is a cool thing. She cursed the client and she cried " I am not a bad person and I am not an a$$. and she cursed him with the f word. she got fired.

Mistakes is inevitable, but we should never take it for granted for it might get us used to it. Yes, here in mylot, it is depends on you but as you said, people might think you as not that good in spelling or grammar, though as reader, we can let it pass for as long as we can understand what ideas you want to convey based on your whole topic. I sometimes got into such situations, if it happens in just a single word and does not effect the message that much, it would be fine. But if I think it would effect the thought of the message and unavoidably submitted it, I amended it abruptly by sending a follow up statement just to correct it as well as the idea for I know, if someone got me misunderstood, it will affect our reputation here.

sorry for the late response, i passed out yesterday, I got so tired at work and I slept like no tomorrow. I do admit I was very conscious about my grammar because in my Job I speak English for 10 hours and I'm also a freelance writer so having a bad grammar is like a mistake that makes me mad of my self but yeah if I have a typo error that makes me panic a bit if people may not understand it so I post a correction right away but if the typo wont change the meaning of my statement I will just move on.

typo error - it happens most of the time
Hello whisker, You don't have to be to critical of yourself since not every here is addicted with the grammar, except for one that i know though she's not enforcing it that much. I think mylotters are very careful now in criticizing the members post. Because the last time some one criticizes a person from speaking english, she received a barrage number of counter arguments that really hurt her rating and her reputation. of course, i know she was trying to make a point some people misinterpret it. you're right, as long as people understand it.have a nice day/.

There was a time I forget to type the word not, on my sentence, No grammar error criticism happened but the direction of the discussion didn't happened the way i wanted it to happen because I forgot to type a single word. I want to discuss that again and change the wordings someday since I didn't get the result I wanted because of a single typo.

Hello CaptAlbertWhisker, I have stopped worrying about typos since I started to use Mozilla Firefox. It performs spell checking while I type, so the only problem that persists might be the grammar. I know people understand what I say even if I make some mistakes, but, to make me feel better, I'd like not to make any mistake. If you think your typing needs an assistant, go for this browser. I was also advised to use it a few months ago, but I had too much confidence in my Internet Explorer. Now I decided to give it a try and I don't regret a minute that I gave up on IE for Mozilla.

I never used Internet explorer anymore I felt unsecure with my internet surfing because viruses can push through better on that browser. I was always in a hurry thats why typos always occur with me but now I started to care less about them. I hope i can copy paste again. I use chrome for mylot. There are typos though that grammar check cant fix, like forgetting to type a word in a sentence.

Hi, CaptAlbertWhisker! We could correct our errors if we use the preview option as one myLotter noticed above. But I think the problem is that most of us are always in a hurry and we don't use it. As english is not my mother language I try to check some expressions in the search. Many times I swap letters and I see this after I have hit the "submit" button. I hate these situations. But yes, myLot is a unique place to meet people from so many countries and make a free communication. I feel so comfortable here. Happy myLotting!

Just take things slowly, Once you feel comfortable you should type longer because it will help you do well in this site more, not only it will improve your English, It will increase your earnings.

i don't usually end up having typos when i'm using my computer. but on my itouch....always i will have typos! it's so annoying! i also want mylot to have the edit feature because sometimes my itouch makes words that aren't even close to what i was going to say and it's hard to figure it out. but for spelling and grammar mistakes mylotters understand that english is not everybody's first language. it even says in the guidelines please be respectful, don't criticize people for their english because english may not be their first language.

That makes me love mylot because in other messageboards there were Grammar Nazis. sometimes I can get away with my typos but I really hate it when i have typos specially if they ruin my statement. I can deal with spelling errors but when my mistake changes what I talk about it confuses the people and not get the topic.I have no problems with speaking English, i have problems with Typing, not only English but all languages.

Hi, I also make grammatical and spelling mistakes while typing. I am not expert in English. In the beginning I am also ashamed of spelling mistake done by me. But while working on mylot we don't have to bother about spelling mistakes. We just have to write our discussions in understandable English.

the type of typos I hate are the ones where the whole meaning of my statement is changed because I missed a letter or accidentally added a letter, Lets say I want to say "I cant" but I typed I can instead.

I hate typos though but its hard to avoid them. No matter hard how we try. we just dont have the 100% focus all the time. Until now I still have typo errors but I just deal with it.
