Has anyone been to Yemen? I read about Yemen and I was most fascinated by the island of Socotra. I've actually seen a documentary on this island and how mystical and strange it is. There are a lot of species that only exist here. The people who live here speak a language called Soqotri, which is different from the Arabic language of the mainland. The island is attracting a lot of tourism.

Presently, the mainland Yemen is having protests. In the past Yemen was split into two, North and South. The North was ruled by the Ottoman Turks and the South by the British, until eventually they both became independent and unified in 1990. It is one of the poorest Arab nations and coffee was once the most important exports.
