How do you handle office politics?

It's been six months since I started working for a big multinational corporation and I am still stressed out with the working environment. Everything they have told me before I started working for them was true, it's a dog-eat-dog world within the confines of this company. My pacifist nature isn't really helping that much either. I don't want to "play the game", so to speak, but I think I might start rethinking my strategy now in order to survive. How should I handle myself in an aggressive working environment where people step on each others' toes as if it's the norm? I am so confused. HELP!

You have pretty much described the world now days. I would think that you would either need to change your pacifist nature and be different or go find a job with a better environment. I would think that if you have such a pacifist attitude then I would wonder how you found the job in the first place. You must have some instinctive traits. Perhaps you should think about that.

take a little more time to study what's happening around you, if after some time you cant take then you can decide what to do. but who knows in your own little way you mak e a difference in their lives. Instead of you learning from them, let them learn from you what you think is right and lawful in the office ambiance. good luck

Well..your in a tough one. I think that staying out of the politics can help you to stand out to your superiors. I know that's easier said than done but there are other measures to consider too. Covering your tail. You want to do this and then let other people seem like the dummies when they challenge it. Now I don't know your position so it's hard for me to detail that answer but...don't let anyone push you around if you know you are right. Do your job to the best of your abilities and if they don't want to be team players....let it be known.
