The worlds supply of chocolate could run out by 2014. I thought you guys should know so you can stock up. Take into account women, teenagers, children, grandchildren. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1351066/Will-chocolate-drought-World-s-supply-sustainable-cocoa-run-2014.html This is definitely the time to panic.

You're not quite reading the story right: it's sustainable chocolate supplies that are threatened, not chocolate overall. Wow... the supply of fair trade chocolate is threatened because war is making people leave the regions that make fair trade chocolate, and the Daily Mail blames fair trade instead of the war.

I'm not much of a chocolate eater, so I don't think I'll panic. But I know a lot of people who do eat chocolate, like my Mom, and I'll let her know she needs to stock up. When I see the prices of a Snickers bar or other chocolate bar, I think they're outrageous. I wonder what you'll be paying next year. $2 for a Snickers? I wonder if there's another place that could grow cocoa beans? If so, I'd be planting, training, etc. like crazy right now. What a great opportunity for someone else... And of course, I'm sorry for the people of the Ivory Coast...

I warned my Mom yesterday when we were grocery shopping (before the big storm that's suppose to hit today and tomorrow). She bought two bags of Hersey's Kisses! That ought to last her a couple of years

Oh good lord. People will go wild. There will be break and enters and pilferers every where trying to get their hands on some dairy milk chocolate! It is truly addictive and people are going to do whatever they can to get their fix. I guess they still have chocolate 'flavouring' so if people are desperate for their fix they can just go get a chocolate milkshake from a takeaway joint. I wonder if depleted cholcoate stores is worthy of a war on 'terrorism'?

I think all chocolate lovers should go to the Ivory Coast and engage those who are terrorizing the cocoa growers.

What? How is that even possible? I mean, it's a PLANT! Why can't we just grow more?! I'm afraid to read your linked article; it might make it true, & that would be unbearable. How are we supposed to face a broken America with no chocolate?!? Unthinkable! Well, it seems it's not universal, thank goodness! LOL! If it were, I know lots of women who'd rather commit hiri kiri (sp?) than live in a chocolate-less world! The chocolate supply for the world is not going to run out. This Daily Mail piece is referencing only one chocolate in one part of the world. Quality chocolate comes from more than just one place. It is not time to hit the panic button. Also, conditions along the Ivory Coast could change in the coming years.

It is? EEEEEEKS!! So, it is safe to eat the chocolate I bought today while waiting for the sky to fall? I cannot imagine the chocolate being crushed by the sky. It hurts to think about it. But if I eat all the chocolate and the sky doesn't fall just yet, then what?

Free trade chocolate will run out; not all chocolate or even most chocolate. However, this will push the price of chocolate so high, that for most budgets it might as well be gone forever... I' stocking up. But please, don't everyone do it, because if you do the price will go that much higher that much faster!

well, they seem to be only talking about "fair trade" chocolate, so I guess the unfair trade will still have the good stuff!

I am so surprised with this news and it seems the problems involves politics, and land problems that is why cocoa stocks are running out. Well I am sure there are still other good places where they can still plant cocoa.

MY GOSH! Thanks for the warning. From now on all my grocery money will go to buy chocolate for the impending doom that will be upon us in just 3 years! Now I wish I had not given away the boxed chocolates and hot chocolate to friends for Christmas. I wonder if they still have any left? Do you think it would be rude to ask for it back?
