As I understand that in olden days religion played a very important role in the lives of human beings in the absence of scientifif developemts in communication and transport.Because of scientic inventions the world has become smaller.Unlike in olden times people have no time to enquire about the religion of stangers whom they come across in their daily life. They are more worried about making money and some in making their lives more comfortable. In this race people are not much bothered about the religion.I am not talking about any particular religion or people. As men and women are more concerned about their lives and material comforts now a days what is the role of religion for modern living.. .

From what you have observed, it sounds like this prediction of the Bible has come true. 2 Timothy 3:1-5 (New International Version, ©2010) 1 But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people. A good description of people today wouldn't you say?

True, the weather has changed and in many places for the worse. But a lot is due to our lifestyle where we care little for the environment. Now we are getting back the consequences of our selfish way of life. It is time for God to step in and bring about major changes in society and the earth. A new world is in the horizon. 2 Peter 3:13 (New International Version, ©2010) But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.

Great post!! And let's not forget the changing of the seasons...spring is short live, and for the past two years, we've gone from winter directly into summer, back into winter again. Spring is short lived and so is the Fall. Not to mention, places that are historically warm/hot year round, for the past couple of years, these places are getting hit with major snow and cold temperatures. Even Mexico and the Middle East has been hit with snow in recent times. I've also been reading about how animals all over the globe are just dying...by the hundreds! Something is going on!

To add to this...what about the natural catastrophes that have happened quite frequently, tsunamis, major earthquakes, devastating mudslides, increased hurricanes...wouldn't surprise me if New York or Los Angeles got hit with a major tornado...that would be disastrous!

In the light of religious hatred prevalent in all parts of the world it looks that we can all live happily without barriers of religions. What we need to day is good understanding of human nature and universal love of mankind.Without that what is the use of religion. The number of fanatics is growing more and more day by day.I am afraid that religious hatred may one day result in total annihilation of mankind..

Let us hope for the best, all these imaginary things exist in this world because of lack of knowledge and awareness. We are not aware of truth and we ignore it in our daily life that is causing such imaginary things to prevail in our life. Hopefully, next generation will be taught a little bit more truth. Our education system is corrupt and that is causing corruption in all the other areas of our society. So many times, I have mentioned it on mylot, I will do it once again. "They say, we built pyramids first and then it took 1000 years for us to invent wheel" Does it make any sense? There are n number of such things in front of our eyes but we are just ignoring them.. Our human race is far-far away from the truth, no matter how hard you try, if religion exists, general people will never understand or even try to understand the truth and that might cause the end of mankind on this earth.

The earth will exist forever and religion( a way to worship God and a way to live) will also exist forever. What must go is religion that teaches lies, ignorance and hatred. These things will eventually go. It is inevitable!

Considering that Organized Religion has been around for almost 2000 years it has done very little to make our world a better place. Without science we would still be in the Stone Age. Religion is used as a Scam to make, and collect money, which explains why Christianity is the number one, Richest, most Powerful, Business in the World today.

In every religion there is exploitation in the name of religion. We have been following the tenets of religion for ages but the hatred has not vanished but on the other hand it has increased. We are not living in isolation now a days. There is so much interaction among people belonging to vrious religions any many aspects of life except religion. So it looks that without religion we could live a happier life...

This is all about check and balance you see. Without ignoring the other aspects of religion, it has firmly established itself as a counterweight to materialism. Where materialism brings lust and desire, religion promotes sacrifice and abstinence. When materialism provokes you to chase your goal, religion asks you to stay calm. Materialism gives you pleasure whereas religion brings you peace. When you are all stressed out by your material quest, religion will bring to you the lost joy. Each one has its significance. Religion can't give you all the material pleasure whereas materialism fails to grant you heavenly joy. I would say they are just complement to each other. If someone knows how and where to use which of them, he can be practically invincible. Materialism is the trend of modern world. The stronger it will be the more we will need the religion in order to counterbalance it's effect. Where one of them fails we will resort to the other. An integrated person will know when to be practical and when to be philosophical. We should rather use a perfect combination of both materialism and religion in modern world.

Excellant. You have correctly explained the role of religion in the context of materialistic achievement. As you have rightly said materalistic achievement gives pleasure where as religion gives peace. But how many people are using religion for getting peace. As we see religion is being used for explaotation by a few.Sometimes it is breeding hatred and violence. In this view of the matter I feel that we can all live in happiness if there were to be no religion..

i don't think religions are important but that they are separating people, there are even crazy religions that don't allow people to marry someone who has other beliefs I mean what hell is that? where's the love, compassion and understanding that religion should be about? it's more like rituals and let's be clear, rituals even satanists do. i believe in God and in faith, the rest is not important. to become a better person, to open the heart to help even who we don't know and didn't even had to help

As you rightly say that we should all live as human beings with love and respect to each other and not as religious begots. If we loose the basic concepts of love and compassion and only stick to the religion we belong to we are no better than animals. As we all know that no religion preaches hatred.God has not created any religion but it is only the creation of human beings which no body understands in the right spirit. We can all live without religion but we cannot live without love and kindness to each other...

you can say its not necessary anymore but in time of catastrophe people always called their gods in each religion but for now human race are focus on developing things any related to science. they say that science is the counterfeit of religion which most scientist say that god don't exist so some of the religion is this day have forgotten to practice even then youth don't participate in some occasions base on their religions.

What I mean to say is that in the context of present unrest and violence based on religion whether religion is helping us to live peacefully. We can pray God who has created us all.Religion is not necessary for worshipping God.In every religion we pray God.As the religion is causing us unhappiness on many occasion throughout the world my doubt is whether is it necessary for us to have a religion for our survival...

People still need something to bind themselves to a community with, actually more now than they did before. People travel and move far from their "roots" today. They no longer stay close to family and neighborhoods where they grew up. A religious group can provide the stability that a family used to provide.

All of us are now living broad based life.Parents live in one country and children live in another country and that is the order of the day.No doubt religion binds us whever we may be.But religious tolerance is lacking in human beings. The need to be more understanding of the basic principles of any religion is more in the order of the day.No religion advocates hatred. For peaceful living mutual understanding is more necessary than folloowing the religion which ever religion it may be..
