my lotters hello,
depending on where you live, the disaster could be a flood, fire, sickness, hurricane, or earthquake.
we ought to have disaster preparedness plan and series of conducted emergency drills like where to go what to pick up first, where to run.. etc. it is very important so that when a disaster occurs, your family will have supplies and procedures in place in the event help is not readily available.
planning ahead may save your life when disaster strikes.[b]
what do you do when you know that there will be a typhoon of great magnitude that will come? what is it that you make sure that is with you when it reaches you?]

Nothing beats being prepared for any eventuality and educating people in your household how to exactly react on a given situation. If it is fire, I teach my family where we will all escape, we keep 2 large fire extinguishers and 2 trouble led lights that opens when power goes out, I also make it a habit to sleep near my led flashlight and swiss army knife.
Now your question about typhoon which is the most common in the country, we all sleep together in the strongest part of the house, see that we have enough emergency and communication power, also there is always reserve water, food and the medicine cabinet is always stacked, I also update my knowledge of First Aide from time to time, yes the Bible is also handy in case all preparations fail.

hi louievill,
our present situation in the world, as one can see from the news, there is always a natural disaster from one place and then somewhere else.
it just cannot be avoided. and when it strikes, it is always good to be ready.
thank you so much. i do believe that prayers has its own powers over calamities.

@khalida, no it's not just for emotional support, you see when you gather everyone in the strongest part of the house, that means the place farthest from a tree or electrical post that could fall of, you might also want to consider going into a room with the least number of windows or no windows at all that might get hit by flying objects, the same way people on tornado countries retreat to the cellar or the basement. Keeping family members together in a typhoon ensures that you can attend to each other better and help assuring the children everything is k okay, so it's not just for emotional support although that is included but a good practice to use common sense and judgement when in an emergency situation

I haven't been in a typhoon, but I've prepared for hurricanes. I lived in Louisiana when Katrina and Rita hit. I do think a plan is important. Actually I think we should keep a preparedness kit equipped and ready at all times. You never know when you may have trouble.

If we knew when disaster was coming, we could do something about it. then it would no longer be a disaster. Since we can't know when they are coming, the best we can do is take every precaution to be ready for unknown disasters. the better prepared we can be, the better our chances for survival are.@tigeraunt (6326)

hi sender,
there are instruments that can warn us that something is coming but sometimes no matter how much we know about it, still we dont feel the magnitude of the damage the disaster would cause our homes and neighborhood unless it is there.
so everyone should always be prepared .. right! for better chances of survival.
have a nice day.

OMG, I hate to think about this but all the signs and warnings are here. I think there is going to be something really bad that will happen (I hope not, Lord, please). It is so scary how abrupt weather changes can put us in helpless situations. I wonder what we can do when a huge disaster comes. I hope it does not happen.

hi cutie,
we really need to be very optimistic that it would not come. but its like a thief you know. it comes when you are not ready. hence one should know what to stock in the pantry, what things should be ready in case there is a total blackout and faith that it does not end everything then and there.
have a nice day.

hi khalida,
id say that where i live, i am very lucky because we have never experienced a typhoon. we get earthquakes often which is scary too.
i have been taught on what to do in case of a really big quake, but i just do not know if i can do what should be done. all i want if ever, God forbid, is to be able to remain calm as much as possible. that way, i would be able to think much better on what steps to do.
thank you for your response.

the philippines. it is sitting in what is called the ring of fire and all other countries who are within that ring gets occasional earthquake. so far, the highest intensity that i have experienced is 6. i hope i dont get much higher than that. it is very very scary especially when i am in a high rise building because i can really feel the swaying.
i am sorry. i used the word often. well the fact that it is there often does not really mean that we feel it all the time.

I happen to come from Nigeria ( West Africa ) and I am happy for the weather condition in my country. We have never had very serious natural disasters such as earthquake, typhoon, hurricane etc. However, my place have had some heavy rainfall which make walking and driving very difficult. But it is not as serious as the disaster in some countries of the world that we often hear on CNN, BBC, Skynews etc,
Whenever, it rains, everybody try to remain indoors or in their cars. There are times when the weather is very hot and most people have to put on an airconditioners either in their cars or in their private homes or offices.
However,it is in recognition of the effect of natural disaster that made the government in my country to set up a government agency called NEMA ( National Emergency Management Agency ) This body is charged with assisting community and people who suffer from natural and human made disaster.
I also think the best way to tackle some of this unexpected situation is for one to plan ahead. Get the right education on how to handle safety at the workplace, home and on other public centers. But unfortunately most people are not conscious of the need to abide by safety and they end up falling victims to distance. Good education is the key to avoiding disasters.

While visiting South Korea I felt the inland results of a Typhoon. It caused massive flooding and heavy rains inland. To prepare for one I think would be a two step process. One protect yourself from the wind and flying debris. Second be prepared to flee to a place of safety away from rivers and low lying places that might flood.
One of the things I have done to prepare for disaster is to compile a list of Medicines and have emailed it to myself and to keep a copy on a flash drive that I can share with a pharmacist if I lose my medicines. I am also in the process of backing up my computer off site so I do not lose my records.

The natural disaster that we have to worry about in our area is either fire or it is an earthquake. Thankfully, neither of these have been things that I have had to deal with in my life. However, fire is the thing that is bothering me the most right now is fire because two of one of my friend's children perished in a home fire about two months ago. That really bothers me because I have children that are the same age.

Two years back when the earthquake hit Italy, I've heard from the surviving members that they were warned but they did not care for and were sleeping without worries and thus perished. All suffer but very few take action and rare people take pre-caution. One has to take care wisely of his global safety. Yes you never know. better to heed the alarming sound specially in these coming years.

There is nothing better than to be prepared for an emergency. In our household I have trained my family to do what is best if ever such a disaster would come. We always have a cabinet stacked with canned goods and extra mineral water containers. I have a also several flash lights and matches prepared if ever electricity would be cut. It is also very advisable to live in a sturdy house where there is no flood.
