hi I was looking around my room, a pig, a praying rabbit, elephant, bears, cat, another cat, Garfield, two dogs, another catr a praying bunny, a duck, a snail and well more. I am talking beanie babies by the armful. Do any of you who are collectors ever feel a bit overcome by all you have collected? Sadly it does not stop me from wanting to add more. I really upset one of the housekeeping staff by putting some of them astraddle the head board of my bed. so now I have them scattered out on top of my bureau so they need not scowl at me.My roommate also likes them and thinks my collection is okay so no problem there. Your take please.

It's your home, your bed, your money, your life, it's what you like to collect. What do they collect for "their" home? Hummmmm? I bet they collect something!!!! It's what you wqant and none of their business. You pay them for a job not their oppinion. Go buy some more beanies....

I do not understand why they would give you a bad time for having the babies on your headboard. I had an adult disabled client whose dad built a floor to ceiling post with hooks all around all four sides, every few inches and she has it covered with beanies.

That's a really good idea. I think they don't like having ti deal with them if they have to make the bed and so forth. If she had a cabinet to put them in so she could admire them behind glass that would be nice too.

hi garden and moon you should see the size of my bureau I am only five ft two inchs and I b et I could lie down atop the thing and just fit.' itis huge.So I have a lot of space to put my beanies. OH the beanies atop myhead board did have a tendancy to fall off if they jiggled my bed. I have to laugh watching Alex waho did not like my beanies as he really does not know how to make a decent bed, most of the time he has sheets and bed spreads dragging on the floor on one side or other of the bed.I tried to make my own bed and raised all sorts of guss. you pay for this let them do their work blah blah. well wi sh they wou ld do it right then. lol.

Awww, that's so cute Hatley! It's great to be surrounded by friends. At one time I use to collect Boyd's Bears, so I have a bunch of them sitting on top of an antique chest in my living room. I also have a couple of crows, a bunny, a skunk, squirrel, and a really old bear that was my nephew's when he was young. I don't feel overwhelmed at all, and yes, I would still get these if I see one I like alot. I think you should do whatever makes you happy, and these do for me.

I know when I spent four months is a nursing home that I was to consider my room home. So I decorated my half of the room with knickknacks that made me feel comfortable. So if your beanies babies give you pleasure then I am all for it.

hi wow four months I spent one month in a rehab nursing thingy and it was dreadful. I had to share the room with a poor old lady who was senile and refused to eat. I sure would have given anything for something to cheer me up. I was only there for rehabbing my bionic shoulder joint. I had had a bad fall and the bones were crumbled and could not be set. My son and his friend brought these out of storage for me qnd at first I thought well thats the last thing I need then I came to enjoy them as it felt more like home then.So they really do please me a lot. of course I would love to be back in andapartment with my son but so far he has only a part time job so he cannot afford that apt. yet. heck its better for me to be here than homeless on the street. In a way I get a lot for my money as they change my bedding , make my bed each day clean the floor and do my laundry.I get three meals a day plus a snack if I want. the food is not always what I would like but it is food. they take most of my ssi and social security checks but I get one hundred twenty five dollars each month for personal things I need plus I am able to pay my cable bill from most of my mylot earnings I was making two dollars a day when in my own apartment but I often did not go to bed til 2 am. here since we are woke at 6 am I go to bed at ten. lol still make twice minimum so it does help a lot plus I enjoy being on here too. lol So really I could be in a worse situation.

I don't have a lot of beanies, but I have giraffes, horses and cats! When the roomie was on her cruise, I took all my stuffies and put them in the dryer to get most of the dust off them. Yeah, I get to feeling over whelmed, but most of them aren't going anywhere!

hi my g thanks you towo for making me almost dump a glass of water on my keyboard.no they sure are not alive. My son a very science oriented person said how do they know what the heck a dodo bird looks like. I just said oh rack it up to poetic justice, and imagination. He came up with the idea of putting most of them on top of my bureau now I have my old desk back and have mycomputer and monitor on it.[

Hope you don't have your water for this one Hatley. I may not know how they really looked, but when I read "dodo" I remembered in the movie Ice Age when Sid, Diego, and Manny played keep away with the watermelons from the dodo birds...

I have a collection of Winnie the Pooh, not stuffed animals but ceramics and porcelain classics. I was thinking the other day that maybe I will put them up for sale as I really do not admire them as much as I use to. But then I remember each and every occasion that I picked each one of them up and makes me want to re-think the sale.

hi hardworking thats what makes me keep so many as a story goes with some of them. a young man well young to me here as given me three differnet things a cherub doll and two different bears. My stuffed toy Koala bear was a gift from my husband and my stuffed toy alligator also was a gift from him.My beanie moose is now a collectors item as its no longer made and if push comes to shove I maysell it but not likelas it and my snail and my duck are also given me br the manger of our libray. So they may be worth some money but I love them for who gave them to me.

Thanks for reminding me, I have some collector plates that I have to check if someone will pay something for. Bought them in the 80s, so I don´t think they are old enough to be sold, but no harm in checking it.. I have some stamps and a little coins, but they don´t need much space. But I love knitting and crocheting, so I have a lot of yarn.. Let´s see if I can start knitting soon.. Your collection may be valuable - if you sell it, you might have time to enjoy the money..

I have a lot of stuffed animals, including beanie babies, that I have either collected or rescued or that someone got for my mom. I am overwhelmed. When I first started acquiring them I was working in a preschool and we used them in stories.

hi Gardem Gertie I got started just from a snail and a duck that children had left in the library and were in our lost and found. we have sign that says any stuff in lost and found will be held ninety days after that we will dispose of it. So I got my manager to le me have the snail and the duck oh also a moose. My moose now is worth some money but I am not going to sell it yet anyway. from there I just kept adding to it, and of course I never dreamed for a moment I would end up in a place like this so I had a lot of room in my bedroom in our apartment to display my collection. then here I won two bunnies at bingo and four bears as Christmas gifts and one bear for my birthday. Now I am running out of room. lol Our childrens librarian used a puppet named Peter Bunny in telling stories in the kid 's story hour. They really got to' love that bunny too. Also Salvation Army every year here at Christmas gives each resident a praying bear with the tag Salvation Army on it plus gifts of small travel accessoris too. really a sort of nice thing for them to do. Also the council on aging send me a huge handbag but the thing is so ugly I hate to use it.So its stuck in a bureau drawer . I realize its the feeling that counts but for some women they wish to select their own handbags. Its a personal thing.

I love to collect stuffs but because I am away from home and I don't have permanent home here I preferred to do it when I get home. Me and my wife collected different stuff and our rooms have lots of stuffs. When my niece and nephew visited our home they amazed our collections. I will add those stuffs this year of next year when I will go home after I finish my wok contract here in Middle East. It's nice to stare and watch the animal collections while you are inside your room or even in your terrace.

Dodo bird I thought they were extinct? Haha!~ sounds like an animal farm when I first read the beginning part of your discussion, haha!~ I used to have quite a few but passed it down to my lil' sis when we were growing up. She still has a load of them on her bed as well as a whole big box stored away. I remember we used to name all of them together. I can only remember a few & some which I have named I've already forgotten but she still remembers as she was mentioning when I was at her place the other day, haha!~

Hey! YOu listen to me. I've worked in all kinds of nursing homes and hospitals. YOu pay for your keep don't you? Then you have every right to have in your room what you want. Tell house keeping to stick it ! As a head nurse, I would at least "talk to" the housekeeping department. This really ticks me off. Tell those egotisical broads or guyssss............that some day they will want more than a blanket and pillow in their room.......... I'll be in a home one of t hese days and they had better not say one word about my cats..stuffed ones, ceramic, etc...........as well as pics of my dogs, and I'm a sucker for flowers............. So. You scowl right back at those minimum wage earners who have NO RIGHTS to even look at you ! If it continues, go to the head of administration. Your room and board are paid for. You have every right to have those things in your room. Now, BIG OLD hugs to you , quita

hi quita I made a squawk and they let me put all my collection on my large bureau. I save one spot for my son's laptop when he comes to visit me. I scowled then bawled and they gave in so guess bawling at times does work lol.I told them I was tried of being shoved around and of having my stuff moved and pawed through and got furious with them so they agreed to my collecton being together where I can see it. lol lol

Good going ! Squawk all you need or want to. I'm telling you , you still rights and privileges just like the rest of the world does and your thing are important to you. Bawl too if it works ! I do here too and hubby gets all confused and I do get my way LOL Just because you live in a care center makes not difference. It's still your home and your palace. You deserve better treatment than you are getting. Have you told your son these things? I would say, he would be very unhappy if he knew they were trying to get your things moved. You go girl ! Take up for yourself and if it gets worse, do like I said before and report them to the administration... Hang in there tho. hugs, quita

It reminds me of my collection of cats which I have tastefully placed around my house. They are not just any cats but ones with character who are a little different so, as you can imagine, when I come across a new one like that I grab it and find a place for it which is what I did last weekend and to my surprise my husband suddenly lost his temper and informed me that he was sick and tired of so many cats around the house and aren’t the live ones enough? Touchy...Touchy…I still bought the cat...So as far I can see, no problem with a collection you love...

The main collection that I have is a collection of dolphins. I just love them. I started my collection when I was thirteen years old and since that time I've been adding at least one dolphin to my collection each year. I have the vast majority of my dolphins displayed on my mantle over my fireplace. They look beautiful there and it is a great way that I can share my love of dolphins with any guests that come into our home.

Iwish my son would really get a full time great pay ing jo as he only has a part time job yet., this economy is still just horrible and our president does not seem to give a damn.

The last time I really felt I was so surrounded with my collection was before our move to our current place. I used to have a collection of fine-scale models. It was all over the place that the move couldn't have come on a better time. So, I put them all in a box, and a few years later, I still haven't taken them out of the box.
