The hobby varies from person to person. Some like reading, some like having a game of chess, some like to go fishing etc.Playing the erhu is an avocation with me.Erhu is a sort of Chinese music instrument with two strings. Its sound is close to the human voice and rich in expression.every day I come home from work ,I play it for half an hour then I feel relaxed,It gets my mind off my work.I think the hobby is essential to our health,it can enrich our life and regulate our mood.As the saying goes, all work and no play makes Juck a dull boy.Dear mylotters,I wonder what is your hobby ,what do you think of the hobby?

Your hobby is new, innovative and relaxing.I wonder if there is an article on you tube on the said musical instrument.I'm interested as you say it makes a sound close to the human voice.I too love music, sports and movies which take my mind of the stress of day to day life.

There's a good description of the erhu here, together with two videos demonstrating how it is played and how it sounds. It seems to be quite loud and expressive for such a small and rather basic instrument (it only has two strings and the sounding part is made of snakeskin): http://www.philmultic.com/home/instruments/erhu.html

One of my new hobbies is visiting myLot and participating on discussions and reading them as well. Whenever I'm available, I just bring out my phone and browse on myLot and answer discussions to earn money and have fun. My other hobbies are creating 3d art and producing music, although the latter had came in to a halt because of lack of resources (I lost my installer of my multi-tracking application, crashed and can't be fixed.). I mostly do 3d art right now. If you check out my website you'll find some of my works there. I'm planning to remove the bad ones there because I noticed I've been improving in a lot of aspects.

Hehe. I'm more of a computer person, my hobbies (when I'm bored at home) Either programming, or gaming. I am a leader of a gaming clan, for which I play occasionally. I play Call of Duty, Urban Terror, Halo, Battlefield and MineCraft :) As well as that, real-life hobbies include basketball, football, and rugby :) Or just going out with friends.

I am very fond of reading. It takes all the negative vibes in my body. It is also like my sleeping pill whenever I have my bouts with insomnia. Sometimes when I travel, I have a book in my hand to keep me away from stagnation and boredom.

I strongly agree with you;hobbies are very important for people because they help them detach themselves from everyday problems and build their own miniworld, based on their passions and preferences;there are many times when I'm saick of work and then I think about the moment I will get home and follow some of my hobbies, and this thought helps me to get throgh the day.I can't imagine living without my hobbies.

Well, I like to engage myself in outdoor activities it's also my time to relax that's why it's better to have hobby. Aside from that, I also indulge myself in photography. I love to shoot people that have a great outcome story once it's in image already. It is also my way to express my creativity. I think hobbies are important in our lives. It's our time to just do what we want to do. Sometimes we just need to break for a while in our jobs and have fun. Have a nice day!

Yes, hobbies are one of those things that add spice to life. I have had lots of hobbies but I noticed that they often change as I age :) When I was a kid, I liked collecting stamps, but I stopped that now. (Which I think I shouldn't have 'cause stamps are getting rarer since only a few send out letters via snail mail) Collecting old coins started as a hobby for me but now I collect them for it's monetary value. I think of it as an investment now. But there are still hobbies that to this day I still engage in but they're mostly sports-related.

i think it's really hard, but the truth is we should not only HAVE a hobbie but we all should LIVE of a hobbie, like doing a normal work and trying to make our hobbie fly, only people who do what they really love become rich and our hobbie is the way to see what we love to do cause we do it for free

Searching for different opportunities,on making money on net,and online browser games are my current hobbies.Earlier i was into numismatic products. Hobbies are a stress buster in some sort, though certain hobbies require investments.Hobbies are also essential and good for people living alone! It fills the emptiness, and keeps the mind relaxed.Passion is required for hobbies. Now answering your question:- When a hobby becomes a THERAPY,you cant live without it.

Hi Yes, I agree with you. Every person needs some or the other hobby, otherwise its just impossible to get rid of boredom. And having a hobby is healthy too. It keeps you in good mental health. It is specially required for the old people, after retirement to keep themselves busy.

I can't say that I am familiar with the sound of an erhu, but I have heard of it. I like the fact that you are able to play an instrument and that it helps you to relax. I used to play guitar when I was younger and I found it to be the same way. I was in China from September until Jan 2 and I got into cross stitch. I always had trouble completing projects when I was here since I was never shown the secret of doing it right, but the first one I bought there they showed me how to get started and they drew grids on the canvass and I was able to finish it quickly. I started a second one and was 2/3 done with it when I got sick and had to return to the states. I haven't worked on it since I got back here, mostly because I didn't have it with me most of the time. I guess I should take a break from mylot and get back into it. I really like seeing the progress I make on these projects. Thanks for bringing up the topic!

I suppose people could live their lives with never having hobby. It could certainly be a lonelier life. For our mental health and stability, we need an outlet to release our emotions. Hobbies that we enjoy doing often fill this need.

I completely agree to that. We need a hobby. A hobby can be quite innovative. I have a set of dissimilar hobbies, like listening to music, drawing cartoons, reading books. However, some people are very innovative in hobbies. They are actually very creative in choosing their hobbies. Elder brother of one of my friend was crazy about electronic gadgets. "I can feel the circuits like my own nerves", he used to say. He worked for the government and at the same time he used to build stuffs. He can fix almost anything that runs with electricity. This hobby has little similarities with the kind of job that he's doing, but he seemed to be happy and fresh always. Reading books refreshes my mind. It relieves me from fatigue. It doesn't have to be a story book. Just a book with letters written on it - and it's a great thing for me. I spend a lot of money every year to buy books.
