my granddaughter was given Php700 to pay the school for her tuition but she came home crying saying that someone took it from her backpack. before that, she has informed the faculty but because she can not point who took it, they said they cannot do anything. i am very angry that they did not do inspection or investigation at all. the teacher should have at least gone to the police station to have the incident recorded in the police blotter. it was very late at night that i learned of the incident because my granddaughter cannot call me because she also lost her cellphone. it is very frustrating and upsetting. are there incidents like this that happened to your children in school? do authorities in school try and investigate or do they just let it pass like nothing happened? ann

Very sorry to hear that thieves in that school. All I can say is that in the public school there are so many poor students from the poor family and what will they do, they will take the money or any other things that can be sold. For me the breeding is very important in the family and the teachings from the parents. Also, the teachers can help their pupils/students to teach what is good and what is bad. We cannot blame the students of their attitudes, they are not in their right mind yet. For your information,I'm also a product of public school from elementary to college.

It is a shame that even kids now do things like this. Poverty can never be an excuse for things like this. I just can't understand why here where I am, those who are underage can not be punished. In other countries, kids who do not abide by the law and detained for some time for them to learn their lessons the hard way. Some may say that they should not be detained for their safety. I totally agree. But they will be detained together with kids their own age. Besides, even kids now are being violent. Older people has to be safe from them also.

hello jhaidro, i dont think detaining the children will make them change their ways. what if the kids they are with are like what you said, violent? what will happen to them there inside with them. there has to be some rehabilitation centers to take care of them for a while if they are caught doing petty crimes. and the parents should be advised about what their kids do and should discipline them. ann

I have seen it in other countries. Their facilities are like the typical jail the only thing is the teenagers are the ones occupying it. When faced with kids that are a little more violent than them, I think that it is something healthy. Of course they will not get hurt because part of the facility's system is tight security. I guess that it is better for them to be in the opposite situation. I would like them to fear rather than get feared. I want them to experience losing things rather than the one taking them. In this way, I believe that as soon as they get out, they will build more respect for people. I hope that as soon as they leave the facility, they will be a change human being and understand the golden rule. Parents, at least most of them are doing their part in building discipline in their kids. These days, even at a young age, kids go against their parents. They fight their own flesh and blood. If words are not enough, parents tends to go with a different type of establishing authority. In the Philippines, some parents uses sticks to hit their child on the butt just to have their kids fear them to gain respect. Of course, the force parents use to hit their kids is not too much. But with the existence of some organizations who is focused on the child's welfare, when they hear reports like this, parents then go to jail. I do not see this working. I think that a little force from parents would help. Of course you will not just hit the kid without reason. After parents do this, they then explain this to their children. I have been through this as a kid and I think that it went well for me. I have big respect to my parents and other people and what they have.

Yes, a similar situation happened to my 7-year-old son who's attending an all-boys private school somewhere in Quezon City (Philippines). He as well as two classmates of his lost their allowance money in several instances when they left the room during recess. Actually, that's only our theory for that's the only time they left their things unattended. We had reported this to the school authorities but they couldn't do anything about it 'cause no one actually saw who took it, which I understood. It might have some negative effect on the children if they started an investigation. I'm actually more irritated in the fact that stealing exists in a private school such as my son's school.

hi beamer, teachers should be aware that these things have been happening in their rooms and they should do investigation to catch the culprit. they should not just act like nothing happened because they will be tolerating the thieves to do the same thing over and over. ann

Sweety, This is really so bad. Munu faced an almost similar experience last December, she had taken cash 3000 to pay school dues, plus tution fee for the tutor for private tutions to her and Nanhi, the tutor lives near school, some body stole all. My son went to school and filed complant with the principal, next day some miracle happened, when Munu returned from comfort room, she discoverd the 3000 in her mathematical geometry box..evidently the thief was her classmate.. So did Thea got her money back? Thanks for this beautiful discussion Cheers. God bless you, have a nice day ahead. Professor ‘Bhuwan’. .

I was wondering if your granddaughter might not lost the money to the school or along the way going to school. If she was in the school I guess she must be careful. Inspection must done to the class immediately as generally. Lame option in saying to point out.

I also experienced it in my school before when someone took money out of a teacher's wallet in his unattended bag!!! (this is a private school in the Philippines) But, our teachers' immediately inspected our bags and the grounds. Same thing happened when other students lost theirs too. I think it suppose to he the responsibility of the school to take care of these things first because it happened in their grounds. And, the students mostly did that for unimportant things that they think its too important for them. I heard one time that the thief stole money just to play DOTA (a computer game)...

That is not good Ann. The school should have made a bit more effort in trying to find the money. This type of thing happened a lot last year and the year before to my children, but not with money. It happened with their school hats. We had to keep buying new one after new one as they kept going missing. They both said that their hats were going missing out of their bags. It happened to both of my children repeatedly over a period of time. The teachers said they could not do anything and just kept telling me to check lost property. In the end, I sent them to school in different hats that were not school uniform. One time another child threw my sons hat on the roof and they would not let me climb up to get it. They said that I had to wait until the groundsman, who did regular roof top checks, got up there. Well a couple of weeks later, he had still not gotten it. It was then the end of the year and we lost it.

Care and caution should be takn when you take any valuable items to school. Schools don't like to take responsibility for what someone takes from you. More trauma can be gained from trying to get your things back where they belong/

..Hi there, I don't have any children or grandchildren but I am sure that this goes on a lot especially in these times where people are struggling or they are just theives without any morals. If I were you I would make much noise, then threaten to withhold the tuition until they at least question the children. I would report it to the highest authority you can. Lockers should be provided for kids if they have something valuable with them. Sorry that this happened but don't just report it once, make much noise, remember the squeaky wheel. Appeal to their guilt, request that you pay 1/2 the tuition because it was stolen. Take care. Good luck.

Similar incidents were happened but not with higher amounts. Always make sure that we should not send the children with more money. Also tell the children to handle money with care and teach them how to take care of money. Thank-s

Hi dear, Still you are not late. You got a double hold now. You can submit and complaint with the cope and about the incident and at the same time also mention the irresponsibility of the school authorities also. However make sure that the money is lost only from the school or from the class room. What is the age of the child. You should not have to send the hard cash with the children below a particular age. We cannot blame them of their irresponsibility. If we send such cash we need to keep money in an envelop along with the filled forms. Somebody must have noticed that the child has money with her and in her absence, it must have been flicked. Now you insist the principle or class teacher that they should ask the fact about in the class room and if any one got or misplaced or in any manner, got the cash please return it. If you got a parent teacher (PTA) association bring the fact infront of them and make it as in issue. Atleat hence forth such things should not happen to any body. However, check with the child and find out how and where it happened and when it lost. Thank-s

If they try to investigate,it would change the reputation of the school,so the school master would rather not to make a big deal out of stealing something from somebody. And besides don't jump to conclusions that someone has stolen it,she might have left it somewhere or somebody could have borrowed it and return it back without asking that is
