My frieds child whose in Kumon is so amazing. In his 2 weeks attending classes makes his english speaking broad. And his Math, he can solve probems (computation) just in hand. Kumon specializes only English & Math. I love my kids to be in Kumon but my husband don't like the idea. He said, it's enough that our kids are learning just in school & at home by teaching us. My objective of wanting that is for my kids to be advance in Math... it's just, my husband don't like the idea.... hmmmmp to him *lol

hi lhenni, i also persuaded my husband about this by bringing him to the center with me when we enolled our daughter. what is amazing is that the results. The teacher there told me, that they aim is not for the kids to be advanced but for them to be very good at the basics and that is where the progress starts. With my daughter her goal after a year is for her to be a fast reader. :) i was also thinking whether what she is learning in school is enough then i realized that i do not need for to be advanced, but my priority is for her to be good at it..to be good in reading,or writing..and i hope the outcome will be satisfactory.

Maybe that's why my husband refuse my wanting because my goal is just for advancement. How selfish of me! He said that there's no need to be advance... and I realize that, he is right. But maybe if I modify my reason to a positive one, like as you said discipline and learn the basics for enhancement, maybe his answer will be favorable to me *lol... thanks

Kumon emphasize alot of exercises so the kids learn by doing. Generally the results are impressive. It enforces a discipline to do worksheets. In such a way, the students are used to worksheet (which is similar to exams) and because they had lots of practice, they pick up the skills. But kumon or no kumon, the parent's attention to the child must be there.

yes part of kumon's program is the parent's attention to the kids.. but i do devote time for them.. i just want to try what difference it will have on my daughter. she does not have any confidence in reading, she gets shy when she is asked to read in front and no matter how much i ask and train her to she shy away..so kumon might help:)

Kumon is good. I enrolled my kids there. The problem however is this. The schools they are enrolled in are already teaching them Math and reading. Later on i realized that even if they are advanced in math, they might still slip back to just a regular student like the others after a while. Therefore i would end up just taking away more time for my kids to rest and play.

yes i was also thinking of that, that i might take away some time for them but then i realized now is the time for me to teach them time management, if i could teach them that, then maybe there will still be time to teach them and also let them play and rest. because part of kumon ( as ive read) teaches discipline and managing time..well i hope it will work out for my kids, i am still in its trial period and hoping for good results before proceeding and paying lol thanks!
