tremors.. earthquakes...

i experienced it again while i was chatting the other night. it was around past 11pm my time and everything around me was shaking for some time. maybe about a minute. it was first a little intense, then slowed. thinking it was gone i continued chatting but then i felt it was again gaining intensity and i had to stop and tell my chat. after a few minutes, it felt very hot. i was perspiring.
my mind was brewing some negative thoughts then.. what if there will be a very intense shaking? what if it comes when i am asleep? 
i was feeling paranoid. i wonder what happens before a really strong earthquake. i have read that insects can detect it. how true? would you feel that way too if it happens to you?

I live on the West Coast of the USA and have experienced many earthquakes in my life. Some of them quite large. In a large quake it can be shaking so hard that you can't stand or run, then you just hope you have some protection from falling items, in the smaller ones I generally try to get under something that will protect me in case a larger quake hits. Like any other natural event you just learn to live with it and face that fact that if it's your time to go to heaven you will nothing can be done.

Wow, Ann, that would have been frightening. I have never felt an earth tremor. There was one where I grew up, but I slept through it. Later after I moved away, there was a larger one, but I missed that one too. 
Recently I went too a science museum where they have an "Earthquake House". It is set up to shake exactly like a house would in an earthquake. It would be horrific living through that as it was pretty intense! 
Was anything damaged?

We have had minor earthquakes in our area that I can remember, not never any major earthquakes. That said, I think that to know that there might be an earthquake that was imminent that I would be very uncomfortable. I do believe that insects might be able to detect that there is going to be an earthquake in the near future because of the fact that so many of them live in the ground and because of that they are more in touch with changes that are happening than we are.

hi dora,
i myself have not experienced anything major (God forbid!). but swaying does quite a panic already. it is not everyday that it happens. some parts of the philippines have had major ones destroying buildings and other properties. am very glad it has not happened here in my city.

I have already told you that 'i think' i live in a very safe place, there is no eartquake, hurricane, typhoon; so far. Since your place has this tremors frequently, you are habituated to this, there is no chance of negetive thinking.
If your chat mate is from a place where their is no eartquake, he must have got frightened badly

hi professor,
i was saying too that i am very lucky because where i am, i have never experienced hurricane or typhoon, unlike in manila or cebu and other parts of my country. but i guess the whole country experiences tremors ones in a while because we are sitting on the "ring of fire" as they call it. sometimes it maybe due to the movements of the plates underneath the earth. sometimes the cause can be volcanic. i am not very sure about this though.
my chat was saying.. for me to relax and said he's praying for me. 
well, his prayers so powerful and it did work. i came out whole after that.
