Do you put off the more difficult jobs for later or tackle them first ?

Most of us have this tendency to tackle easier jobs first and tackle the more difficult ones later, sometimes even putting it off indefinitely ! Unless I make a conscious effort I too do the same, tackle the easier ,less time consuming jobs first and then go on to the more difficult and time consuming jobs.Probably the fact that one can finish more number of smaller jobs instead of getting stuck on one is a reason for doing this . How about you all? do you take on the easier jobs first or ..?

i think kiran, u should do first time do the easy jobs. because it builds ur confidence. and by ur confidence hard jobs become easier. i say it coz this is my experience. don't mind if u have different opinion. but if u failed to do hard job that time u will become nervous. that time the easy job will become harder. this will make u frustrated.

Hi midhib,I guess there is some wisdom in what you say !I too tend to do it, but more out of practice and for different reasons like I do what is easy first lol...But I normally do what needs to be done first, like priority jobs - thanks a lot for your response and have a nice evening

hi kiran, in my line of work, i have to address the problem as they come whether it is easy or difficult. sometimes a difficult and another easy problem comes and they had to be taken cared of or it will pile up. thing is, if one difficult problem comes, you have to have a team to help you out. i am lucky in that sense. i delegate the easy ones and then try to solve the difficult together with my office staff. have a nice day. and happy valentines day too. ann

Hi ann, yes that happens when you work and then there is no question of a difficult task or an easy one, you have to do your job.But I have seen here in government offices the more complicated files get delayed because of the same reason, people prefer to finish the easier jobs first - thanks a lot for sharing your view , enjoy your weekend

I would love to do the easier jobs first because I will be happy with the success and I will be more energetic to confront the other ones. You are right that if you take the harder one in the first time then you will get stuck with it and you will waste your time also. It is similar to my morning wake up activities. I wake up and then I have to get a bucket of water from the nearby tap, but because I don't wear the jacket while sleeping so first I do a smaller job and that is to wear a jacket first and then bring the water. Jacket will provide me warmth and then I can do the next job without feeling cold. You get the fruit from the first smaller easier job and that will support you with th harder ones.

Hi sanjay, Early morning after you leave your bed, it is really tough to straight away get into the mood of doing some difficult jobs.I remember when I was in school I had to wake up early in the morning and get milk from the dairy.During winter months it was really difficult to wake up since it used to be very cold in Bangalore..But once I was up, I used to love finishing all other jobs before others woke up - Likewise you too must be feeling right ? all the best and thanks a lot for your response

I will tend to do the ones I think I will enjoy doing, regardless of easy or difficult. But if the jobs are both something I like or have no affinity to, I would prefer to do the more difficult tasks first. I guess it is a matter of training from young, get the toughies out of the way to have a smooth journey home. Even if I am not able to complete the easier ones by the end of the day, i am sure it can be handled without much effort later. I will sweat out the tough ones first.

Before giving you a piece of my mind allow me to say one thing. It is a matter of how one does things for himself. There is no absolute response to this because what might be best for you could be the worst for me or vice versa. Individual differences matter. For me, I tackle the more difficult jobs first before tackling the easy ones because I see my self motivated and on the go if I work the deductive way (most difficult to the least). I find it as a process of segregating and prioritizing things, thus, first things first. In addition, it is a personal style which I deem it effective and quality output-based.

Hi Kiran! I would prefer to finish the difficult or tedious job first. At my work place, if I have been given three assignments and two are easier, I would go for the tough one because I know once I have done with the difficult one, I can quicily finish off the easier one. If I keep the difficult job pending, it causes tension and affects teh easier jobs too.

I also complete easier tasks first because it builds your confidence and well begun is half done. I remember that during exams i used to complete all practical questions and then start with theory /long answers.Practical answers used to generate more marks and could be completed in lesser time.

I usually finish the easiest on the list first, though sometimes, when I feel like being workaholic I do the hardest tasks first and after that, I would finish the easier ones. I try to be organized as possible, as it makes my work easier and less complicated than it should be. For me, the most important this is doing something whether it be easy or hard in order to atleast move towards my target goal.

Hi Ingking, It is good to be organized in life !It is also helpful to achieve your target if you set goals and work towards it, when that happens one wouldn't bother whether the job is difficult or easy right ? all that you want to do is achieve your target...all the best and happy mylotting

This has to depend on what i am getting out of the task. if it is something, I don't look forward to, I will put it off for as long as I possibly can. If it something to inspire my day, i will tackle this job no matter what the difficulties may be.

I personally always go for the harder bigger jobs first. Then I will do a couple smaller jobs then another harder one then smaller. I have found that I have to change it up a little inbetween otherwise I get very bored and then frustrated otherwise.Sometimes those big jobs (like mine done on a computer all day) make you very sleepy. So the small ones are a good break

Hi Kiran, i prefer to finish the easier job first. It is because everyday i might have few tasks that need to finish on the same day. Some are easy tasks and some are difficult tasks. If i focus on difficult job first, i will definitely need more time to finish a single task. Its make me feel like "how come i have so many job haven't finish?". That why i prefer to finish easier first because the time i need is shorter and then after i finish all the easier tasks, i can fully focus on the more difficult job.

Hi cmang, thanks a lot for your response I agree that more time and effort is needed to finish the more difficult jobs and we tend to put it forward unless it is a priority and needs to be completed first ! all the best and have a nice week ahead

I do the same, unless the hard stuff is urgent. Then, I would put aside the small jobs and focus on the hard work. I try to do all works within a day, that way I would deal with different things the next day, but often a hard stuff takes more than two days to handle and that will really bore me that I want to finish it as soon as possible and put aside all the small things.

In my case, I do the easier tasks first, so that I can devote all my time to doing the difficult tasks afterwards. This way, my concentration is fully dedicated to the difficult task. I don't have to worry about other tasks. I just don't want to get stuck in a difficult task first, which may leave the easy tasks unattended because more time is needed to complete the difficult task.

I take up jobs with prior deadlines first. EVen for changing the address on abank account, if there is some desperate need of getting some posts and risk of missing them, thsi will top my priority list. Otherwise, in household jobs it would be the easier ones first because at times the difficult ones would prove unending and nothing would have been accomplished[like what is happening with me in my new place Kiran--I am still disorganized ; my clothes , books are all at disarray, my kitchen is getting unmanageable because work keeps adding up and there is no end to organizing and making the kitchen neat. THe little one at home is like a magnet and he occupies so much of our time.

Hi kala, lol I just wrote the same thing in the above post. I too do those jobs that need to be done and has a deadline. As for other jobs I opt for the easier ones first and then take up the difficult one... I can imagine what it must getting a house and especially kitchen organized and that too with a little one that needs constant attention ! I remember how it was when my kids were babies. so many jobs would get neglected but somehow it never mattered at that time..

Personally, I believe that tackling the difficult tasks first would be less stressful later on when you start to tackle the easier tasks. If I start with the difficult tasks first while my energy level is still up, I wouldn't be stressed out later on when my energy level goes down. The easier tasks can be done with less energy. Easier said than done. I always end up procrastinating. He he.

I believe I am quite the opposite as I am one who like to tackle the more time consuming ones first so that this way I can get them out of the way. At the end of the tiring more gruesome tasks, some how I regenerate and gain energy to get the simple ones out the way. As I see it if the the longer lasting tasks for me were left for last I would feel way to tried when I am done. Maybe I am weird.
