China is looking at a Jasmine Revolution of their own. It is small now, and the government was already censoring their information. But some how word is getting out.

I wonder if Obama will side with the people here. Is he going to call for democracy in China? Will he finally earn his Nobel Peace Prize and save the world? What do you think?

I was thinking about that yesterday and worried at the same time (due to the fact that one attempted revolution was bloodily put down in the 80s) - will China be next?
if it works 2011 may consigned to history as the year of the democratisation of the world
but is democracy really the best option for the world? Of course dictatorship and other cruel forms of governance are no option at all. But do we really need a political leadership? Just asking that question myself very often when I look at what politicians do...

stk40m,
I think you are right about democracies not being good for everyone. There should be a system where people are equal and have a fair chance of getting ahead in the world. I think true communism (not the political tripe they call communism) might be a good thing. If everyone were working together for a common goal, that would be an ideal situation. But that never happens. People get power and it all goes down the drain. I don't think there really is a good political system. Thanks for getting me thinking!

I think democracy is far better than dictatorship although in nowadays democracies we don't really have a big choice as to who leads the country, do we? If you allow a little pun :-) I'd say, 'democracy is not good for everybody'. I mean there's no democratic nation on Earth where all people have the same chances, let alone the same social status. In a democracy we always have poor and rich, too.
I don't want to suggest communism and I don't have a clear idea which system would be best but I feel that mankind still has to search for something that's good for all. Just thinking :D
Cheers
ps. I didn't respond to your actual question so far. I'd say Obama will support any democratic movement no matter which country. But he'll be VERY careful with what he says to Hu Jintao as China is an economic heavyweight. Oh, imo Obama never earned any price for peace. He's just another warlord.

Are you crazy? Obama has done nothing but evil and will continue in that vein. He was "awarded" the so-called "peace" prize as a reward for bringing the US to its knees and being instumental in its loss of freedom, sovereignty, and ultimate demise.

laglen, sorry I missed the intent! Scum like O and his ilk, including Al Gore, who received the "prize" for his giant Ponzi scheme are the ruination of not just our once free country, but the world.
If God tarries, I hope there is a special "prize" in hell for them.

laglen,
I really do not think President Obama would be meddling with the politics and/or the current tense situation in China.
Why should he?
Like Tunisia, Egypt, Bahrain, Yemen, Algeria and Libya - all of us have yet to see him or America intervening. It is just unnecessary and unethical to meddle with another country's politics. However, I feel that these uprisings are gaining an uncomfortable momentum which I am sure is also a grave concern for every country where America is not excluded.
I just hope that that day will never come. Regulators must not only be impartial but resourceful or we will just be asking for such uprisings to happen.
Take care and have a nice day.

laglen,
From the developments (so far), I don't think any of them is seeking America or any other countries for help.
Good or bad, I suppose time will tell but at this point of time I think it is fair to say that everyone will suffer in these countries where everything is being forced to a standstill. Not forgetting that they are at the weakest stage where they can be easily fall into bad hands probably worse than the current dictating government.

This is going to require him to be very quite as well China is a big trading partner with us. I think we should support the People of China (Don't worry the American people will do that for the Government)
Obama will most likely do the same thing he did in Egypt at least that is what I am thinking.
As for if the Revolution gets any ground well if the People of China want that current government gone well just look at their history China hasn't kept a Dynasty that the People didn't support.
Laglen yeah maybe he will earn that prize after all. I personally feel that for once we are sticking to our foundation when we supported the Uprising/Revolution in Egypt as in our Declaration of Independence it states that it is the Peoples right to Abolish government if it is no longer working to keep the Secure in their rights and protection for their future. I feel that we did miss a chance to help the Uprising that happened in Iran which I was in support of I mean we need to let the people of these countries know that we support them in their efforts. Being true to our founding would get us out of a lot of the problems that we are currently having.
@Epicure I think you really need to realize that Obama isn't the Master of Puppets he isn't able to do much of anything as President of the United States. I mean he can make us look like idiots (The last president did the same thing) so I mean if your are talking about destroying our nation then you need to follow the money which is coming from Massive Companies you are delusional if you think that these Corporations don't run our government or that the Two parties both the Democrats and the Republicans are aiming for the samething the United States Constitution being a thing of the past.
"There's an old saying in Tennessee—I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee—that says, 'Fool me once, shame on, shame on you. Fool me you can't get fooled again.'" That came from the Last Presidents mouth. I think even Chinese know how this goes.

Well I am hoping with his current track record in this case he will support the people of china.
Also a note on the whole them owning us thing China did sell some of that debt to Japan so I am not sure how much China actually owns us.

Hi laglen,
Obama changing the Chinese notion to democracy seems far flung. China is still looking for chances to broaden its territory by adding some part of India, specially the state of Arunachal.
A war like situation is already in the air.

oops didn't know you had started a similar discussion already sorry for stepping on your toes. A lot of corporations are heavily invested in China's economy right now I don't think they are liking the idea of a new democratic government so I would expect the white house to be silent on it for awhile.

Thanks for sharing this. I had not seen this article before since I haven't been following the news for some time. I guess I'm glad I'm not in China any more. I was supposed to start teaching again this week, but I had to quit my job to come back to America for medical treatment I couldn't easily get there. I would certainly hope that the president makes some attempt to call for democracy in China.

I dont know about your head huncho, but I know that ours asked China to be more democratic....meanwhile, it seems to be our 2 countries that are lacking in democracy lately.
I wish they'd give the nobel prize to the wikileak guy lol
