I'm very upset with myself. I'm just using it to practice new techniques, but in order to use them on a project, I'll need a new knife. Every time I use the broken tip one, it scores, dents or rips the wood at that end. Man am I ever ticked at myself. So have you ever ruined something that you were using to make something with? Like break a crochet hook, miscut a plastic canvas shape, or anything else? How did you deal with it? Did you have to buy something new? Did you have extra so it wasn't a real problem? (like extra plastic canvas or extra yarn or extra embroidery floss for examples)

I bought fabric and a pattern for a special dress. My mom cut it out wrong. It could have been fixed okay, except there was not any more fabric at the store just exactly like it. I loved the dress, but I knew that the minor discrepancy could be seen. It was very disappointing.

I'm sorry. My Mom scorched a dress I had with an iron. She cut the scorched part out and made a pretty lace bell. She sowed it on. People liked my pretty lace bell the best. That does sound disappointing. I mostly wrote this to make me feel better about breaking that knife. Maybe if I get enough stories like this. . ..

That stinks big time... The only thing I can think of that I broke was a sewing machine needle when I was in the middle of sewing something..Of course sewing needles don't cost nearly as much as your knife, I think if I broke something that expensive, I would get very upset...

I'm trying to console myself with this topic. Hopefully someone will mess up something more costly. Sewing machne needles do have a tendancy to break. Seems like my Mom had to buy a few at a time to make sure she had some for her projects. I think you're pretty normal. I had been told that if I didn't do the technique correctly, I could break the tip. Wish I had had a cheaper knife to go break.

Maybe that is why I never got into any expensive hobby's, because I do tend to break things...lol Sorry you broke your knife, and that I didn't break anything more than sewing machine needles..lol

oh i do that all the time! i learn by the hit and miss method. sometimes what i make is a hit other times it is a miss - right now i have an issue because i poured resin and spilled it on my craft table and also cannot get the shape out of the mold!

Resin is hard stuff to work with. I'm such a clutz when it comes to liquids. Were you suuposed to spray the mold with something before you poured the stuff in? Have you asked other Myloters for help?

When I sew..breaking needles is one of the biggest pains I have....usually though I have more around for my machines...our JoAnn's moved to a town 20 miles away so before they moved I stocked up...otherwise I would have to drive all that way for needles!

Our JoAnn's couldn't compete with Walmart. But I still miss them. Lots of things we can't get now. Michael's and Walmart, they just don't have the customer service.

When I spoil something, nine times out of 10 it is because I am trying to cut a corner or using a tool in a way for which it wasn't designed. Then it's doubly frustrating as it could so easily have been avoided.

Yes, I was supposed to go straight up and down with the tip, not try to turn corners which makes it frustrating. So if you don't have electricity off the main grid, how are you doing this computer stuff?

Laptop computers have batteries I do have a big diesel generator for operating big tools and a washing machine, so I recharge on that or when I'm out. But since we've met I've been away from home on a course so I've had far better internet access than I normally would.

I was wondering because you seem to be on here a lot. So you have a lap top, cool. I had a friend that I've lost touch with, he lives where he only has solar and when his one light bulb and computer from that are done, they're done. Diesal generator, that must really smell. I'd have to get the Willy Neison version, his deisel bus smells like French Fries (he reuses cooking oil from restaurants) but he's mostly down south, that stuff would freeze up here. Thanks for the explanation. I only used a generator during the ice storm and almost dislocated my shoulder trying to start it each time. Now they have easier to start ones. Thank goodness. Take care.
