Baked Beans On Toast - Ultimate Comfort Food?

Now, a couple of weeks ago I started a discussion all about how my husband makes his cheese on toast and it's waaay different to how I do it, so I thought I'd ask you about baked beans on toast this time.
Well, the way I do it is this. I toast two slices of bread in the er, toaster. Whilst that is happening I microwave my HEINZ baked beans for a full 5 minutes on high power. The reason for this is that I keep them in the fridge. Why? I don't know. I just do lol.
Usually, the toast is ready before the beans so I take that time to BUTTER the two slices, then cut them in half and place all 4 halves around the plate.
Then the beans are ready (a full tin!) and I pour them in the middle as the slices are round the sides..do you know what I mean? However, I do make sure the beans slide around in the butter a bit because it's yummy that way.
Guess how John does it? Well, he used to before I "reformed" him. You guessed it, he doesn't butter the toast.
It's unbelievably dry if the toast isn't buttered and I cannot understand his method, I really don't.
By the way, Dad has discovered some new beans that are cheaper and just as nice as Heinz ones, called Lifestyle. Unfortunately, we can't find them round here.
As for Branstons et al...they're horrible, I'm sorry!
Gotta be Heinz!! Oh, and you can grate cheese on the top of the beans as well if you want to be creative. Haha!
So my friends, am I normal doing beans on toast this way?

lol..you probably are normal! I Indianize my baked beans because we have it with rotis.
I first heat a little oil and put in mustard seeds. Then I saute sliced onions and one green chilli (cut into half)and add the baked beans with a little water (to make a gravy). Heat it in a microwave or stove and serve!
My kids love it! And I loved it when my mom made it. But my in-laws didn't liek it. Guess they are used to the typical south Indian dishes.

Well, since I hate baked beans, and most beans of any kind...I will just say...if you like it, what's wrong with that!! I mean at least you aren't dirtying up two dishes by putting the beans in a bowl and the toast on a plate!LOL!!! And most like something to go with their beans so why not toast and hot buttered toast is a great flavor! And since modern day has put beans in chili (real chili is meat only!) why not have bean chili? And with money being tight and groceries being high...I'd say you have a nice meal for all the right reasons!
KNow my "thing" with beans? I hate refried beans. HOWEVER...I make a really fantastic bean dip with them! Stupid I know, but I mix a can of refried beans (no fat style) in my food processor, add 3/4 cup of salsa, half can of black olives, chopped onions and mix it all up! When done, either now or as I serve it, add grated cheddar cheese, put some in a dip bowl, nuke it to make it hot and serve with my homemade corn chips! I have made this for gatherings and been complimented to the hilt about it! I can eat this for a meal! But... I hate refried beans! Go figure!

LOL! It's like me with onions. I like them to flavour food but if I SEE them in my food (they've got to dissolve) I have to take them out with a fork.
What a palava!

I made some spam and beans the other day. I baked it all in the oven. The next day I made myself a sandwich. I toasted the bread, put some mayonaise on the toast. Before I put the beans and spam on the toast I warmed it up in the microwave first. I put some meat down and pile on the beans. My uncle eats baked bean sandwiches. Never had beans on toast the way you do. Sounds good though.

Spam is my brother's favourite food (well it used to be when he was younger) and I absolutely love spam sandwiches, not that I eat them now but they are yummy.
Yes, I can imagine my hubby being "into" baked bean sandwiches. He seems to like food that's a bit messy!

yuk yuk yukity yuk, sooo sorry, but really hate baked beans. I used to like them, but there was a newspaper article years ago, about something, I won't tell you what as it just makes me feel ill, that was found in a tin of baked beans. so truly unable to eat them anymore. but love tinned spaghetti or tomatoes, yum yum. and oh yes toast has to be buttered, its sacrilege not to butter the toast, totally unthinkable.

Glad you like butter anyway! Lurpak is my favourite but it's sooo expensive now, as a lot of dairy produce is.

Hi Janey,
That is exactly how I do my baked Beans on toast, just like how you do it but I don't have it often, once in a while my hubs would ask for it, I am not that keen on, only when I am starving and its something quick, hub don't even know how to do it, lol! never seen him doing it for himself and I have been married for 30 years.

Hi Tamara
My Dad is the same. He's not as bad as he used to be..but bad enough! John's very good in the kitchen and he actually LIKES cooking at times, so that always helps.
We don't have beans on toast every night...usually when we're back home from the football because we don't want to put the oven on lol.

We're not allowed to say the word "recipe" my friend.
It's not really that thing beginning with "r" as I'm discussing how I make beans on toast..so I'm not listing the ingredients or anything. Oh my, I better shut up lol.
I hope you do try it as it's great as "comfort food" like I said. Not that good if it's red hot outside!

Hubby made the beans, and we need to finish them up. I have bread on hand and everything else I need to make more. So I am good.

Gotta warn yer, it does fill you up! It's no longer a cheap food either. Poorer people years ago used to have beans on toast as it was cheap..it isn't anymore. Yes, you can shop around for cheaper beans but it is rare to find cheap bread and it is also expensive making your own!!

I eat beans on toast very much the same way way as you Janey. But now, I have one problem, I have a sugar intolerance and most beans are laced with sugar, and I find the sugar-free variety quite tasteless. So I tend to go for mackeral on toast instead. I always like butter with it. Another thing I am not supposed to have, but now and again it OK..

Wow, that sounds a much healthier option than mine! My Dad likes oily fish but there isn't a fishmongers nearby anymore. Mum would have to bring it all the way back from Fleetwood Freeport!

I can't stand peanut butter! I love peanuts though!
I know what you're saying but baked beans swimming in butter is so ace. Margarine doesn't cut it!

Hi,
It sounds yummy from the way you described your baked beans on toast.
I am yet to try toast baked beans. What I am having normally is
baked bean with porridge and I just have it this afternoon for my
lunch. Simple dishes to go.
I love to eat bake beans and I have found a new menu to cook baked beans
with potatoes, I am yet to try it out.
But from the recipe, it looks yummy .

Another favourite of mine is fish fingers with mash plus a load of Heinz Baked Beans on top. Mash and beans are a great combination, they really are!
God I'm hungry now lol.

It's not so cheap and cheerful but if you have all the ingredients to hand..it's very easy to do, which is the best part.
If you do try it let me know if you like it my friend.

Cheddar cheese grated onto the beans is heavenly. Trust me! The way it all melts together..well, it doesn't get much better than that.
We tend to use white bread as brown bread doesn't toast as well. So there you go, you're all set now!

I have never had baked beans on toast. The picture makes it look ok but I really dont think it is something that I would like. I would think that the beans would make the toast soggy and I wouldnt like that. The only beans I eat are vegetarian beans. I went to buy refried beans at our local store and they didnt have any I was pretty upset about that as they are so good.

MMMM that would comfort me in a flash, but I would also add some small chop onions on top to spice it up a bit.

I do like onions as a flavouring BUT if I see them in my food I have to take them out! Strange but true!
Nice idea though.
