A funny thing happened on the way to the waiting room...

Actually, it happened in the waiting room, but ANYWAY... So, as I've spoken about yesterday, the roomie went to the hospital for gall bladder surgery today. I was talking with the other lady in the waiting room when her surgeon came in and talked to her about her husband. I looked... I took a second look... I know him! I thought. I waited until he was getting ready and I said: "Dr. G..." (insert name here) He turned, then grinned - he might not have recognized me, but he KNEW that HAT! This was the roomie's foot doctor when she was having all the trouble with her foot last year and the year before. We chatted for a moment before he went rushing off. That's the second time I've run into a doc I knew at a hospital, but the other time we were there because my sister had broken her foot and our eye doctor came into the ER. I guess its not unlike the time I ran into the judge I knew when I was at the courthouse for another case. How about you? see people in unexpected places?

LOL. Your story sounds like one of those daytime shows where mo matter what the problem the same hospital doctor attends to the problem. I used to work for a very nice man who lives on the other dude if the city from me. We both exercise by walling and both often walk into the city as part of that. I can go weeks and not see him and then meet him every day for a week. We both say that it seems like we see more of each other now than when we worked together!

Very true, except he was operating on the lady's husband's foot, and we knew him because he was taking care of the roomie's foot problems. Now, the roomie's doctor and her foot doctor were in the same office building, just other sides of the building.

Alice - the problem is that I write from my iPod and sometimes my fingers hit the wrong key. I should check more carefully. Join a walking club or even look at your local gym and see if someone needs a walking partner.

I was at Walmart a few weeks ago and I swear there was a woman running around in her jammies! they even MATCHED top and bottom and they were UGLY!!!

A friend had sent me an email with pictures of people who shop at Wamlart... ugly jammies were the least offensive...

I was at a single parent group many years ago and I thought I saw my doctor there i went over and it turns out it was his brother. He politely brushed me off

My husband and I ran into a lady who used to live in the mobile home park where we were managers 30 years ago at our local WalMart recently. Guess that's not so strange. We're always running into someone at WalMart.

I would NOT recognize someone from 30 years ago! But I'm terrible with faces and names!

I really don't get out much, but I kept running into my mom's physical therapist at Hobby Lobby! I did it TWICE! A long time ago my vet clinic used to have more people and I once ran into one of the techs at one of the live theaters (as opposed to a movie theater) with my mom.

I saw my teacher once in a night club dancing her heart out. She's a hot momma, everyone of my classmates knew that. Although everyone also knew that she was a conservative woman, guess we were wrong. I approached her on the dance floor then. She recognized me and started grinding her thing on me. It felt weird but it felt hot all at one time.

I bet it felt weird, I'd be afraid that might make me lose respect for her... but I'm not a guy.

Actually there have been times when I have been somewhere and run into someone I knew quite a while ago and it is odd to see them there, especially if it has been quite a few yrs. as well. Sometimes I am Happy to see them and want to talk for awhile as well. I guess for me it would not be a shock in a hospital setting unless it was a Doctor I thought had moved on, etc. instead.

I just didn't expect to see a doctor I knew! Seeing doctors at a hospital isn't strange, but seeing one you KNOW... that's something else rather like seeing my sister's eye doc (actually, he was the family eye doctor) that Sunday morning in the ER (he was coming in to see a patient upstairs - but he did stop and check her eye that she had had surgery on a few months before.

I live in a small town, I run into people I know everywhere. We only have one hospital. Plus I have met lots of doctors from other cities nearby. What I find interesting is when I am an hour away from my city and find people that I know, or I go to Oklahoma and follow a vehicle back that I know from here in town. And they usually at least recognize me.

Small towns are a different kettle of fish ain't they? Austin is the 15th largest city in the U.S. now, but since I pretty much stay north, and even in a fairly small area OF the north part of town, in some ways it still seems smallish. I think there are 8 hospitals in town, I think, mind you... but this one isn't exactly the one they rush most emergencies to. I do think that the roomie's clinic does most of their surgeries there. I know the docs my doctor refers me to mostly seem to be at St. Davis or the main Seton. I'll have to remember this one, tho, can't be as busy as the other ERs...

I was at the cafe with an old buddy of mine, when the owner came up to our table. She took one look at my friend, and then they started talking. Turns out they had worked at the same company 30 years ago!!!

I was sitting waiting for someone at the supermarket one day when I spotted my vet. I said hello not expecting him to know me and expecting a blank look and a courteous nod. But no, he smiled, said a friendly "Hello" and after chatting about the weather he asked me how my goat was. I've liked him from the first so this made me feel good but I think it's part of his charm. He is just a genuinely nice man.

I ran into one of my vets at a party... I "friended" the guy who held the party last year on facebook and asked if he still saw them and he hadn't lately. Next time I went to the vet I told them I had chatted with "R" on facebook and they said they hadn't seen him in a while and were surprised to hear where he was living now

Actually... I saw someone I knew from LETS (which imploded a couple years ago from lack of energy in anyone to run it). It happened in an out-of-town-for-both-of-us Value Village. But, back to your story... You spend way too much time at the hospital. Of course you're going to run into someone you know there.

I was waiting for my luggage at Burbank airport once when I ran into my rheumatologist coming out of the terminal. And I ran into a co-worker in Las Vegas, and a customer at the San Diego Wild Animal Park...

I‘ve had instances where I keep seeing the same person at different places. Around five years ago I met a young mum at the playground in McDonalds while our children played. Coincidentally our girls are the same age so we chatted for a while and the kids played together. We didn’t become friends or anything but I keep running into her in shopping centres which are not necessarily near where we originally met! It is a little strange and I wonder if I am supposed to talk to her again…Maybe I will...

I literally live in a one hospital town. All the doctors in town know everyone who's ever had a loved one be a patient in that hospital or ever had a doctor who did set of rounds in that hospital. I also did a stint as a volunteer in that hospital, so yes, I'm always bumping into acquaintances in and out of the hospital. ~ What's really weird is when you bump into them in the grocery store in the egg isle or the All-You-Can-Eat Restaurant in town.

Small towns are different, but Austin is now the 15th largest city in the U.S. I do agree that running into your doctor at the quicky mart is different than running him at a hospital (yes, that happened tome once!)

hello EB, This happens to me at work. I was in the our office pantry when i saw this young guy,and he smiled at me. I look back to see if he is smiling to other person at my back or side or near me,but no one is there as i was sitting all alone. I just smiled back (wondering). Then, the next day,i am with my team mates having lunch in our office pantry when this young man again smiled at me,and then one of my team mates called him. He sits with us and have his lunch too. Out of curiosity i asks him "have we met before? " He said "no mam,but we are neighbors. Hey,we are neighbors but we haven't met? (funny) okay, the young man says..yes,we are neighbors, and i happen to pass by in your house everyday going here in our office and i also saw you preparing to go (oh my) Oh,really?.. (i just couldn't believed) So,the next days,i have him hitched whenever my son drives me to our office (funny thing huh...we are neighbors and now officemates) have a great day
