We Hindus observe so many festivals, almost each day is kind of festival. The festivals are observed on days based upon Hindu calendar, so it will not fall on the SAME day every year. Shivaratri is usually observed in the month of February/March, in 2010 dates were February 12–13 but in 2011 dates is March 2-3. It is observed by Hindus in general and Shaivites in particular. Hindu calendar is based upon phases of moon. For details see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maha_Shivaratri In my family we observe by fasting, and worship of Lingam in Shiva temples. My daughter in law and son are observing fasting. Because of health issues, me and my wife are not fasting, but we had been to temple near our home early morning, there was a one kilometer long queue, other temples in city has longer queues. What about your festivals this month or in near future? Do they fall on same date? How you observe? Please share your opinion in this matter.Professor ‘Bhuwan’. . Cheers have a lucky day ahead.

Here we observe many festival too.We number the years with the Gregorian calendar and lunar calendar. In the lunar calendar the traditional festivals all have fixed date, for example, the Dragon Boat Festival is the 5th day of the 5th lunar month;the Mid-autumn Festival is 15th day of the 8th lunar month, etc.but in the Gregorian calendar their dates vary from year to year.
