After the door to door, it was determinted that my brother who is stuck in a wheelchair met the poverty criteria to get him trailer fixed. They put in a white pile carpet, white pile, I kid you not for a person in a wheelchair. The carpet was donated. OK, that explains that. Now explain this. They replaced his windows, upside down. All of them upside down. How does a person in a wheelchair, paralized from the waist down, open windows from the top? He had to call people on 80 degree days to open the windows and when the sun went down and the outdoors became 60 degrees or less, he had to call people to shut the windows. Eventually, before fall, they were able to get back to him and put the windows right side up because by then, some of them were falling down whenever the temps changed, but in reverse of the need. Heat expands so they wanted to stay up and cold contracts so they wanted to fall down. So he was calling us every time we turned around. We had to try to find ways to try to brace the dumb things without breaking (sending boards through) the windows. This is our government and it's here to help you. Don't even wonder why we're having trouble getting out of the recession. They can't even figure out which end of a window is up. Now his windows are correct and the carpet is a serious mess. So has the government tried to help you? Was their help as ridiculous as this? Was it more or less stupid than this? I have other stupid stories like the $10 a month they wanted to give my brother the construction worker for food stamps after his unemployment ran out.

Wow, I'm surprised they didn't do anything like add in a nice staircase for your brother... Poor guy, having to call people to open and shut windows..This is a prime example why people who have work done on their car or home should be allowed to supervise. My husband supervises whenever he can't do the work himself, because people do the dumbest things..

No, they told him he had to leave and they probably put the carpet in at the same time as they put in the windows. I hate it when workmen think you're in the way.

I wouldn't have left, but then again they probably wouldn't do the work since it was government funded.. I remember when we were trying to sell our house and since we were still living here, people came through while we were home. One time this guy asked if we could leave and we were going to, but couldn't and when I saw who it was, I immediately knew why. It was the idiot neighbor across the lake that complained when our dog barked. He and two other neighbors were chipping in to buy our home, fortunately the mortgage company turned them down because they didn't offer enough..(I said mortgage company because they were trying to foreclose)

I can remember getting $10 a month when I lived alone for about a year. It payed for my milk for the month and that is about all. THey have guidelines. I make too much now to get foodstamps yet can't afford to live. Does that make sense? But if I have my daughter with or anything to due with another child then we get about $60.

Have you reapplied? Some places they've increased the amounts for food stamps and changed the guidelines. Some areas lower middle class can get food stamps and some poor people can get as much as $200 for a household. So ask if anything has changed and if it's worth your time to reapply. My brother was denied many times, but his medicine for diabetes is really killing him financially, so this last time he really did well with getting food stamps. If she's due to have another child, can she get WIC or am I reading the last line wrong?

Oh, I know you have experience. We were surprised that suddenly there was money in NY State. I'm not sure right now because my brother worked construction again and lost all benefits. So he'll have to reapply. He thinks they'll either tell him no or offer him $10 bucks again. The food stamp soap opera continues on.

Every six months! The $10 was about fifteen years ago. My granddaughter gets WIC but you can only get it until the child is five years old. The info I gave is my experience not whats going on right now.

Nothing like that has ever happened, but there is a certain highway in Wyoming that the locals call the "Ho Chi Mihn" trail because the government insisted that it go straight up a mountain, rather than twisting a little to minimize the grade. When it snows, the highway is always the first one closed and the last one opened... those highway planners in Washington never saw snow or a mountain, but hey, they're the experts.

"Zoned to Stupid" You should write a book. The ridiculous part and often the sad part is that this entire country is run by "experts" who don't know the first thing about the things they create the rules for.

I like zoned to stupid. Maybe the "experts" are in the stupid zone. Thanks and take care.

Its good that he has gotten this help the new carpet and windows but the carpet was probably a bad idea for someone in a wheelchair and putting the windows in upside down is just pathetic lol. How in the world did they not notice that. They have to be some pretty bad carpenters for that to happen.

Yes, I think you're right. Too bad it wasn't the type of window that you can open on the top and bottom, but we wouldn't be that lucky. What is weird is how consistantly wrong they were. They put every one of them in upside down. You would think they would put ONE in, try it, then put the rest in. But can't be they even tried to open the windows, that I can't even fathum. Thanks and take care,
