What do you do if you cannot have electricity?

If there's electricity cut, there will be more neighbors chatting at the doorway, and I can meet more walkers along the road, for they have nothing to do after supper. There was no electricity before I got up this morning, and the whole day I couldn't get online.Nowadays the most boring time must be those days that we can't have electricity!Don't you think so?

Absolutely, there will be so much lounging around. People then talk to each other, the family, the neighbours while on a regular day, some people just walk past. But then again, it's not such a bad thing if it happens nationally. If it's only a local occurrence, some clients or buyers, if you're in a business, just don't understand that and demand that jobs or projects are still done properly regardless. Sometimes when there's a power cut, I take it as a time to take a time off. Power cut has been more regular nowadays with weather extremes. I think we should invest on alternative power. I'm thinking about a universal solar charger, a small unit of solar power, and cranked tools.

Yes,we can see that power cut is a big problem to us all, especially the cut that happens without a notification well in advance.Good luck!

Well it just hampers some important tasks that we have to do but I don't find it boring. Actually it would just be okay with me because I will have a reason to take a break from work. It's just I can't help myself but work in front of the computer if there's electricity so it's good I think to have it out for once in a while. We just usually play some games or chat around and enjoy the benefits of the brownout.

What you responded told me that we confront power cut once in a while is quite good, that can drive us away from the computers to bond with your families or friends.

Without electricity there's more loss and less profits...

Yes that's what I mean but I guess for once in a while only because many will be affected if it always happens or for long periods of time as almost everything today is powered by electricity.

That would be a bore. I also cannot live without electricity and there were times when the whole region was suffering from shortage of it and we have to ratio the electricity and have to have scheduling. It used to be 2 hours with and 2 hours without and it was hell. we cannot even do our work here in the office plus at home there was nothing else to do after eating except sit and talk or wait for the light to be back or go to sleep which at times is impossible since it is still as early as 7 in the eve! it was soooo crazy but then we still survived and its now back to normal.

typo, I believe. The comment meant to say "ration", not "ratio"

You had to ratio the electricity?I've never heard of that before, but it's good that you can have electricity now.We all hope there's enough electricity for us,but sometimes it's impossible.

If you have an unreliable electricity supply that you pay good money for, why not build your own electricity supply? Then you can ring up the electricity company & get the service cut & pay them nothing. Most alternative means of generating your own electricity cost more to set up & maintain than the tiny little bit of power they deliver to you. I have found a way that you can build your own generator for next to nothing, often from bits of junk you have lying around anyway & have free 24/7 online support while you build it, test it & build many more models. Over three thousand members from all over the world have built, tested & published their findings online. It has been running since 2006 established by a patented invention which has been running since 1984 & begun in about 1973. It furthers the work of Nikola Tesla & his experiments in Colorado Springs at the turn of the last century. http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/Bedini_Monopole3 Or you can buy a kit of parts from: http://r-charge.com/ For further reading, try Tom Bearden's or John Bedini's books from a big library near you or buy them from: http://cheniere.org/ Stop bemoaning your fate & start building your way out of it!

Wow,that's really a great idea. But I don't know the first thing about the skills of generating electricity, and I'm not rich enough, when will I make it?But thank you for your advice!

You don't have to be either rich nor knowledgeable. An eleven year old New Zealand school girl built a working model in 2004 before the detailed info we now have even came out. It costs virtually nothing & you may already have most of the parts lying around the house. It should take about a day to build & get running; why not start today?

In a way this wouldn't bother me so much. Aslong as i can give my son some food (cereal can be eaten cold so no electricity needed) and take him to nursery and aslong as i can grab something to eat while on my way to work i don't mind the electricity being down. However, if this was to happen at night then i would call round to a family members close by as i have a load and eat there, i like to make sure that my son and me do get to eat some hot food, it just means that i will be without things like the internet and tv, so i guess it means i will just have an early bed and i would hope to catch up on some sleep.

I guess that any problems can strike at any time, without us knowing in advance so it is best to really be prepared for everything and to have some form of plan just incase anything was to happen, it is all about organization.

in my place, bottled water is more expensive than a premium gasoline. and water is more devastating than fire... see what tsunami has done not only to japan but to other countries along the pacific rim.

Heck no. Life is never boring. There are many, many jobs I can do that don't need electricity. The worst time for a blackout is at night but I have candles and torches so I can still tidy up, do the dishes and then read a book. Power outs don't make me stop.

If no electricity I would go in search of some. I have work to do online so I really need to get online. I don't know what i will do if I every lose electricity or in case of the halocost. That could really be ugly unless I learn how to use a generator. I may have to look that up. Could be a good thing to know.

I think you should have had a generator,or your computer should have been sold or broken unless there's never power outage for you.Have fun!

Hiya six, No electricity well make the best I can of what time I have. I would have to make them sandwiches and something else like fruit and milk to go with it for their Dinner not so bothered about myself in that sense. Would also spend a bit of time cleaning those things that get left behind when we are so busy having to chase after what the others in the House want. I would not have time to be chatting downstairs not until I have finished doing all my Jobs. If there is no television go to sleep a bit earlier and that´s it really. What else can you do?

Wow, this is something worthwhile to think about. What is there's no more electricity? We'd be back in the stone age and will be building fire. In my area, we would sometimes get electricity outage and when that happens, I would probably go to the nearest mall (provided of course the electricity outage doesn't affect the mall) because it would be so hot to be staying indoors at home since I live in a country that is near the equator, it's hot every day here in the day unless of course when it's raining. And when that happens, my worry is my house might get flooded. Problems, problems. Endless problems.
• China

That's a smart way to go to the mall nearby when we cannot have electricity, and sometimes I do that, too in summer.

Hi Oldsix. No I don't think it is boring to be without electricity. That gives us time to do more important things than sitting online not knowing who our neighbors are. I know how it is to be without electricity but not just because a line is down. When I lived in GA we didn't have electricity we had a generator and was only able to run it when we needed electric power to do something. Oh well what did they do before electricity was invented? They got out in the yard and worked and met people. Now days you hardly ever see someone outside working in their yards. Hope you have a great day my friend. Good discussion.

Hi Oldsix. It would push us to be more active if we didn't have electricity. Who knows the world might be a lot different if all the modern convinces had been invented.

Life without electricity will not be as poor as a life without the fresh water. When there isn't any electricity, I can make myself to be busy in those works which do not need the electricity. For instance, I shall house keeping my place and be ready to start my normal work once the electricity returns. I can drive and travel to other place where I can get electricity. Without electricity, our life will be very inconvenient. It might spoil our plan in our life.

Yes,if we cannot use water,we cannot live normally, but if we can't have electricity,it's only inconvenient for us.we mustn't complain too much about power outage.

Same here, most of us will be out on the corridor talking, chatting among each other. Some younger generation people will be on the phone talking to friends, tellign them about what happened while complaining about when the electricity is going to be back, so that they can continue with their facebook. As for the kids and children, they should be the happiest of all because they need not do your homework, yet get to play with the neighbours.

When it happens that I don't have electricity, I just read a book or stare. That is my laptop isn't out of battery power. If I feel like it, I go out for a bit. It's very boring to spend a day or even a few hours with electricity.

whenever there's no electricity, I just clean the house, do whatever I can do and sleep all day. Sleeping is so much fun. Haha! But yeah, it's boring sometimes when there's no electricity especially if I can't go online because I love blogging. I sold my laptop so I have to use desktop now.

My electric seems to go out a lot. It doesn't really bother me when it does, as long as it's not for too long! If it is cold out, then the furnace doesn't work, and that can be a pain. If it is at night, I use candles or a flashlight or if it is late, I just go to bed. I read and sleep more I guess. I feel that if our ancestors could live like that all of the time we should be able to last a few hours. The only things I worry about are the furnace and the food in the refrigerator.

Oh, this is the time for ghost story telling. My father used this trick when we are growing up so not to let my elder brothers slip out of the house and join their friends outside for play in the moonlight. Yes, we are all excited to hear those scary tales of Aswang, Multos and Dwarfs. Now, if ever there's a brownout, I used this trick too to my child to have her stick with my side and let her sleep earlier than her bedtime.

Your dad's so smart and you've learned that way to stop your child from slipping out! When your child grows up,he or she will use those ghost stories to scare the kids?Hehe,I don't think it's easy to get to sleep.

apparently you are a very hang it all on technology and electricity. and of course without electricity, yours stuff just be junk, right? well, dont worry. because there are still many poor countries are not very disrupted when electricity is not there. they have never known electricity. but life went on and sometimes, the light of the moon and small torches is enough for dinner and read a book before bed. they only argue boredom with a sense of gratitude to the divine because it was given the opportunity to undergo today.
