I saw this on the back page of an ad for Ulta and it caught my eye. I was wondering what kind of curl this does or doesn't get a person? Or really in general what a tapered barrel does that a standard barrel doesn't? Not that I have $50 for the one advertised, but just curious.

I almost got one but then looked closer and there is no clamp on it, so you just have to hold your strand of hair and wrap it around the iron (or twist the iron around your hair). But in the end, you are left with holding that little end of your hair, which doesn't curl it or anything and just lets that little end stick out oddly.
But I saw another one that I got...and am taking back. I did have the clamp at the end near the handle. The problem with that one is that the clamp is so short, about1,1/2 inch long. That doesn't hold hair very well, so it pulls out and then you can roll the iron. To keep the hair in the clamp you can only use a slight bit of hair, maybe 1/2 worth, and even then...if not placed exactly perfectly, it gets caught in the clamp hinge. FAR more trouble than it is worth, at least to me.

Sounds like it's quite the hassel as well. Especially like you said the clamp is either missing or useless if there is one. But you know to be so expensive it better be easy to use and give you good results KWIM?

hi 3SnugleBunnies fifty dollars wow. thats sort of expensive for one
tapered curling iron.it probably makes different size curls. I had an electric curling iron bu t never used it really. just once and it seemed to dry out my already dry hair. so now I use Tousle Me softly by Clariols Herbal essence and it gives just the right amount of curl in my hair. It also always smells so good as they use herbs, all natural. I love my Herbal Essence and use nothing else.I used some tonight and trembled
as this was my first shower by myself since that bad fall day after
Valentines day. but I was very careful to hang onto handholds and it
felt so good to have clean hair and shower by myself. My herbal Essence tousle me Softly only costs about four dollars in Walmart much cheaper than fifty . wow.

I've never heard of it. That may be a nice idea of something to use... is it also for people who naturally have waves? My only problem like anything is the kids would find it and use it as bubble bath.

That's a thought too. A multi use ie type of curl all in one barrel.

I found the tapered iron easier to use than the ones with the clamps. You just wrap pieces of hair around the barrel until you get to the end of your hair. Now i saw somewhere that to get the same effect, you can just use a regular curling iron with a clamp and wrap the hair around the outside.

My understanding is that it produces a wavier look as oppose to the standard tight curl.
