A few days ago when i was walking my dog early in the morning ,I saw a pitbull dog along with a boxer dog coming out of the gate of a house. The owner of that house haven't closed their gate at night. That pitbull jumped on to my dog which is a Pomeranian.I thought both me and my dog are going to get bitten all over. There was not a single person on the road also.I shouted aloud at that dog and pretended that i was going to beat it up..and that dog ran away like a scared cat!So did the boxer. Both me and my dog together weighed 50kg and that boxer alone would have weighed around 50kg. I feel like all dogs, however big they are, are scared of human!

I don't believe the dogs were afraid of you because you were humane but rather the fact that the energy and confidence you protrude scared them. Hope your little pom wasn't hurt at all as i had this happen with my pom once we went around a corner and chow jumped on him ever since when we walk around blind corners he walks behind me

That's what i mean.If you don't try to run away from dogs that come to attack you ,most dogs wouldn't bite you..I think it is because dog's think twice to attack humans.

i dont believe it has much to do with us being humane as i said but the energy we protrude i have seen dogs go after a cat before and the cat turns around with no fear and go's right after them and they run away the same. My dogs are scared of my bird who is rather small and its just because she is all confidence

I don't think so. Just be careful next time because dogs are unpredictable. They might look scared but others jump on you and bite you. In some worst cases, they will rip you off! That's more scary...

yeah i know that. That is why i am going keep stones on all my pockets when i walk my dog.If any dog attack my dog then i will pretend that i am going to throw stones at it.Then it will run away i guess.

Maybe some will ran away. But SOME will get more angry. So be careful always.

I think the fact that you shouted and pretended you were going to beat it up helped a lot. The dog probably considered you to be the alpha or whatever. If an animal thinks you are superior in any way, it will show respect or fear. If you would have shown weakness, you probably would have been attacked. I'm not sure if there is any fact to this, but it seems to make sense to me.

I was thinking that larger dogs weren't afraid of humans.I feel surprised to see bigger dogs getting scared and running away.

I don't think that dogs are not that afraid of humans but they will react depending on the situation they are into just like us humans. If you show them fear they will bark at you or worst attack you. But if you show superiority they will hold back and flinch.

ya a person who haven't raised a dog will be scared when he sees a larger dog in front of him,and get bitten as well.

You shouted menacingly right? Along with your actions of beating it up it is enough to scare a dog away because the dog may be big, but hey, you're tall and towering above it ^^ Or maybe the dog wasn't trying to bite you guys or something, but rather showing friendliness by jumping at you guys. Another theory could be that his owner is abusive and so when you yell or make beating up motions it's scared because it's happened to him before? That's sad to think about but it happens often. It's hard to tell like this but I'm glad you and your dog is unharmed (:

I think the dog did try to bite my dog because it is that dog's territory and dog's dont want other dogs in their territory.Wolves are said to be shy when they are around human.Since dogs are evolved from wolf they might also be scared of human,i think, even if they are huge and ferocious. They bite someone only if they enter their territory or try to run away from them.

Hello Ravi, For dogs, it doesn't matter the size of their opponent. Haven't you seen a small dog attacking a larger dog? The pitbul didn't run away because he was scared of people, he run because you were so determined to protect your little friend! There is a posibility that the pitbull was beaten before and he knew from his experience that if you make some particular gesture (like pretending to beat him up) it will be followed by a real beating. The boxer run because he probably was a follower in their little pack. If the alpha dog run, the follower should have been follow him right away.

yeah, dogs don't care about the size of the opponent if the opponent is a dog.But if it is a human they most probably won't attack. There are lots of stray dogs in my place, and some of them try to attack my dog, but when they see me they just run away.Earlier i was thinking that large dogs weren't scared of human but i felt surprised to see a pitbull run away.
