My grandmother has had glaucoma for many years, she uses eye drops and she sees an eye doctor 4 times a year. The regular visits to the eye doctor are important, because the eye pressure might change and she has to follow the development of the illness. If you ignore the illness you can get blind. That happened to my great-grandfather's sister. She didn't see an eye doctor when she started to get problems and now she is totally blind. My ex-boyfriend also had glaucoma, but his illness was a rare kind of illness, because he got it as a child. Most people who get glaucoma are older than my ex-boyfriend.

No, glaucoma is not an inflamation of the optic nerve, it is rather a chronic, progressive optic neuropathy caused by a group of ocular conditions which lead to damage of the optic nerve with loss of visual function. The most common risk factor is a raised intraocular pressure. If not diagnosed and treated properly, the sufferer may become blind in the long run.

The puff test that they do when you go to the optometrist is the test for glaucoma. I've had family members that have suffered from this disorder and because of the fact that they suffered from this, I also came to know that it is also associated with diabetes. What I mean by saying this is that if you suffer from diabetes you are more likely to suffer from glaucoma. I would encourage everyone to make sure that they are tested for this disease every time they go to the optometrist.

What I knew of glaucoma is it is cause by too much pressure in the eye. If there's pressure build up in the eye, the retina becomes weak and degenerates and therefore fail to function well. Glaucoma is a blinding disease and must be treated immediately. usually the old people suffer from this illness of the eye. Now while we are still young, we must take care of our eyes, it is the foremost sense that we need to enjoy this beautiful world we're in.
