I was reading another MyLot discussion about customer service, and one poster responded with this silly site http://notalwaysright.com as I spent a good few hours chuckling over some of the things customers said! Okay, back to myself, and I scarcely knew anything about computers, in fact it was during the time I owned my first computer. I have just learned about viruses, and I have gotten a Trojan on my computer, so I called customer support wondering what was going on. Silly me asked him after he's helped me if there were viruses that would make my computer explode!!! Oh gosh I'm completely embarrassed as I think back on it but at the same time it's hilarious! The support guy said very reassuringly and professionally that no, it's nothing to do with hardware, just software that destroys the computer's functions. I can just imagine he let out a loud guffaw as soon as he hanged up the phone, tee hee!

I think that we've all been down that road. Trust me, all I knew back when I started was viruses were bad and it was something that I did not want them on my computer. Then again, computer customer service people most likely had to deal with inquiries that were far more absurd than yours. There are people out there who used their disc drives as a drink cup holder. Still yeah, I think that customer service really can be amusing from both ends and also frustrating. The good representatives have to put up with all sorts, but if you get stuck with a person who does not really know what they are doing, because they are just there for a paycheck, then that can be an even more amusing problems. Still the good thing about computers is that anyone can use them, but that could be the bad thing as well.

well, disc drives being used as cup holders aren't as extreme as computers blowing up due to a virus! *blush* The guy I was speaking with sounded very understanding and patient, so he was far from a jerk, but still, I can almost hear him laughing as soon as he hung up the phone! :-p

He might have taken it as a joke too, who knows. It sounded like you were making a joke, at least.

Yes, and now you have learned enough about it that you can even laugh at yourself.

I grew up hating computers, wary of'em, just needed one to keep in touch with email and do research, got into trouble, now I'm back to hating'em again. Now, is my laptop gonna explode after I admitted the blasphemous "I hate computers"?
