I have been getting Dr. Ben Kim's Natural Health Newsletter through the email for several months now. His information is so interesting and chuck full of great tips. This last one was on Sprains and strains that can happen as a result of poor blood circulation in the ligaments and muscles that surround the spinal column. My daughter is having major trouble with her back right now. She has put on some added weight over the Winter and I think that is PART of the problem. But this newsletter go on to say that people should not do any stretching and so forth until a person has done some heavy exercise and gotten their blood pumping. They say it is best to do stretches and such later in the day. I thought this was very interesting since alot of people do early morning exercises and work also. I always started with stretchs. Here is the link to the newsletter: http://drbenkim.com/stretches-for-spine.htm Be sure to read the last few paragraphs. What do you think?

I don't really like reading a whole bunch(getting late now); but, I'll say this much: dynamic stretching at the beginning-static stretching at the end. Dynamic stretching being more like "limbering up", slow moving stretches(rolling your shoulders, swinging your arms, doing slow squats, etc) Static is where you do as little movement as possible and hold a position(holding a position where you touch your toes). Static stretching is considered more to be an actual workout, instead of a warm-up.

That is very interesting. I would have thought stretching at any time would help prevent sprains or strains. I think there are a lot of people thay actually do stretches in the morning to get woke up and going.

I found it very interesting too. It makes sense. The last bit was most interesting to me.

sound reasonable sort of like the oil in your car needs to warm up to lubrcatethe motor so your blood needs tobe warmed up before ya strech

hi celticEagle I had some bad advice about stretc hing from some rather silly pamphelet and did these stretching exercises before my exercise routine. I got up and oh my the pain in my legs. I went to my primary card doctor who sent me to an orthopedic'doctor who said I had partial tendon tears. He sent me to physical therapists who used sound waves and mild exercises to repari the damage. i showed him the exercies and he said they should have been shot to advice those for a warm up. running in place or some brisk walking first would have been sufficient but not those harsh stretching exercises that actually partly'tore tendons in my legs.

There sure is and it gets very frustrating. About the time you have a routine or regime they come out with something new and different and it changes everything.

That would have been nice to know years ago when I was taking martial arts, we always started with stretching. This info has been out for a while now. Take care
