Where is Elic?

Why hasn't Elic been responding to discussions or responses to her discussions? Well, the fact is that I'm STILL having internet problems. Unlike before, it isn't affecting the computer that is hardwired to the modem, that means its affecting only the wireless connection. AND... It is affecting both of the computer hooked up to the wireless router. Yes, its password protected. Yes, we have good antennii... so we don't quite know what is going on. But I've been trying to respond all evening to discussions/and responses, and I've almost finished reading my book! So, until we figure out what is going on... or replace the router... I just may not be here as much as ANY of us would like! Don't ya know, while I was working it was working FINE! The roomie thinks someone is "blasting" our connection and maybe we need another router - those things get expensive if we have to replace them annually! So, do you have problems with your connection if you are wireless? Don't ask me to use my phone, I can't type that fast with my thumbs!

Ahh yes... the wonderful problem of internet connection. We have had several times that our internet failed but it has never been our modem. our modem has never given us any trouble. Our main problem is our internet company. They seem to go down at least 10 times a year and when the internet goes down it goes down for a few days usually. I would go to another provider but the problem is where I am at there is no other choice really in internet providers. So I just have to stick with mine. Hope ya get it all worked out so you can be on ever more very soon!

I have several choices, but Time Warner does the best job, well, most of the time I really think this isn't their problem anymore, but a local (neighborhood) problem now

Uh oh... and I bet that would be VERY difficult to deal with. As you would have to some how find out what the "outside" source is thats causing the problem. Well... good luck and I hope you figure it out.

Reset your router. There is a small button there somewhere where you need to insert a pin to reset it. If that doesn't work, update your router. Good luck!

actually, we have reset it a LOT! and I'm sure the geek, who was here on Monday would've done that, she throttled down the packet rate, somehow Mind you, I don't have a CLUE exactly what she did, but we are beginning to suspect someone (not intentionally) is interfering with our signal.

oohhh! signal problem. it could be microwave, wireless phones, tv, radio, it could be anything! anyway, try changing the location of the modem and see if there are aay improvements.

sadly, we really can't The cable runs into the house where it is and the modem has to be by the work computer so the roomie's work computer can be hardwired to it AND it needs to be where its safe from the cats (tho we do have a couple in that room now)

i don't have wireless anything for reasons like that. a lot of people have told me their wireless products seize for no reason sometimes,or just plain don't work at all.

we use it because we have enough wires running thru the house without those extra ones - if I could wirelessly power everything in the house it would be GREAT!

Are your computers claiming there is no internet connection? That they can't find a signal? Or that they don't even have wireless capability? If so, it may be either that the wireless cards or adapters have gone bad or, more likely, that the drivers have become corrupted or accidentally deleted (something I recently did to my own computer). Try downloading new drivers for the wireless cards you have in both computers (or reinstalling the hardware using the original disks) to see if that works (or asking your techy friend if he can update the drivers or troubleshoot the wireless cards. I had done a cleanup of excess and unused files on my hard drive a few weeks ago and inadvertently deleted ALL the drivers for sound, touchpad, wireless adapter and a few other things. It took a while, but I did get them back after finally locating my old wireless adapter whose driver apparently remained intact. That's why you may need your friend to help since you can't get online to download the drivers like I did. Good luck!!

No flooding here. And, we're about 1500 feet from the river. I did learn there was some major flooding in North Jersey and all around Philly, but we don't have foothills around us, so don't get the massive runoff that they do. Ours, when it happens, is mostly backed up storm drains. Of course, in theory it could happen. But, so far, so good.

Well ya can be sure it's not I who's "blasting" you (I've never even heard that term...what's it mean, anyway?); I AM The Anti-Tech, remember? So far as I can tell, demented fairies run computers! You know I don't believe in "luck," but if there's a saint dedicated to helping with computers, it's probably St. Jude--patron saint for impossible cases! no, in fact, the ONLY time I can really check my mail is at your house, and I don't want to sign you off mylot to post there, because... well, because I'm SUPPOSED to be WORKING! And its not fairies, there are tiny little men who carry packets of information around, and if they get overloaded they go on strike... I think...

@ElicBxn, why are you asking where you are? Are you supposed to be solving all the internet problems in here? Are you also another admin or mod? From what you were saying, have you tried to reset the router? It might refresh the memory. I had similar problems some time ago, and that's what the ISP told me to do. Hope it helps. And yes, Hello to you.

Wow Elic You are having a lot of Problems with it lately I can understand what you are saying about the Router, see we get it supplied from the Internet provider so if anything goes wrong they sort it or send out a new one free of charge We do not pay extra for this it is part of the service I hope that you can get this sorted

Well, we have picked up a router from Time Warner, but, apparently, it isn't the best one and our Buffalo is better, but not if it is getting kicked off line all the time Mind you, I've been on just fine for several hours now, we are beginning to suspect someone is blasting us off line with a more powerful router...

you see, we have 3 computers and don't want to have to hardwire all of them - so we wireless the 2 so they can be remote (as in our rooms rather than together.)

Shortly after I began using my first router I started to experience problems. I rang the router manufacturer help desk and a chappy in India..(speaking with an American accent)spent several hours working with me to reset my router. It was a problem he had not encountered previously and it would work for a bit then go back to malfunctioning. It took us 3 days on and off but eventually we reached a satisfactory connection. He was very agreeable and easy to talk to and it seemed really important to him to stick around till I was ok with my router. I was very impressed with the service. I thought the calls would cost me but no, there was no charge to me whatsoever.

That's cool - better than the Indian guy that told the roomie to reformat her computer because of a printer problem - turned out the printer problem was because the instructions said "remove the orange tabs" and she's color blind...

well, yes and no... we have our geek friend and she's taught the roomie a few things, I generally get bored and let the roomie teach me them... if I need to know Still, it can be trying when the power goes off - like on the cold morning of the great cat escape we had "rolling blackouts" that they CLAIMED were because of the power draw, but that was a LIE, we have a lot higher usage on the electricity in the summer!

Hi. ElicBxn. I am sorry that you are experiencing problems with your wireless connection. I have been having problems with my Internet connection too. Sometimes it would take so long for my Internet connection to load up quickly. And, the pages don't submit as they should either. We have a Broadband connection that acts up when it wants to, too. I hope that you will be able to be back at myLot once your issue has been resolved.

well, I'm on, off and on, it seems to be going swimmingly right now, but next thing I know I may be kicked off again! I'm trying to be here as I can be, but its also so pretty outside that I want to spend some time out there, and, don't you know, when it gets dark is when we start having problems again.

Computer problems are so frustrating! I know because I ‘had more than my share and it has usually resulted in having to spend money I don’t have! Check online for a router, sometimes they can be picked up a little cheaper. I don’t blame you for not wanting to use your phone, it’s far too tiny, and I hate it! I hope you will be back online as you want to soon at no expense to you. Good luck.

because of our cable plan, we can get a cable company router, but it isn't as good as the one we have, I went by and picked one up, and if need be, the geek will switch them out!

I have been wondering if Elic had been taken prisoner...lol...j/k...I have been pretty busy and haven't been able to spend near as much time here as I like. Nothing worse than internet problems...super frustrating! I was actually strating to think that my last bout with internet problems was my router too. I've has it for a while now. It was that water in the line thing. I haven't had any issues with mine since. It even seems faster since they replaced those lines.

well, we weren't home most of the evening. A friend asked if we'd go check on their cat, clean the box, you know, while they were out of town. After we left there, we stopped at a Goodwill on the way home and a friend called. He was at the other end of the street (a long street, but only east/west not north/south) and he joined us at Goodwill. Then we went out to eat then visited here at the house for a bit longer, so last night's 6 and 9 goof ups online didn't affect us tonight.

It can get very expensive and frustrating to be having problems all of the time! I have been having a lot of problems with mine lately and it is even harder for me, because I know NOTHING about computers, and don't know a lot of people who do. I just know that when it is not working I have a lot more free time, but I miss it a lot.

yeah, I'm just over 30 pages to the end of the book, I'm almost at the point where even if I do start going faster I want to finish the book!
