Holi is known ‘festival of colors’ in India, it is one of the major Hindu festivals. Such an identity was given by Lord Krishna who was the re-incarnation of Lord Vishnu. As per the mythological tales, Lord Krishna loved to play mischief and drench girls with water and colors.
Holi arrives along with the spring season bidding a sweet adios to winter in most parts of India. The festival takes place in the month of March. Holi is observed one day after the full moon. This year, the festival falls on 20th of March, which is a Sunday. It is one of the most awaited fetes of India. From children to adults all enjoy this occasion of colors. It talks about the victory of good over evil by the customary event of Holika burning.
Further as per NASA Science News for March 16, 2011
On March 19th, a full Moon of rare size and beauty will rise in the east at sunset. It's a super "perigee moon"--the biggest in almost 20 years.

Yahoo news and our newspapers say: on March 19th 2011, the moon will make its closest approach to Earth in almost 20 years, possibly triggering earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and other disasters.
The phenomenon, called lunar perigee or Supermoon, happens when the moon reaches its absolute closest point to Earth. On March 19, the natural satellite will be only 221,567 miles away from our planet.
There were Supermoons in 1955, 1974, 1992 and 2005, and these years had their share of extreme weather conditions, too. Although there are scientific laws that say the moon affects the Earth, it's still ambiguous whether the lunar perigee and natural disasters is coincidence or not.
British freelance weatherman John Kettley was quoted as saying "A moon can't cause a geological event like an earthquake, but it will cause a difference to the tide. If that combines with certain weather conditions, then that could cause a few problems for coastal areas."
Well mylot friends, it is known that moon affects our mood, menstrual cycle in women, tides in sea.
Let’s see what is going happen, though we have no control over such phenomena.

I have been hearing about this Super Moon on the news. We just went out and looked at it. I can't wait for it to get a little darker so we can see it better. I might be wrong but I am thinking they said this will be the forst time that it has been this close plus full. I might have misunderstood that in a rush though.
We have festivals in my area but they are based on the season more than the moons. Like the Spring and Fall festivals. I think they are based on festivals that were celebrated on moons though.

My daughter was talking about this big moon nearer to earth only yesterday. I never knew moon could affect the menstrual cycle of a woman. I know that too much of affect of moon in our horoscope makes a person lunatic. Let us wait for the special events tomorrow.
Wish you a Happy Holi.

Interesting enough that the naturally occurring natural phenomenon is link with your local religious festivities. I guess we still have to watch out for that event this coming weekend as there is nothing wrong in being prepared for any eventuality that may happen this weekend.
