As the spring has come (I think there is no doubt for anyone that it is here, at last! ) we start to worry about the infestations with fleas and ticks. The last year was the worst regarding the fleas, yet I am not so worried about fleas as much as I am because of the ticks. They can carry deadly diseases like the Lyme Disease and Babesiosis. In my country, these days were already noticed the first cases of Babesiosis. So what should we do to fight the nasty creatures? What are your ways of preventing the infestation with ticks? I've heard that an ultrasonic device was created to repel both fleas and ticks. It is called Skudo (see the picture below). The advertisments about it make it look like the best pests repeller ever but can we trust them blindly? It is not sold on the markets here, in my country, so I can't find informations about it. I asked the vet about it and he said he knows nothing about it. I am curious if any of you used this device and if you were satisfied with the results. As any information is better than nothing, please share your experience with Skudo.

Hello inu, You come always here with new technologies for your bionic pets. As usual I never heard of this product, but I found the site and found it interesting. I have no pet but I am jogging or walking often in the woods, I get one tick every two or three years and I am always afraid of the possible consequences when it happens : I saw that they have a human model, and... why not ? It is not cheap but not very expensive -- $35 for a pet and $45 for a human --, but the advices I read online varies from "disappointing" to "great", and I read "dubious" on French forums which is a good summary. I found a drawing of frequencies heard by animals. A dog hears less ultra-sonic frequencies than a cat and insects a little more than both, so it can work as an insect and cat repeller -- nice for a dog --, if it works : I believe that a flea or a tick can be deaf and not sensible to this product.

wow topffer, I haven't found any disappointed reviews on this product, though like I told inu, in the video link I posted above, it does say it works mostly for ticks. So what kind of negative feedback have you found? Is it because it doesn't completely repel fleas? Or is there a problem with it repelling ticks too?

Good job topffer, I found the last two, but I didn't find the first one where it says that it may not be effective. I would also like the French forum one link to see what it says. I am still debating myself, because I know that some sound waves does mess up an insects radar or whatever it is called and poor Ciara with her long fur, these pests go right to where the longest of her fur is and made a mess I had to clean out. I am going to either go for the chemicals or try this device out..I much prefer this device as I can't stand chemicals...(Not that I feel the affects of the chemicals, but I know it's bad for the dogs and people around them)

It depends of the reviewers carmelanirel. Look at Does it works ? here : http://www.ehow.co.uk/info_8039601_electronic-flea-tick-repellent.html and for some users reviews -- it is what wants Inu -- of the Skudo : http://www.petplanet.co.uk/product_review.asp?dept_id=81&pf_id=8179 http://www.nutrecare.co.uk/Product-3414/Cat-Collars/Skudo-Tick-and-Flea-repeller

I haven't heard of this, but I remember a few years ago my husband had purchased these clip on devices that sends a sound wave to repel mosquitoes. I wore mine on a hike and unfortunately lost it, but if I remember correctly, I didn't get bit, but that doesn't mean it worked.. I have just about given up on getting rid of fleas, I have use lavender, citrus and even eucalyptus oil, and nothing works, not even the chemical stuff since it doesn't repel, it just kills the fleas. So even with the frontline on my dogs, fleas will still jump on them, the fleas just can't reproduce because when they bite the dog, they die. I am going to get into this device and hopefully someone here has used it and says it works...

Okay, I found a few sites online and so far seeing only positive feedback, but that doesn't mean it works, it could mean I have not dug far enough. There are a couple concerns I would have, but only one you would have. The concern you should look into and I am trying to find out is the batteries. They supposedly last a year, but what kind of batteries does this device take? How easy is it to purchase more batteries and how expensive are they? My concern of course with having two dogs is, will this be just another chew toy for Ciara to chew off her sisters neck???

I might give this job over to my son or maybe someone else can find it. But the one concern, the batteries, I can't find where to purchase them, not even on the sites that sell the device..So what's the point of buying the device if we cna't replace the batteries???

http://flea-remedy.com/skudo-flea-repeller-tag I still can't find about the batteries, but on this site it told me a little more about it. I guess it is more for ticks than fleas, according to the video, so pet owners may have to still use an alternative to get rid of the fleas. It might be worth looking into if your main concern are ticks. I may wait and see if anyone primarily uses just this device for fleas as well, because if it works for fleas, I want it...

Hi Inu I am really fed up with this flea thing I bought the Combo frontline for Gissi 3 Days ago even though the Vet and I could not find the Fleas Well Gissi was still itching like mad so I brushed him again, then I saw it now it is still very cold here so where have they come from and why has the expensive Item not worked and where have they been hiding so what I did today is cut up a couple of Garlic cloves as I have no Garlic powder and rubbed it all over the little Fellow, so far he has not had to itch I will check again later to see what is going on I just don't get it what is it with these beasts why are they so hard to get rid of all of a sudden

Oh, no! Don't tell me that Frontline Combo doesn't work! I don't know other much trustworthy product on the local market. What else should we try? For a light infestation, the lavander recipe from Carmelanirel seems to work fine. But soon the weather will be warmer and it will be an explosion of fleas around. I'm curious about the garlic powder you used. Doesn't Gissi smell like garlic sauce now? I wouldn't like Binne to smell like garlic. I rather like her to smell like chamomile or lavander. Are there any ticks to bother you in your area?

Advantix - which is like Frontline, but slightly different - also repels both fleas and ticks. It should NEVER be used on a cat, however.

Hello Shira, In fact, Advantix has a different composition. It doesn't contain Fipronil, as Frontline does. That's why it is not recommended for other animals than cats. From my experience and from my friends' experience I noticed that fleas has developed some kind of immunity toward those chemicals we put on our dogs. I'd like to find a more safe product for my dog's health, if this Skudo device would be as effective as they claim it is, I would go for it. But, unfortunately, I didn't received any opinion about it. Probably not too many dog owners used it.
