Everyone hug the ground

The wind is blowing, as hard as I have ever seen it here. All the cows, llamas and horses are hugging the ground. I opened one of our big gates and a big gust came and drug me across the ground. It sounds like a freight train and I must say it scares me a little. We have many great big old trees and due to our clay they are not rooted deeply, a wind like this can take them down with no warning. Branches are whipped away and there is nothing like mother nature to take away your confidence and make you aware of how weak the human body is. What I really want to do is hide under the bed. I thank God we don't have twisters here, but wait a minuete about 2 weeks ago there was one of those about 20 miles from here. Time to find a cave or dig a hole.

That sounds horrible. Where are you form? I have witnessed some weather like that here in New York City but nothing like you described. The wind can be very strong, never underestimate the power of the wind or water for that matter. Mother nature is a Mother!!! Always seek a safe shelter I guess.

The sound of breeze whispering is always nice to hear but if it converts into fierce wind the same sound can be disturbing. I hope everything is fine with you and the animals. Twisters can be very dangerous and i am glad you don't have one yet. I wish the wind calms down and things return back to normal. God Bless!

Hi Savypat, The power of mother nature is so scary and I like you would probably be wanting to hid under the bed right now too. Hope the trees do stay rooted or if they fall no damage to any outhouses or main buildings. You and the animals stay safe. Huggles. Ellie :DF

A wind that whistles can already terrify me to my wits. Where I live, we barely feel the effects of a storm. We are lucky to be protected by surrounding islands that storm winds can only do very little damage. I know the feeling of being unprepared for the worst. I think it wouldn't hurt you to start planning on a cellar or a basement while it's early. The thought of animals hugging the ground also seems kinda cute! . SOrry can't help it!

hi Pat, well those were strong wind gusts, no we do not have twisters in the Philippines but we have signal number 4 or super typhoons, they are really strong and most of the time comes with rain especially when they suck up strength from the Pacific or South China sea, but at least there's a warning so we get to put our animals in there shelters before it hits. Yeah mother nature constantly reminds her children to respect her.

I agree with you there, Its very hard when you have to just deal with whats coming and cant really prepare to actually stop anything. You just have to hope and pray that you will make it and pray for your loved ones and your community. Just look at the Earthquake in China, there were so many people that have lost their lives and the community has been destroyed.

Every state in the union has had twisters, I believe, but straight line winds can cause an awful lot of damage as well. On this site and on another one people have been talking about the wind, from the west coast to the east coast. We have had a lot of it here in the middle in Kansas as well.

We've never had a twister here either. But there was one yrs ago on a fluke in the middle of a city intersection how rare is that?!?! Otherwise the other ones have been 30min to 90min drive away from here. When they have severe storm alerts thats one thing my oldest will get worked up over thinking something is going to happen when the odds are it will not because we are not in a rural area.

People really underestimate what the wind will do. I remember a few years ago when Hurricane Ike was down south and I saw a wind warning on my weather bug. Big deal, I thought, a little wind...well, 90MPH is nothing to laugh at as I found out! I will pay attention from now on. Wind can do so much damage. I hope your livestock is alright and you suffered no damage.

How do animals "hug the ground"? I do hope the wind has passed with no damage to you, the animals or property. Do you have a basement?
