To Leave or Not To Leave. PLEASE HELP!

I've been having this problem for more than a month already. I have this home-based job and while working, I am attending seminars to earn CPE units for my Nursing career (since I am not practicing the profession, I need Continuing Professional Education). But last month, I was offered a good position by a huge company in a larger city. But thinking about the expenses for moving (staying away from home, getting an apartment and spending on food everyday) I realized I'll be earning the same amount with my homebased job. The good thing about this new job offer is the job security because it's from a large company, unlike in homebased jobs where your boss can kick you out anytime he likes since there's no contract whatsoever. The bad thing is I'll be staying away from home and I may not have the time to attend seminars anymore, because the shift for this job will vary (It's actually a call center, but they offered me the TIER2 position. So I get to get a bigger pay than ordinary agents). In my homebased job, I can ask permission from my boss to be out from work if I have to attend seminars. I am so confused right now. What should I choose? Can someone please help me out? PLEASE... :(

Have you ever worked in a call center before? I have and I will tell you it sucks. You might not have the same experience but I worked in one for seven years and hated all but one when I wasn't on the phones. What type of calls would you be handling? If it's a typical customer service call center be prepared for customers calling you mad about something and you have to deal with their anger and yelling.

Yes, I have. I was a Technical Support Representative then. This time it's going to be Customer Service for a financial account, which makes me anxious about it. You know why. LOL. Maybe I just feel excited about the thought of working in a larger city that I thought of trying it out. Thanks for sharing your experience!

do you enjoy your home-based job? if yes, then stay with it and forget about the other offer as it would deprive you of having time with your family and the seminars. There's nothing more worth enjoying or worth your while if you're happy with you work.

Hi obe212003. You're right. The job gives me the chance to be with my family and attend seminars too. Maybe I just felt excited to try the new job in a larger city. I was really thinking of trying it out. Thanks for sharing.

Even if you take the move, you know that you will eventually do something else. Hopefully you will be getting into nursing again. If you feel adventurous, and want to see a little more of the world, you should travel to the larger city. This is a great time in your life to try some new things. I would feel really uneasy about the homebased job. I do not know that this is the help you needed, but it is my opinion right now.

You're right! I am planning to pursue my Nursing career. However, now's not the right time to be on training as a Nurse yet (since training here means I wouldn't be getting paid yet). I am the one sending my brother to school. He will be graduating from College next year. So job and money are important things for me for now. But Continuing Professional Education for my Nursing career is also important. And you're also right about the homebased job. I feel uneasy about it too because I can lose the job anytime. That's why I am so confused. Thanks for your opinion. Yeah. I'm also the adventurous type. Thanks for the help.

In life I think people are disappointed by the things they have wanted to do but haven't ended up doing. However if a person has a strong career plan he or she should try hard to stay with that. Your are keen on your nursing career so perhaps you should stay and still attend the nursing seminars. The new job would give you about the same as your current home based job and yet you would have all the expenses with moving. If you moved and got an apartment you would need job security. Good luck choosing.

Hi maximax8. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I am planning to pursue my Nursing career and start on training when my brother graduates from college. That will be next year. (Starting on a training as a Nurse here in our country would mean not getting paid for the job yet. I cannot be jobless since I'm sending my brother to school). Do you think it would be a wise decision to try out the new job offer and try to finish the contract? If it doesn't work then I could go back to my homebased job. That is one option I'm thinking of right now. Do you think it will be a wise decision?
