This just doesn't seem to make sense to me......

Homeless in the US go without eating. Elderly in the US go without needed medicines. Mentally ill in the US go without treatment. American troops go without proper equipment. American veterans go without benefits that were promised. Yet we donate billions to other countries before helping our own first. Doesn't make sense, does it? Your thoughts.

Probably so they don't come and attack us. But that doesn't always work either. Many countries did try to help during Katria.
So many people don't have food at the end of the month, not just homeless. So many people loved February. 28 days, easier to stretch food or go without fewer days. We just finished a 31 day month. That's the hardest.
I just read where the amount of food thrown away could easily feed everyone. The problem is money and distrobution. If a homeless person can't get to a shelter, then food can't be distributed to that person. So a sick homeless person is really stuck as are many of our country people without gas money to go to soup kitchens. Our money is all going to the rich. It's not coming back down to the poor because the rich don't have to pay much taxes. There is enough money for all, but all people don't have money. There is enough food for all, but not all people can get food. That's what gets me. Too little food stamps or you can't get food if you don't have an address, etc.
I like Ithaca, NY. They printed their own money. It can only be used in Ithaca. It's called Ithaca Hours. It can only be used by local people to pay local people. MultiNational coorporations don't accept it. So their money stays with their people and everyone can get paid without the money going to places where it will never come back again. Hundreds of local businesses accept Ithaca hours. So you get paid in Ithaca hours and a little Mom and Pop store will take it so you can eat. The money never leaves Ithaca. It can't go to rich people from somewhere else and even if it goes to rich people there, they have to use it there. The bank won't accept it. Yet it can be cashed in at an exchange to pay your taxes. That's why every so often, I bring up that any entity in the USA can print its own money. I play Where's George and my money has gone many places, but not back into the local economy like Ithaca's does.
I worked a Farmers' Market and for years, many people would come and look, but couldn't buy. The Farmers complained and now there are vouchers that poor and elderly people can get to buy at a Farmers' Market, it's above (in addition to) their food stamps. Food stamps aren't taken away from them. But then again, they have to apply in person and that takes gas. Gas takes money.

It's been going on since 1991, the Ithaca Hours. Many places limit how much of the hours they take or give out like 10% or 20% due to owing loans other places. But the Ithaca hours money is so big now, they give loans and charge no interest;therefore, most businesses try to get loans locally, too. Many other places now have similar like Burlington Bread and Bershire Bucks, etc.
Not aware of regular stands being able to use our vouchers as at least two fruit and two vegetable Farmers must be present in order for the vouchers to work. Less than that, they don't have enough choices; therefore, the last I knew, they couldn't be used at a roadside stand. They won't even let them use them before July around here to make sure there are enough fruits and vegetables for them to choose from.
So what is FS?

THis Ithaca Hours thing reminds me of the mining communities and how they made such a manopoly in the towns. I can see the idea behind it here but in some ways it could end up hurting people if they owed outside the area at the beginning of the program.
Most of our fruit stands and such around here take FS.

I agree and I have written dozens of letters to senators, congressmen, the presidents and all throughout the years. None of them not one of them have responded to any of the letters I have written to them. I have even called their offices and voiced my concerns on these matters.
They just do not care.
I have let them know the way it truly is out here. I have even challenged them to try to make it on what people out here have to live on that have limited incomes such as SSI and SSD or even a small income such as having just a minimum wage job.
I am a college graduate and I have a good wage to live on but still it's hard to make it each month.
I fight for the people that have no insurance or not much of anything.
I can not get them to listen. I pay a high tax each year and trust me when I say I pay more than the average taxes. So I would thing they would listen to a person that helps pay their salary but they don't.
Unless you are lining their pockets with extra money that no one knows about you can not get their attention. I guess that's the only way to get their attention.
Unless someone else knows a way to get it they can tell us.

Oh,yes these senators, congressman, and the presidents. They get big bucks! They aren't worried about the bottom line. Just there's. They can vote themselves a raise!(used to be able to, not sure if that has changed or not).
And the insurance thing. They want to bring in a whole new insurance program that looks good to them and couldn't care less how it effects middle America.
I fight for my family and I haven't the strength to go further. But I can occasionally try to bring forth some kind of soap box to try to open people's eyes. I tried it with the Conspiracy Theory. That seems to have been banned from tv. Now what? Jesse is the smart one. He lives off the grid in Mexico. Smart guy! WIsh I had done that.

I tried to get my husband to do that 15 years ago when we sold our house on the coast before we moved here. He did not want to though. Then a few years ago when he was unemployed when all the people lost their jobs and many businesses when under. He said we needed to move to Mexico. I told him he was too late that when we had the money to do that I tried to get him to and he wouldn't, now that we had no money to do it he wants to.
That's the way it is with a man. When we come up with a better plan they don't want to do it, but let them think it's their idea and they want to do it. lol

I have signed many many petitions and will sign many more. I will write many more letters too. Yes, we will have to find ways to sustain ourselves because that is the only way we will make it.

And I feel so helpless. Even if you get good congressman in office they can only do so much. If all do not stand together what can be done? I mean really?! And there is so much that needs to be done!

There are a lot of things that go uncared for in our country. I can understand the disaster support and such BUT there have been donations and support to places that had nothing to do with that at all. These are the ones I question.
I hate the fact that there are so many things that are being ignored. They cut here and cut there but it always seems to be from where we need it to be at the most. I mean..the elderly for goodness sake. Government officials are paid a ton of money they don't really need to survive and our elderly are left with little or no choices at all. It is sad. And to think that Social Security is going to be just an idea that eventually failed while I pay as much into it now as I do taxes bugs me alot.

Government officials can give themselves raises. I wish people on SS could! Greedy! Crooks. I have been following the Conspiracy Theory on Trutv and it so scarey how powerful the government has become. WIth this new TSA thing and all the rest. Scarey!

America is not my country but when we get the news of the type that you have outlined here, it makes me sad. I have always looked up to this country and my prayer is everything should go well out there I have been there on a holiday and spent about 2 months. I will cherish those memories - the clean roads, the beautiful malls, the various sight seeing attractions, the beautiful houses - the list is endless.America has to maintain that 'Big Brother' status and that could be the reason why they do what they are doing.

Believe me it makes me sad too. This has always been a strong country and I am saddened to see what it has become. It still helps and does many good things but it has fallen in alot of areas as well.

This situation is everywhere not just in USA. I find it funny how 70% peoples in your country lives under poverty line. Yet we spend millions and billions on amusement like Cricket. I am starting to hate cricket just for that

If only people across the world would try to make their own little corners better for those they love and those around them this world would be a far better place. Instead alot of people now days are selfish and self serving.

Hey celtic! I totally agree and so do most people that I speak
to! There is so much wrong especially in NYS alone! We are so
in debt that they are laying people off left and right, closing
schools, firing teachers, police, firemen, and spending money
in the "wrong" places (on politicians)! And we can't take care
of the people in our own Country, yet we are sending money
to other Countries, getting involved in wars we don't belong
in! When is it going to stop?

It isn't! We are basically in a very bad situation. America has always been open to refugees and I can see the reasoning behind it BUT, we need to clean up our own yard before we invite more people over. Everybody on the hill can justify what they are doing and why BUT it isn't working!!
