In my city, people do not use anything to protect themselves from the sun.

I live in Chennai(Madras) and now that summer is here, the temperature easily touches 30 degree Celcius to 35 degrees in any given day. And it might go upto 40 when the day is very very hot. For people who don't know where chennai is, it is in south India and one among the metropolitan cities in India. But as I was returning from leaving my daughter at school, I noticed that none of the parents or anyone, for that matter, wore a cap or a hat or used even an umbrella. Most of them do not use sunshades or cooling glasses too. And I am included in this list of people who do not use anything to protect themselves from the heat and sun. There were just two or three people who had the sense to use an umbrella at least. I am thinking of using an umbrella from tomorrow onwards. That will at least save me from getting roasted alive under the direct rays of the sun. How do people in your city/place protect themselves from the sun?

Here in Illinois most will use sunscreen, hats and maybe very few will use an umbrella. The umbrella usually if used it is by the elder and mostly if so it is women who will. I primarily use sunscreen and a great deal of it during the summer because I get really concerned about protecting my skin from the sun rays.

Too cute and I get that from many of the moms here. They say the children at times sit on their laps while their mommy is myLotting and the child screams out not to change the page because they want to keep looking at my Wendy. I created her from the Wendy's Restaurant little gal. lol

HI HWG. Sunscreen is mostly used by young girls and maybe a few women. Not everyone uses it and the old prefer the umbrella. I have started using sunscreen nowadays and have been taking an umbrella too. It is becoming hotter and hotter and I carry a bottle of water which is my first priority. Thankfully my daughter's school is closed for summer and I do not have to go out in the hot sun by 2 pm to drop her at school.

And whenever I am logged into mylot when she is there, she comes and takes a peep and one day she saw your avatar and asked who is this little girl who has beautiful hair. I told that it is a friend of mine and she seemed satisfied with the answer.

In my country here, most of the girl will use umbrella to protect themselves from the sun. With the scorching sun, one can never really stand the heat, here especially in the afternoon, if you stand under the sun for about half an hour, you will find your skin get burn. So, imagine what will happen if you keep exposing yourself to the sun without any protection.

Hi yspmyl. That is actually a good and inexpensive way of protecting ourselves from the sun's rays. Here people sweat a lot too, because it is the coastal side of the country. People become tired very easily due to excessive sweating and we need to keep drinking water or any other liquids to keep ourselves cool. Some people are sensitive to the sun's rays and have to use proper sunscreen lotions etc. I tan very easily and ten minutes in the sun in enough for me to tan to a darker shade. Is it so bad in your country? I never knew! Hope you are well protected.

Actually my husband worked in Singapore for about four years before marriage and he has told me that it has the same climate as that of my city, chennai. Are Malaysia and Singapore not of the same climate?

Singapore is the neighbor country of Malaysia, the climate here are the same, but the temperature will be higher in the big city like Kuala Lumpur where there have not much of trees left but with a lot of vehicles emitting heat cases the temperature increased. The temperature sometime can be as high as 35ÂșC. I think the climate changed a lot compared to many years ago, where when I am still a teenager, I can play under the sun for few hours without getting my skin burn.

I hardly ever wear any sun protection this is because i almost never burn despite being from the UK and travelling the US in places such as Vegas however i know people who burn in the UK who go abroad and dont wear sun protection which i think is stupid if you are particularly susceptible to sun burning.

Hi anklesmash. Travelling in India without proper protection is a foolish thing to do for people from other countries with cooler climates. It is unbearable for us-and we have been living here all our lives. Just imagine how people from other cooler countries would feel, especially if they decide to travel in summer. Wrong choice regarding the months I would say. They might find Nov and Dec much better here. And yes, even if we do not burn, it is always better to wear protective stuff when you go to hot climatic places.

Wow your place is really hot. Here in our place in the Philippines, we have 20-24'C as the average temperature during summer and we still use umbrellas against the sun. I alwas use lotions with SPF when I go out even if its raining. If not for umbrellas, most ladies use sunblocks and guys use hats and long sleeves.

Hi xannex. what a nice climate you have. As I told in my earlier response, 20-24 is heaven for us and a pleasant climate to be in. Oh we wish we could have climate as that of yours! We would not have to use anything if we had such a good climate. And using long sleeves would makes us sweat more here. But if we use short sleeves, we will get tanned like tar. So we are always in a fix as to what to wear. And as I said, we do not use hats or even caps.

According to the expert, we have to protect ourselves exposed from the sun because it is not safe anymore due to ozone layer damage. Before, here in our country - the Philippines, it is still good to expose in the sun until 10:00 a.m but now 8:00a.m is very hot already. Too much exposure from the sun is caused of skin cancer so better bring umbrella or anything to protect you from the sun.

Hi gelayagui. It will already be hot before 9 A.M for us. And nobody bothers about it much because we are used to such climate. I find it difficult because I am five months pregnant and going out during the day when the sun is burning hot, is very tiring for me. I just thought about how we do not use any sun protection and that made me decide that I will be using at least an umbrella.

I think the best way to protect ourselves from sun are umbrellas ,sun cream etc...But if you get adopted to this sun you could survive in Future because many says in Future the heat of the sun would be more. And the best way is not to go in bikes or bicycles anywhere use car or buses because it is the best way.

Sorry for the late response. It is actually difficult to get accustomed to this kind of a hot and scorching heat. It is like this most of the time in my place but since it is summer, it is unbearable. And the kids and elders are the most affected ones.

hello devijay, Today, our weather reached 28 degrees and could reached up to 35 (boiling point...for me) I always brings umbrella with me and of course a handy fan. I also tried to avoid going out when it's too hot. Here in our place, sunglasses and umbrella are the common means to protect from this hot summer day. Malls are also the common place where people want to spend the day. Have a great weekend

28 degrees is heaven here. On a normal day it is 33 or 32. On a very hot day, it might go upto 40. We do not use umbrella and people feel it looks ridiculous if we bring a fan. People give us odd looks if anybody brings a fan along. As I said, they would rather roast in the sun than do things to protect themselves from it. We do go to the malls as do most of the people here to while away their time in air conditioned environment. But in summer, all malls are compulsorily asked to cut off air conditioning and it becomes hell for people who shop there. So there is no way of escaping the sun.

During summer you must carry an umbrella when you go out during mid day.In my place Kerala only girls carry umbrella and guys don't.I always wear sunscreen lotion when i go out during day time.I carry umbrella also.I know that i look awkward with umbrella because no other male use that, but still i insist on using it. Also in chennai people are usually a bit tanned,so they get natural protection from sunlight i guess.

Hi ravi. I have visited many places in Kerala and have found it so soothing to the eyes. The lush greenery and pleasant climate is something I love. And I would give anything to visit again. But I came visiting once to cochin and other places in May and found it to be drizzling and pleasant. Not hot like my city. And down south in Tamilnadu, places like Madurai and Trichy are even more hotter and sunny. It is very difficult to go out during the day time. But I do find people not using any kind of protection against the sun here. It holds good with me too. In spite of me being pregnant, I do not use an umbrella when I go out. It was not intentional, it was just plain habit I guess, of not taking much notice of the sun.
