Ok, it started with threatening letters to local businesses, them moved to the same for local talk radio. The ignorant imps who run the unions seem to think that talk radio hosts are hired by Clearchannel radio to echo their own political agenda over the airwaves. The fact is, the leadership of Clearchannel communications are big time Obama supporters. Remember all "Yes We Did!" banners plastered on so many Clearchannel billboards? Those weren't paid for by the Obama campaign. Clearchannel leadership voluntarily put that announcement on every bill board that was not being used by contract. Well, now the unionistas have a new ploy... leaving low tips and writing "union member" on the bill. Do they think this hurts the restaurant at all? What kind of idiot leaves a low tip, then identifies themselves? What kind of message are we supposed to get from this? That union members are cheapskates who don't leave decent tips? http://badgerblogger.com/?p=19656

To a broader point: what kind of idiotS take money out of the pockets of people paying their salaries to begin with? If private industry loses its thunder, these bums'll be laid off in droves. I guess the "me, me, me" bit doesn't see but one move ahead. There's chess. There's checkers. And then there's Pong. One ball to watch.

Honestly, I just find this one a bit too hard to believe. I get the logic of extorting businesses to bully them into siding with you. Doing this to waitresses however, does not really make sense. It seems far more likely that someone would do it to make unions look bad and that's assuming the story is true to begin with since it just came from a blog. I really don't believe waitresses are so vested in their employer that anyone would believe they'd influence decisions. Even if a waitress, or group of waiters/waitresses tried to push their employer towards a political stance it wouldn't have a big impact because they are easily replaced. There's never a shortage of people applying for those jobs and turnover costs are low since their wages are based primarily on tips. If this all is true, then yes, it shows how little respect unions really have for working people, particularly those in low income brackets. I just don't think any of this smells right.

It hurts the waitresses. They get low pay as it is and depends on those tips to make a living. Are not unions supposed to be about supporting the poor and the lower middle class? Sounds like hypocrisy to me.

As usual, unions are showing that they don't care about workers, just the money they can collect to buy political favors. They probably have an ulterior motive, to get waitresses and servers unionized. I find that people like this are very limited and know nothing about the world outside their own little nest--they don't know that waitresses are paid a very low base wage and their tips make up the bulk of their income. But they wouldn't care anyway, they'd just say it served them right for not having a union. What scum they are!

I guess waitresses are not 'people' who deserve to make a living? And perhaps their families are not worthy of security? We are fast developing into a country of the haves, and have nots. Something our forefathers left Europe to escape.

It sounds to me like these union folks want to see everyone else poor but them. the little mom and pop type restaurants around here don't get much business these days, and often the waitresses don't make half what they did 7 years ago. Why are they picking on the industry that makes only $2.50 an hour? The waitstaff depend on the tips to earn their living, the store is only required to pay them $2.50 or so an hour. Who can live on that?

For the same reason they would love to see every Wal~Mart employee out of work. They don't care about workers, they care about workers paying union dues. Lining their pockets is all they care about.

Ah, this is probably true. There is a new Walmart going up a few cities away from mine, and every time I pass it there are union folks picketing. The thing isn't even near completion yet. I understand most Walmart employees are happy with their jobs and they do get good raises for tenure and responsibility. I do not like what that store does to the surrounding small business, but they are a necessary evil I guess.

This is typical Union thinking. By not paying the waitress this will force her to force her employer to join the cause. I had several friends in the Private Sector Unions and when they went on strike they would talk about how much they would get once the strike was over. These guys believed that this was in their best interest because the Union told them it was. I tried explaining to one that they were losing money but they told me that the raise would make up for it with in three years. The trouble was that the contract was for two years because the economy could change and they needed to be able to make changes. These guys never did figure that every two years they went on strike and lost a few weeks wages to get a raise that would not cover their lost wages. These people have become so dependent on the Union for advice that when the Union tells them to do something the do it without thinking.

that stupid if I was waitress I would refuse to wait n them next time they came in sometime thats all they get is thier tips and then they have to share with the others on top of that. I stopped being a waitress when I heard that they would tax tips and had to share I never got big bucks back then so did make sine to share or pay taxes on the tips grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Wow, if there was a method on getting voters to turn against you, the Unions certainly are employing it.

The best part of that is that they were overheard talking about how their union told them to do this. Marching orders. They are pawns in the union's quest for power but so blinded that somehow they think it is about them, the union members. It's not. I figure that the union told them to do this every time they spot a business without a union support sign. The idiots have no clue whether this business was asked to have a sign or not. They just show themselves to be uninformed, cheap and selfish. If they really felt so strongly about it, why go into the restaurant in the first place? I guess their hunger for a good meal overshadowed their hunger for bargaining rights. It's usually the way, physical needs beat out other considerations. The unions must think that the waitresses and waiters of all these establishments will beg their employers to put up signs when they start losing money. It's only going to work once, because next time they go to that restaurant, the waitress isn't going to rush over to serve them. Wait staff are used to dealing with all kinds. They are a hardworking, tough lot. I don't think they will take kindly to this kind of strong arm tactic. Give it enough publicity and it will backfire completely, people will come from out of town to frequent the businesses that the union has targeted. Those union members are selfish, stupid people with an overdeveloped sense of entitlement. If I were them, I wouldn't feel safe eating any meal out ever again. Retribution might taste very bad.

Yeah, to tell you the truth, I thought this could be just an isolated incident that the incompetent press was making into an issue.. until I read the post about the thugs talking about doing it. They are exactly what they accuse the "management" of being. They don't care about workers, they care about their petty little power and delusions of grandeur.

This just shows how stupid people are and that they can't let them be! They got to conitinue trying to get their point across even though there is no piont anymore! This is a great example the these union memebers are making! They just don't know when to stop!
