I was going through some travel brochures where the travel companies listed all the facilities they were offering plus an additional feature like jain food, kosher food, south Indian vegetarian food etc etc for travelers. This got me thinking as to how fastidious people are when it comes to food habits. When I travel some place I would like to try out whatever is available there and also try some of the local specialities as well. I feel that it is part of the travel experience...how about you all? please do share your views and experiences

Hi , Kiran ..it depends really on what my taste buds are at that moment. If I feel like having something which I fancy , I will .. and if the local delicacy looks interesting , all the more better. I'm always up for new things anyway.

Hi zed, I agree with that ! When I was in Hong kong I loved the chinese food there but I could hardly look at the snakes and other stuff on display. I don't think that I could be that adventurous lol...But I do like to try out local specialities - all the best and enjoy your evening

If you are on a trip and you are visiting some place then it definitely becomes a part of your travel log to experience the tradition and culture of that particular place. And the culture and tradition includes the food.I can not imagine travelling to a particular place and returning back without having tasted the local delicasy.Aside from being a treat to your taste buds most of the times it also gives a upper hand in giving advice to any of your friend when they are making a trip to that particular place.

When my wife and I travel we like to visit local restaurants and cafes that we see to try the local food. It also gives us a chance to meet the local people. This practice has proven to be very enjoyable.

Hi kala, When you are travelling through India it is very easy to find food that we are used to.And it is also nice to try out the local dishes like in places like central Karnataka Ragi is very popular and they make something called ' Mudde' which is dipped into gravy and eaten. It may seem crude to those who are not used to it, but once you try it, it is really very tasty. The problem is more when people travel abroad and if they are rigid about food habits...

Hi Kiran! I would love to try local specialities, if they suit my palate (means they are not too tangy or spicy to eat). I feel this way we can have a taste of different local delicacies and dishes and it widens our knowledge about local food.

I think it's one of the best things about travelling. I first tried rabbit when I was in tenerife, in a restaraunt in the town, rather than at the hotel, and I loved it. and I really really want to go to New Orleans, but I think I'd come back the size of a house, as I love Creole food. it's not exactly known for being low fat, and I would probably spend most of the holiday eating. maybe if I do get to go one day, I'd better book two seats for the trip back.

I eat a vegan diet. Therefore I take plenty of my own vegan snacks with me when I travel overseas. I am also a very fussy eater. I take a phase book with me that tells the people that I am vegan. Many people in the world don't know what vegan is. I took my "Vegan Passport" to the Maldives and where I was staying the staff couldn't read it. They all had different languages and some of them couldn't read. I don't like to put people to much difficulty in feeding me. When I went to Samoa they went of the the capital city to shop for me! I am very keen on traveling to different countries but I have to be careful what I eat.

Hi maximax,I understand when a person is particular about diet.In India there are many people who are not only vegetarians but they also do not eat stuff like onions, garlic and certain vegetables. Such people have a tough time when they are travelling to other places and have to stay in hotels...

Yeah. it is a 'must' to try local specialties in places i visit as this is somewhat part of their culture. Although a lot of recipes are common among regions in our country, there are some sort of deviation in terms of ingredient and the way it is cooked locally... an experience worth remembering to every place i visit.

Hi obe, it is the same here in India, there are so many varieties of food and each region has its own speciality and if one does not try them out, one is really missing out on the experience. When we travel it is also important to get the local feel and learn something about the history and culture of the place we are visiting - all the best and happy mylotting

Hello Kiran ji, It is speacility of our country that language and eating habits change here after every 50 km. I think visit to any place is uncomplete without tasting the foods of that place. Every city famous for their tastes. In ref. of rajasthan you can not enjoy your trips if you do'not eat local foods. Rajasthan have many famous and delicious foods

Hi anil, I agree with you.We have so much variety within one country, in fact even within a state the food habits are different. In karnataka state from where I come from, there are so many different styles of food and they are all so different. I too feel that any travel is incomplete without tasting the local specialities ...
