If the cashier gives you MORE money back, Would you let the cashier know??

Say, you go to the grocery store/mall and the cashier hands back your money and they give you more than they're supposed to- Would you let the cashier know and give the money back or would you keep quiet and keep the money? For me, if I know the cashier counted wrong, I'd let them know but if I didn't check then I'd keep it. How about you?

Well just like you, it depends. If upon returning the change I'd notice that there's a seemingly miscalculated change, then I would let the cashier know and return the extra amount. However, if I did not notice it, I'll have to keep it. However, if I have a chance of returning the money say, the following hour, day or week, I would be happy to do it. After all, nobody saw it but just me and my God. I will be accountable to no one but GOD.

Yeah! I think the feeling is mutual and the idea as well. Your discussion topic is worth sharing so I just thought of dropping by an experiential sharing. Have a lovely day!

I was once a bank employee, the training inculcate already in me, I used to count money handed to me before leaving the counter that's why if ever its more than to my supposedly change, I can return immediately. Our bank practice especially when you are assigned in tellering section. You have to count money twice before handed it to the client to avoid shortages or overages.

Hello infatuatedbby, I was in the queue for buying train tickets and the cashier, i don't know what was going in her mind, but she returned me back more than i gave her. I was surprised at this and she was so happy that i gave it back to her. That was quite much money actually, but i never feel good about keeping it so i return it back.

Depends on how much they over charge me and how many times they do it. If its just once and its only a few cents then i would not go back in, If they kept doing then i would go back in and ask why there over charging me but if its just once and only a couple of cents not worth going back just to lazy to or would be to lazy to lol.

This actually did happen once where the cashier was a young girl and she handed me over a dollar and some change too much. I usually always pay attention to my change because it is human error to make mistakes and I don't want to be accidentally cheated. So I immediately returned it and told her to be careful because doing so too many times would perhaps get her fired if she was short in her register. That is what I immediately at the moment thought that for a dollar and change she could be fired to so would have felt way to guilty to have kept it.

I would surely give the money back because I know that any shortage in the cash box will be shouldered by the cashier. I experienced being a cashier and it really sucks when you fall short. I need to use my personal money to fill in the shortage. The money should have been used for more important things. Even if I haven’t been a cashier, I would still return it back. I really don’t like to spend money that it isn’t mine unless it came from husband. I know how meager the salaries of this cashiers are and if they would incur a shortage because of my dishonesty, what more can they take home to their families. That money could have been used for their food.

I always count my change before leaving the counter. I already had an experience wherein the cashier gave me extra Php50 for the change. I hand it back to her because I know that it will be taken as a salary deduction against her once they found out that they are negative for a certain amount of money. I had another experience wherein jeepney driver had mistaken me as a student. In the Philippines, students have Php1 discount for transportation fare. I returned the Php1 extra change he gave me and confessed that I'm no longer a student. As per the old saying, honesty is the best policy. If a person can't be honest with small things, how can that person be trusted with bigger things?

I always count the money, but usually while they're counting it back to me. Yes, I would give it back, whether I discovered it while still in line or even hours later. Not returning the money is like stealing. And in many stores, if a cashier comes up short he/she can be penalized or even fired.

Well, if I had known that the cashier gave me more than what I should receive, I'd definitely give it back to him or her. I'd be too affected by my conscience if i had known it but kept the money for myself.

If the cahsier gives me change more than s/he's supposed to, I will return the excess. Although it sounds cool to keep the excess, returning it is still the right thing to do. Also, I value money to the last cent. Here in the Philippines, people usually throw away nickels ($0.001) and dimes ($0.002) although they're still useful in some payments like bills. It's ironic how the people who don't have much money are the ones ignoring these small values. One time, the cashier gave me excess. I think the change was supposed to be 70 cents but she only has quarters to she gave me 75 cents. It was intentional because she did not have the coins for it and she did not expect me to giver her 5 cents but I still went back and gave her a nickel because I had one.

Hello, If the cashier gives me extra balance, I will give the cashier back for sure. I am not saying this to show that I am a nice guy, but it is important for us to be honest. I believe in Karma or what you give, you get back. I do not want the same things happened to me in the future. So better be honest. I have a friend who work as a cashier. He needs to pay back or cut the salary if the money in the cash box is not enough. Happy lotting.

I will agree with your answer. I don't always count the change myself, and the cashier doesn't always count it back to me, so, if I happen to count it and notice that I was given too much, I will and do return the money. If I don't count it, I never know because I stuff it into my purse among everything else.

Yes, I have given it back. Poor cashier will have to pay for it when the daily accounting is done. It is my God given conscience that tells me to be truthful. What you do to others will be done to you to in one way or the other.

hello, I think same as yours because the cashier will be the one will pay that right? and maybe she will lost her job for this reason. And I can't take it at all, but in the other side if i don't notice that the money is over and I just arrive home or maybe I am too far to the grocery store I wont give it back because its too late because usually I don't count the money because I trust them. LOL

Yeah I don't really count because I trust them too especially if i know my change is little but if my change is A LOT I would double check. Thanks for sharing :)

I would, if I had noticed. Sometimes I just take my change and throw it back in my purse. In those cases, I would probably never realize it unless it was a huge mistake. This makes me think I should be checking, in case they short me!

Same here, I do that too but if I know the change is going to be a lot of money, I check but if its a little I don't bother.
