Free time at office - What do you do at free time in office?

Suddenly the electric is off! Everyone are free. What will you do now? Female staffs usually gather to talk about all things. We buy fast food to enjoy, too. Male staffs will play a game card or going to coffee shops. I usually call for my friends, my family and anyone whom I forgot to call them. How are about you? What do you usually do at free time in office?

I remember this type of situation well and because it was nothing anyone of us could do I would immediately pick up my cell and make calls that I knew needed to be returned in my personal life. lol

You're right. We usually work and we don't have enough time to talk to our colleagues. So, this is the good time when we can study more each others.

Hi Tkonlinevn, it has never happened in my working life. While it is common for the computer system to be down, there is never a chance of a complete blackout. Most companies and factories have backup power. If only the blackout occurs an hour before the end of the shift, then we can even go home earlier. Too bad blackout is very rare here.

It's really too bad. Because blackout is the happy time with us. We're even happier than when we're in holiday.

When I were working in a consultancy company, my Chinese and Indian bosses never allow us to have free times. Once we finished our works and chatted for a while, he would come and querying us if we had followed up certain matters of certain projects. ha! ha! ha! In their mind, engineers must work with high efficiency. In fact, they were concerning to earn with high efficiency. ha! ha! ha! We were stressed and over loaded with many construction projects just because of saving the over head cost. The excuses from the boss was to maintain the low overhead to overcome the economic downturn later. In this working environment, I learned a lot to work with high efficiency. Within the short period, I had to accomplish many tasks. I quit after passing 5 to 6 years over there because I wanted to live longer. I couldn't afford to lost my lovely children later.

I don't work in an office but I do work at home on my computer. In my free time, I find ways to make extra money while sitting idol from my other work duties or I get things done around the house too. Sometimes I take a break and go outside also.

with our office, we cannot do much when the power goes off, fortunately, it doesnt go off that much. the last time we had a structured time when the power went off (they were doing electrical work) our boss took us all out for lunch!

I think the basics, would go have a cup of coffee, chat a little bit here and there with some co workers, but mainly surf the web, do my online tasks, chat a little, get updated on some info here and there, read my personal emails, etc.

I worked as a transcriptionist and during free time in the office, we really didn't have the chance to talk with co-workers. The free time depended on when one has finished his/her work or when we like (we had a 45-minute daily break which we can use anytime, one time or accumulated). Being in front of the computer, we usually spent the free time studying anything related to our job like grammar and such. There were a few times when me and my co-worker/friend would arrange what time we'll take our break and head for the mall (it was just walking distance from our office, lol ).

It's seem that you're quite busy with your job. Right? I wish you have more time in order that you can finish your works to get more free time.

I usually chat for a bit and then catch up on reading. I always have a book in my purse so this is a perfect time to get in a couple chapters. A couple friends are will usually walk to the closest coffee shop to get a coffee to pass time and get out in the fresh air for a minute. I also start making to do lists of what I need to get done in the next days and weeks and try to plan the next couple weeks. I like to use this time to get ahead so I dont get behind.
