I quit my meds three weeks ago. Maybe it was stupid, but I couldn't stand how they make me feel.I was taking abilify for bipolar disorder, and then was put on Celexa for the depression the first med caused. I've never been depressed in my life untill i started abilify. Has anyone else quit their bipolar meds, and were you fine afterwards? I think I would rather risk being manic than spen all my time in a foggy depression. I don';t feel great yet or anything, but I certainly feel more like myself than the 5 months I was on those pills.what a huge waste of 5 months of my life.

I know nothing of these meds, having never sufferered from health problems that demanded them, but having severe rheumatoid arthritis means that I am chained to meds myself, to keep it in check, and experience tells me that if I let them lapse for a couple of days, I pay a heavy price in terms of pain suffered for my failure to medicate. So I do understand where you are coming from, but I do think you are takung a big risk. Hope it works out OK for you, though. Good luck!

They all have the same kinds of side effects. I'm tired of being a zombie, I would rather deal with being manic

Ho there, It is ok that you have given up medicines for your illness but are you aware what could happen due to your sudden stop of taking them? I feel if the medicines are prescribed by a competent doctors and you have full faith on him you consult with hm before coming to conclusion your own. I had high BP like 170/130 and for long time I took self prescribed medicine and the catastrophe had almost stricken when I was admitted to hospital and was put to ICU for four days. Now things are normal. Yesterday when I got it checked it was a little higher than 120 and 80.

Well the only person that is in the right position to decide with regards to your sickness is your doctor. I just hope that with the number of medical breakthroughs nowadays, they invented a pill that would help you with your sickness and yet not give you ill discomforts on the side. If the pill is making you ill in a different way, its just as if transfering the point of pain from one body part to another, isnt if ridiculous?

Whatever medication you are taking if it is prescribed to you by the doctor, you should follow it prayerfully if you really want to be cured. Because if you stop, you will start all over again. The previous one you left to take will not be effective anymore especially if it lapse for how many days. It should be a continous process. Help yourself and follow the doctor. Communicate with your doctor. That is for your own good and don't forget your to pray to God that He will shower with blessings of good wisdom and knowledge and ask for peace of mind and eventually you will have it and be depression-free. HAve a nice day!!!

It is difficult when taking medications for mental disorders. You know your body if this medicine puts you in a fog discontinue but only after first talking to your doctor. Your doctor may prescribe new medications or a lower dose. With any medication its a hit or miss, what works for some1 else may not work for you. Keep the dialogue open with your dr and be sure to monitor your reactions to the medications, so you can help your dr find the right treatment. hope this was helpful

It is important that the doctor monitor you and not just keep putting you on meds. My great niece went on Abilify, and eventually they had to reduce her dose to 1/4 of the smallest tablet. It was just enough to help her bi polar. Her bad side effect was a rash, though, and she no longer takes it. Now her behavior is out of control. My biggest concern though for what you have said is it sounds like you just quit cold turkey. The problem with that is that it lowers your seizure thresh hold and you can find yourself having seizure activity due to stopping abruptly.

I do take pills but have had no side effects. If I had a problem with them I would certainly get back to my doctor and consult with him. You took your treatment for 5 months and in those 5 months had severe side effects but i wonder why you never thought of getting back with your doctor and discussing the issue with him. You can still do it. But stopping treatment is not the best thing under the circumstances.
