Dear MyLot, Hi mylot few years from now technology raise up everybody is using a cellphone are you?even a 12 your kid is already using a cellphone for emergency purposes and to contact here friends, ill not deny that i am using a short cut messages maybe because maybe the character of the cellphone is limited some cellphone ,they are only aloud to have 160 characters some also have no limit. If it is already above 160 another, charge will cause so maybe in doing this i am just utilizing the space to have 160 characters. are you using also short cuts? if yes why and if it is not why ?

hi ckciasigurl. YES. I do before! But now, a BIG NOOOOOOOOOOO! Before I was still so childish... I used to abbreviate those words when I compose a text message but as time goes by, I learned! I don't shortcut my text message now. Even here online! Because if I still used the way I used before, I will not know the right thing.. the right spellings and everything! I find it so annoying! Its good to be like this now! :) I feel respected!

Hi ckciasigurl, all my friends are using short font when they are sms include me. I think the main reason is because the limitation of the characters. When we type more then 160 characters, anything more then 160 is consider second sms. Somemore the purpose of sms is for our convenience and everyone sending sms are using short font. That why i feel weird if i didn't use short cuts.

I'm using abbreviations because the letters are limited and abbreviations are quite usually used today like in quotes, they're really abbreviated. Not only in text messages but also in writings especially if your kind of lazy writing the whole words as long as you can make one on your own abbreviation that you can understand. For me abbreviation is easy to text and I really agree with you that lots of children nowadays are uising cellphones =)

Yes I do. It makes communication faster for me. Good thing I am still adept with my vocabulary and I have Mylot to thank for as I can practice the English language more often.

i am using short cuts n abbreviations all the time on my text sms...as you can see i have used alot of em here even...its so much easier n time saving this way...and if you have a touch screen cellphone its gonna take years to type one complete sentence...but i only use shortcuts when i text my friends or someone close to my age...i dont use it for official work though...

If you want to earn with your posts here on myLot then you should not use them because they are not English and do not show up in search engines therefore your posts, if not deleted, will earn you zero

I do not use shortcuts in sms unless it is just one or two characters short before it hit 160 characters. Most of the time, I would let it go to the second message as my phone is able to send up to 4 messages per go. I prefer not to use shortcuts as it may distort my message if the recipient is not able to decode my message.

Cell phones do have a place in life and sending sms messages is cheap. i have a mobile phone but I rarealy use it to call I tend to send a text message because it is the cheapest way. Some networks offer very good deals, so many texts for a set amount. when I send a text message using my cell phone I try to use a mixture of ordinary spelling and abbreviations, some friends understand the texting code yet others dont.

Hi ckciasiguri, Frankly speaking now I like to make a call to the person rather than text massaging. Earlier I would write a lot because my Nokia handset allowed me to access as many words as I wanted. I mean for an SMS. Even today when I write messages I sort of feel incomplete when I opt for short cut language like 'trn wud rch on tm'. Instead I would write The train would reach on time.

No, because I don't scrimp on my text messages and I don't sacrifice quality over quantity. Besides, using shortcuts and abbreviations often leads to miscommunication and misinterpretation of the facts. I don't know if it's just me, but I strive to text in complete words and sentences. I am not being purist or anything, but it is my earnest belief that it is the way it should be. I may be walking on a path less taken but I would stay firm.

Usually , when i text i don't fully abbreviate. I feel as if if i will abbreviate it will not be understood. Sometimes, even my daughter sends SMS in so much abbreviated way, that we would ask her to reword what she has texted us. I hate receiving so abbreviated texts. I have to read aloud to get its meaning.

I only do that for certain words ,when I text with one of my daughters. She found it funny that I picked it up,and we are doing that for fun,Any serious messages I write out in full,to make sure they are understood.

No, I don't use the shortcuts. I find if people use to many shortcuts in texting or Instant Mesaaging you sometimes can't understand what they are saying. I like to have fun with the people though. When they say wat meaning what I say wait, wait for what? See, if you put an "I" in there instead of an "H" you get a different word, just like when someone asks where I'm frm. I say I arm a few miles down the road from here and it really confuses them. That's adding an "A" instead of an "O". The other one I do is if someone just says ASL I say no, I'm MRR you have the wrong person. I know what ASL means but I figure you could at least so more then just the three letters.

No. I absolutely hate using abbreviations and text speak. It drives me crazy! When I was a kid I used to do it, but now even receiving a text that isn't written out fully irritates me. I absolutely loathe it, haha, but my dad uses it all the time when he texts me. I have unlimited texting with my plan, so I'd rather have the message span over two texts than shorten it.

Yes i am using shortcuts while texting so that I could make use of 160 characters and say all I want to say within the limited number of character in an sms.

Hi ckciasigurl, I rarely use all the abbreviations and random words when i am texting someone. I really don't like using them (except for OMG and LOL). I feel that short words make the sentences more confusing. The other day, i sent my dad a text message saying...I am coming home 2day! My dad totally freaked out thinking i am not coming home for two days!LOL But yes, short texts can be used to minimize the text length and stay away from any extra charges!

It depends on to whom the text message is sent. If it is sent to my close friend, and I am sure that he knows the exact meaning of what I am saying, I would use some shortcuts and abbreviation to optimize the length of the text. Otherwise, I may avoid using these things to prevent some misunderstanding even though it may lead to some extra cost for me.
