We were chosen by a cat...now what?

Guess what? We were chosen by a cat. My b/f was visiting his friend at a car lot where his friend works and hears a crying in the weeds. He looks around and out of the weeds comes this poor poor cat. She was horribly malnourished. When you pick her up, she feels like nothing. She had ticks under her collar..yes..she had a collar. She jumped on his lap and just loved him...and when he tried to leave..she jumped into the car on his lap! When he got her here..we all went out to see because he said someone had followed him home....in the car followed him..lol...anyway...assured me it was only for a while...I am like what the heck have you brought home???? It was her. I picked her up and when you do this...she puts both paws around your neck and hugs you! Purring so loud it's deafening..lol. She was so light...she couldn't have weighed a pound, but bigger than my dogs..lol..oh yes..the dogs. No problem for her...she thinks she belongs here. She just walks around and acts like they aren't even there. If they try to nip her..she smacks them gently, hisses at the bad dog, and goes about her business. I have tried to call the number on the collar several times. It is a answering machine and in Spanish. They have never called me back. What am I going to do now? We are going to get a litter box this evening and I guess an appointment with the vet next week. She has a ton of personality. Very vocal. When I was giving my dogs a snack, I always say their names so they know it's their turn...she was in the middle of them and I thought to myself..she needs a snack too. I said Kitty..she stood up like the dogs would during their turn and gingerly took her snack. The dogs are in shock

Awwh how sweet is that. What comes to mind is her family missing the cat? You can call the number and say: Hola, tengo tu gato = Hello I have your cat. If no one responds then what else can you do but take good care of cat. I bet your girls are loving the cat.

I actually left messages and my b/f has tried to call throughout the day too. I think she has been away from her family a longtime..she is not in the best shape at all. I can't imagine her leaving her family either..she has been here now for three days and hasn't left the yard! I have brought her in some but we aren't prepared inside for her yet..thus the litter box tonight...lol.. My girls are in love...she hugs them too...and is very very snuggly..she is one of the most attention wanting cats I have ever seen.

I will! The girls are really loving her. They have actually wanted a cat for a longtime but we have the dogs and I wasn't sure how that would work out..lol..I guess we found out ready or not.

Sure sounds like it, and I know you and the girls will take very good care of her. Upload a picture one day so we can see her cutey self. I am sure your girls will not want to part with her now. From the sounds, I wouldn't either.

She is a loving little thing. It is hard to imagine that her family has just left her behind like that. She certainly isn't a wandering cat, she hasn't even thought of leaving the yard when she goes out to potty. It's like she knows the boundaries in the yard already..lol..or maybe she is just following the dogs. Thanks for responding.

I think you better just keep that cat. Her ex owners certianly dont seem very concerned. Theres a reason why she left that home. Maybe they dont answer because they dont speak english or they just dont care.

Thats really sad when people do that. I think alot of people get pets as babies then when they grow up they lose interest in them. Or sometimes they dont treat the pet right and they run away.

Your right...I do think people tend to lose interest in their pets when they grow up. That's too bad too. Pets can bring alot of happiness to a person's life no matter how old they are.

That is nice to hear about. Sounds like a nice cat too. Looks like she found you! When I was growing up we moved into a house that came with a cat. Big tom cat my mom named Percy. He would leave for weeks at a time. He'd come home with matted fur and notchs out of his ear. He had this attitude like we were all there for his entertainment.

That happened to my cousin! She heard meowing out side and when she opened the door was this cat just sitting there looking at her. My cousin looked at her said do you want to come in and the cat did! She found her a home and three days later she came back. Found her another home and that night she came back again. At this point she decided to just keep the cat... Our cat hugs us and we knew that was the one for us. Our old man (the cat was 16) had passed and after a few months I was lonely for someone to sit on my lap like he did. We went to the local SPCA and after looking at all these cats we hadn't found any that fit us. On the way out my middle girl (we had three at the time) saw this tiny little thing sleeping on a cat shelf. She asked if we could see her and as soon as she hit my arms she was all about loving us. She wrapped her paws just as you said around my then 18 month old daughters neck and just hugged and purred. They do everything together now...just check out my cookie post to get an idea..lol everything.

That is sad what that cat has been going through. They might not be calling you back because of not understanding English.Does it give the cats name and if so are you calling it that? It sounds like it might be a good thing they aren't getting her back. Her attitude sounds so cute and it sounds like you are getting attached to her.Hopefully everything turns out.

Well...I left the message in Spanish. It is my second language so I know they understood. I just think they abandoned her. It says her name is Sugar...lol...I have been calling her Kitty.. I guess I have been keeping it impersonal because I thought at first they might want her back. Seeing that she is in bed right now with my b/f and the dogs...I am thinking she is staying here for a while..

Wow! She sounds like a real well adjusted cat. Gatta is female (kind of) for cat in Spanish. Nina is little girl. I took a girl in who was named Sophie. She was Rygel's, the white eared cat in my avatar, mother. just a few names to run past her

Our Sophie was a good little mama, after all, she had 3 WONDERFUL boys and I suspect her daughter was just as wonderful, tho we weren't able to keep track of her like we did Rygel's brothers, (Felix a/k/a Sirus and Jack a/k/a Orion)

She acts as though she has known us forever! I swear...I thought the dogs would freak her out but she doesn't worry one bit about them. It is actually very odd. She must have been around dogs..or maybe their size doesn't worry her..I don't know. As far as us...she acts like she has been here forever! She loves us and follows us. My b/f was walking in the front yard and she was right on his heels. I just don't know what to make of her. You can tell she has been on her own a while..or she wasn't taken care of..she is soo skinny and hungry. Other than that..she seems to be in good health...we got the ticks off of her..they has been there a while. Sugar was the name on her tag..but I am thinking of something else too. I like Sophie. Maybe she will like it..lol...all of this has certainly been up to her.

I picked up a very thin cat, very sweet and personable. Unfortunately she tested positive for feline aids. Hope your kitty tests out OK.

Hahaha your story reminds me that pets chooses their owners most of the time than the owners choose their pets.^_^ That cat is very lucky for finding you guys. She knows she will be taken care of when she's with you. Goodluck to your dogs in adjusting to the new "miss" in the house.LOL

I'd say you aare not the proud owners of a cat. Maybe you can find her a new home but I wouldn't count on it, she has chosen. It's a great honor to be chosen by a cat, in some places in the world they are considered holy. Blessings

I can't stand it when people don't take care of their animals, so I think that it's great that you and your bf have decided to take her in. Judging by this discussion, I would think that she is in good hands now. If the people don't call back you might want to call one last time and say Gato, it means cat in Spanish. It could be that they just don't speak English and once they hear that word, they might try to get in touch. However I am loath to tell you to contact them because of the condition that the cat is in, they don't get like that over night, my cat went missing for almost a month and when she came home, she was almost as big as when she left. It sounds as though this cat has been abused. I think that it is a good idea to take her to the vet though, no doubt she will need a special diet to get her weight up and not to mention some meds for the ticks you found. I am glad that she seems to be settling into your place comfortably, LOL. Sounds like she has found a very happy healthy new home. Good luck and happy mylotting. Oh and if you need some advice on pets, please feel free to ask me, I have a cat, dog and several fish and there hasn't been a time in my 29 years when I didn't have one or more cats in the house. Hope you all do well.

Thank you very much for the offer! I may be taking you up on that. We can always use a little advice about things from time to time. I can tell that she has been neglected. She is starved for love and attention. Usually cats aren't that dependant but she wants to be with one of us all the time. I speak Spanish as a second language so when I called, I left the message in Spanish just in case they didn't understand English. My dogs are doing well with her too although they are still trying to figure her out..lol...she doesn't pay them any mind at all except to rub them with her tail as she walks through the group.

Uh oh, it sounds like she's found a new home. It's funny how sometimes a pet will adopt a master and it sounds like that's totally what she did. It also sounds like she really needed someone to help her too. That simple act of kindness might have saved her life. And you've added a new member to your family.

I might actually have to do that. It is worth a million dollars to see the confused look on the dogs faces when she comes strolling through the middle of them rubbing them with her tail. She stands up for a snack when it is her turn too. Thanks for the reaponse and the video

They are very good at insinuating themselves into your life This has happened to me more than once and I'd say don't bother trying to contact the previous owners again since it seems that they neglected the cat in the first place. If a cat is in a place where it feels safe and loved, it will not wander off. If on the other hand, it's neglected or abused, it'll generally just leave and look for a better home. Sometimes they do manage to find a better home, sometimes they don't. But they are very good at recognising people who will take proper care of them as this cat obviously has done. And it's obviously already decided that your home is going to be it's home!

Hey Jen! What a sweet story! You have to keep her, I would! If she was malnourished that badly I doubt that that family tried to find her. Is she a kitten? I would take her to the Vet and make her a part of the "family" as she seems to feel at home already and very happy to be "found".

I'm gonna take her Monday. She is so sweet and I can't believe that someone just left her on her own. She is not a kitten..but she is not full grown either. At least I don't think she is. She is a little malnourished to tell right now. She is so happy to be with us...she purrs all the time and crys when we aren't being attentive enough. Thanks for responding.

aww that is so sweet, i wish I had a cat that chose me. my friend also has a cat that follows her wherever she goes, even to her car. I am amazed that there are cats like this, because mine don't have a care in the world for people unless they are really hungry. and still they are too scared to go in the car.

Some cats are very independant. I have always known cats that just did what they wanted. This one is very different from the cats I have known. I have had cats that had personality but this one acts like she thinks she is one of us...I guess she is now..lol.
