The Most tensed day of my life is the day I visit my dentist. I usually visit dentist for cleaning. Those 20 minutes on the seat is terrible experience. The digging into jaws and sensitivity on teeth is more severe than any other pain. But I do need to go atleast half-yearly. Once I got my tooth removed, my dentist was so casual in plucking it from gums..I started sweat even on a air conditioned clinic when he inserted those tool. Did you feel the same? I feel visiting dentist is a scary experience! Isn't it?

Hi Kirinx, Well named Prince of pain is perfect name for dentist. Rather than dentist, his tools are really scary. That giant needle my eyes will start to water before he puts on teeth. Though visiting dentist is good, but scary for me.

Hi besthope44, it's an awful thing for me to visit a dentist in my childhood. Though I still had to, for I couldn't tolerate the severe pain from the decayed cheek tooth. It's a great torture to suffer from toothache and there's no choice and dentist was the only one who could "rescue" me Filling a tooth was more scary than extracting tooth. The pain and fear as well as the worry during the filling process was really frighten and unbearable. Time seemed going very slow. When getting older I know to take good care of the teeth would cut down the times of visiting the dentist. So nowadays I would like to visit my dentist whenever there is a need only Happy posting

Hi Lkbooi, You worded it same as I feel. Dentist are god when we suffer from severe toothaches. And for old ages, teeth plays an important role. But its also true cleaning, filling cavity all these process involves pain and fear not only on teeth and on mind as well. Nice that you have reduced visiting dentist often.

I go every six months. I don't mind going to the dentist the only thing I don't like about it is the loud tools. If they made quieter tools it would be better because hearing the loud tools makes it seem more painful than it actually is in my mind.

Hi dreamy1, Thats nice you regularly visit in six months. Oh yes its really noisy which adds more pressure to the pain. You are right its not just the pain on teeth, the noise adds pain on mind as well. Thats why i get little scared the day i visit the clinic.

Routine dental visits are important to hygiene and care of our teeth. even though it can seem like a pain and a nuisance, i would still visit my dentist on a regular basis. i would not be sorry that i did it.

Hi Sender621, You are right. Visiting dentist regularly is important for hygienic and good for health. I make myself practice to visit him on time. But its really painful or more sensitive on tooth after i reach home which makes me uncomfortable.

Visiting the dentist can be a scary experience. Growing up my mother never took me to the dentist regularly, and as a result I end up with a whole bunch of cavities. After turning 18 I couldn't afford to go to the dentist on my own. Now being 22 last year I finally got all the work I need done I had to get 7 teeth remove four being my wisdom teeth and three that started decaying. I had to get a whole bunch of fillings, two cleanings, and finally I finished up in March. Even though going to the dentist is scary it's not as bad as going to the emergency because you have unbearable toothaches.

Hi EricaBurns, You said it right For unbearable tooth problems, dentist is god. How did you bear 7 teeth removal. You have lots of pain bearing. I would cry rather, once i got my tooth removed it was terrible. The injection inside the gums and that tool he used for removing is more scary for me. But I agree that visiting dentist is good for our teeth.

When I was a little girl, I caught my mom's fear of the dentist. When she was a teenager back in the 1930's dentistry was not as advanced as it is today. She lived in a small town, and her dentist wasn't a very good one. You all know that long needle that the dentist uses to give the shots to dull the pain. That dentist went to give my mom that shot and the needle broke off in her jaw. It is no wonder my mother was afraid of dentists. I overheard her telling these stories when I was young. One week when I was in elementary school, my dad had to work in another city and Mom and I went with him. They enrolled me in a new school just for that week, and it happened to be the week children were being called out of class one by one to see a dentist who was there to check the teeth of each student. When I heard about this, I was so scared I went into the rest room to hide. My mother had to come and get me out and she explained the dentist was only going to look at my teeth -- nothing else. And that's what happened. Unfortunately, he found a couple of cavities, and when we got back home I had to start seeing the dentist for real. Until I moved away from home, I had to go regularly every year or so for the teeth cleaning, etc, and I also had lots of fillings when I was growing up. I think I even had one tooth pulled. I hated going to the dentist and having my teeth cleaned for all the same reasons the rest of you do. Back then the drills were much noisier than they are today. When I was in college, I had to visit a dentist when I came home sometimes. I went to UCLA, and this dentist had gone to SC, and the two schools are rivals. He would wait until he had my mouth propped open and couldn't talk, and then he would start talking about how good the SC teams was, and such things. I thought that was unkind. The funny thing is, after I grew up, I didn't seem to need as much dental work as when I was a child. But I did have to have a dental implant a couple of years ago. The pain wasn't as bad as not being able to eat real food while my mouth was healing. I am overdue for another dental visit and teeth cleaning session now, with a new dentist my husband likes, and my hairdresser also says he is good. I still dread going, and I hate giving up the time it takes out of my day to go. But I don't fear it as much as I used to because the dental equipment has advanced so much that it's a much quieter and less painful experience that it used to be. And since I hear dental problems can affect your heart, I realize I have to go to the dentist whether I want to or not.

Wow bagarad, your experience in visiting dentist encouraging me at right time and i feel less fear now. Hiding in restroom reminds my days, lol..me and my friends use to say we are sick and run out of the visiting room..lol. Funny memorable days. Its really scary to hear what happened to your mom, but good that latest technologies are not painful. I was bit upset after my bad experience with a wrong dentist. I never feared visiting any doctors as i care for health and for my family. But for past 5 months, am scared to visit any dentist. I had a teeth implant last April and he did alignment incorrect and it started to pain me much. My hubby took me again as he really missed my smile. So dentist removed it and while removing, the pain was just unbearable and it was shocking to know that it was the dentist first implant. Rather than the pain, the fear in my mind was more. You wont believe last week, i went to visit the dentist, but i did not feel like stepping in and returned home. I understand i got a fear in my mind after the hard painful experience and so may be a break of few months can help me set back to normal. But as you said, visiting dentist is good for all dental problems which may affect the heart and other parts. Need to regain my guts back! You words are encouraging me to face it!! Cheers!!!!

Hi Stephcjh, Nice to hear that you visit yearly twice. Infact i was not afraid first time when i visited dentist long years back. But when i sat on the seat for cleaning, seeing the tools, noise and teeth reaction, its really uncomfortable and pain in jaws make me think i should not come here again. But again i visit so as to clean it regularly.

Dear friend, May be about 3 years back I just went to dentist for tooth pick. Also had a teeth clean up. The tooth pick up was bit painful, it was an extra tooth that came out of the actual way it has to come. I know at times it would be a terrible experience when one of my aunt had a tooth problems. She was bed ridden for one week with pain in the teeth and cheek. After that no more dentist. After that I did had any tooth problems until now. Hope not to have any.

Hi Shamrack, I am happy to know you don't have any problems now. Its really terrible experience especially for older people. Pain in the teeth is never tolerable. I wish dentist can find some better ways to treat it without pain or fear in our mind. I have to go 6 months always for checkup, cannot escape.

well i usually hate going to the dentist because you have to open your mouth for more than 30 minutes and even hours. But that is the only reason why i hate going to the dentist.

I don;t visit my dentist regularly, just only when something inside my mouth hurts and my patience is worn enough to deal with the pain. The main reason that i don't visit my dentist is that I don't need. My set of teeth are perfectly fine and all I have to do is brush my teeth to keep them shiny and bright. However, earlier this year I detected a pain in my mouth that won't go away That forced me to visit my dentist. Turns out I had wisdom teeth erupting in my gum line and I have to remove it surgically. I consented to removing the tooth that is most likely to give damage but keep the other since the removal will cost me extra and the other tooth are giving me pain. Basically, that's only time I visited my dentist. Never stepped in that office since that day.

Yes I regularly visit my dentist every 6 months but if I encountered problem anytime. I'd rather asked the dentist extracted my teeth than endures the pain. The last time I visit her, she extracted 5 teeth at the same time. I make my mind busy wondering of something excitements to fights my nervous while sitting in the dentist chair. I did not see her though when comes the time she injected the anesthesia into my gum. If only there are other options for toothache I won't go for this process.

Hi gelayagui, You are really brave i would say removing 5 teeth. For me i got one teeth extracted, but that was terrible. Dentist injected me first when i was least expected. I believed when extracting the injection will make the portion numb and wont feel pain. But after few minutes he called and just pulled the teeth was really pain and fear at nerves both gums and mind. Will never go for teeth extraction ever.

I go to the dentist every six months for a cleaning. I don't mind the dentist that much, I just hate novicane shots. I hate going and getting a cavity filled or other major dental work done. But I don't mind a cleaning and as long as I make sure to go to those, I usually don't have to go in for a cavity or anything else.

Hi Neenie, You are lucky that you don't have much problems. My main problem is that i have a disorderly teeth, so I go for checkups as its not align-able. So I visit 6 months once for cleaning and make sure there are no cavities.

Hi besthope actually i visit my dentist every 5 months to have a cleaning but in my situation now i visit my dentist every 4 days because of my root canal going there every 4 days is giving me a tension because it is difficult every day having a new experienced. An experienced that i would not forget like a situation that they will put an Anastasia when every time they will put Anastasia i am scared because some Anastasia has an effect that if they will inject that you cannot feel the medicine going out to the needle of the injection , some also if they will press it you will fill the medicine going out and yes it is very very pain full i closed my eyes and when it is finish i open and my tears when out, different experiences because every time they will use a machine to clean a teeth some are pain full and the mc fear is to feel so much pain while doing that.
