The food that gets you going...

I can survive on bread, cheese/ butter alone. And if you are kind enough to give me any egg preparation - anything from boiled to sunny side up to scrambled - you would just make a feast for me.
What about you? Is there any food that alone can get you going? Any food that you cannot get enough of?

I start the day with a fruit meal, different kinds of fruit - most times banana and a slice of grapefuruit, kiwi, orange and so on, whatever is available.
I have a second fruit meal in the evening, apple, banana and some other fruit if I have..
One good meal for me is one or two eggs, a bit chicken or salmon, salad, tomato, onion and other veggies. That can keep me going a long time..
Carb meal is rye bread and butter and a porrige made of buckwheat and oat flakes with raising, all organic and almost no salt.
Eating carbs and proteins separated, helps to digest them and we can benefit better from the food..
I mix sometimes the carbs with yougurt, as I think it is almost digested due to the fermentation.
I´m not always so strict, but now and then it doesn´t matter much forgetting the diet..

I learned some years ago that fruit should be eaten on an empty stomach - they will pass further in 15 minutes or so. Bananas may take longer time..
If we eat fruit after a meal, it disturbs the digestion. Cooked fruit is ok as desert but not raw fruit.
If we have problems with the liver, it is wise to eat grapefruit instead of orages.
Yeah, let´s enjoy a lot of fruit..

On the contrary, here it's a usual belief that fruits should be eaten after food and not in empty stomach! Even though I eat them anytime, whenever it suits me or I feel like eating them, many here eat them only after food. Thanks for the reveal dear. I really appreciate.

That's really good to hear. I think, you have a pretty much balanced diet. Fruit diet is great and I sometimes have a meal out of favorite fruits.

I would have to choose bananas as they are a bit of a staple food in our house. We all eat them every day and use them as a base for our smoothies as well as just eating them on their own. They are great as they release sugars slowly, giving you sustained energy and not a sugar spike followed by a comedown as some other fruits can do.

Bananas are so filling and healthy. We have banana trees in our country house and we eat plantains, the core of the trunk and the flowers also. My mom prepares delicious food from the raw flowers and plantains.

It's the inside of the white fleshy trunk. Do not what it is called. the core is really juicy, soft and beautiful. My mom cuts it very fine and then sautes it in little oil, add herbs and spices very briefly and it is ready!

It is the mutton curry, chops dipped in eggs and fried and the meat balls my wife make.
I would give my right arm to her preparations as I can always enjoy her food with my left hand left.
PS:I forgot to add the prawn masala and the fish curry with bendi and raw mangoes plus the shredded crab meat with coconut powder.
Oh come on Mimpi please do bot put me in a tight situation.I am at a loss to pinpoint any particular food that gets me going.

We make a three course meal everyday for lunch and they are sambar rice, rasam rice and curd rice. THe vegetables are a sidedish [either made into a shallow fry or some other preparation]. Now this Rasam is a sort of a thin diluted sambar which is equivalent to a soup.We are used to having it with rice though many North Indians, Bengalis or Marathis [any other region except South India] relish it plain as soup. THis is something that is my staple food and I cannot live without this Rasam and rice.I can make do without anything else.

Rasam has been my favorite and I consider it a appetitizer. Yes soup! My mom has her customized version which may not be original that you do everyday, but I love it. And, I will await that day when I get to eat the rice and rasam sitting at your home right next to you, chichatting.

Definitely. You can be very sure of it .My son brings his friends home and makes me offer them my rasam. I have offered this to even foreigners and of course Bengali, Rajasthani Marathi , Punjabi friends and it is an alltime favourite with one and all I surely hope to give it to you one day.

Hi mimpi!
A bowl of any home cooked pulse (Dal) and home cooked plain bread (chapatti) would be fulfilling for me. Besides, if I am served a bowl of plain curd, it will be an added bonus. I can also survive on bread and butter/cheese, if there is nothing else to devour
. However, if you ask to survive on fruits only, I will find it difficult.

Nothing like 'gharka khana', deepak. After years of gorging in the restaurants, I find it so boring now. I find home made food, by my mom, more interesting and healthy.

I also do not much relish outside food which is not only expensive but sometimes more spicy, tangy and oily also in comparison to our home made food. What are moms cook for us is simply outstanding and beyond any comparison.

I love spaghetti. I can't get enough of it every single day. It has been my childhood favorite up to now that I have grown up into an adult. Second to spaghetti I adore California Maki. Yum!

Hi mimipi, For me at the moment is olives stuffed with baby gherkins, I can sit and eat a whole jar of each and the other food right now is a feta cheese salad which again has the olives in on a bed of lettuce with tomatoes with a balsamic vinegar and lemon juice dressing and lots of feta cheese. I love grits with cheese. It has to be made the right way too. I also love eating pork sausage patties with it too. But, I can't eat too much of these sausage patties because it will have me all clogged up. Plus, I don't want my cholesterol level to go up.

Hi mimpi, howz you?
Robinson Crusoe did not have even bread or eggs but he did not perish. And your diet also carry a message that we should not waste food because there are no people around to finish them.
These days I am too cutting on foods. Instead of 6 cups of tea or coffee just two cup of them. Morning and evening.
During full session in college very often I skip lunch. Since it gets too late coming home I do not take heavy food. Just a cup of tea and a few numbers of Marry gold biscuit.

Since you are skipping lunch, you must take wholesome breakfast. I am sure you are doing that. A good breakfast keeps you going all day long.

A couple of months ago, I would have said that there was no single food that I was craving all the time. However, in recent times that has changed. It started when I noticed that I was craving California rolls all the time. I couldn't understand what it was in them that I was craving and then we had hamburgers for dinner one night and I wanted avocado slices on it. That is when I realized that the thing that I am needing or wanting all the time is avocado. I don't have an explanation for it, but I know that I cannot get enough of them.

Good for you. I think, our cravings change with seasons. My cravings change too but bread and butter are my constant favorite. BTW, what's the California roll made of?

Now I am reminded of delicious French Toasts- made from bread and egg aren't they?
I can get along with those too.
And yes, give me fruits, in the morning, afternoon or night or even in the middle of the night. I'll survive on them.
It's the mango season now especially, so it can be just a ripe delicous mango or any preparation from it.

Bread is very good shout, also dry boiled pasta is rich of carbohydrites aswell as potatoes of which is rich in vitimins that keep the body going, i eat these as apart of my sports diet. Also after my competitive sport i have to have a meal rich in protein, for repairs of the body :)

Fajitas. I could quite happily live on them. mmm.... And to be fair, quite balanced as they have carbs, protein and veggies. Oh and dairy with sour cream. Easily live the rest of my life on them :)

Rice is great source of carb and eating it in the right quantity is just fine. The variations that chicken provide us with is indeed a boon.
