Tiny insults in Speech and yet respect at sea....?

When I was watching President Obama announce Bin Laden's death I had been surprised when he used the words "God Bless" as this is something he is normally very consequences of not saying. Now did he say it to alleviate anyone saying he is help the terrorist because they think he is Muslim, or did he say it as a jab towards the Islam community by shoving a Christian phrase in their faces? I actually thought of the insult immediately and had found it surprising really. I mean as I said he has been careful to this point not to bring religion into his speeches. What confused me more was when I read about the giving a burial at sea so quickly out of respect. Odd to me after what I thought was a blatant jab ( not that I cared, it was just an observation) to then give respect this way. I will admit when things seem wonky with our government it makes me nervous...

I don't think Obama saying 'God Bless' is anything disrespectful. He claims to be a Christian and that's what Christians do. I thought it was admirable that Obama reminded everyone he & Bush knew that we're are not and never were at war with Islam, just with the terrorists. I also am happy they followed the tradition in preparing UBL's body in Mulsin tradition. Everyone deserves that and UBL is gone so why not?

His family refused to take receipt of the body. His own country wouldn't take him. Obama did handle this honorably. I give him credit for that. The whole world was watching, he better have. And he knew that.

Well I can think of a few why not reasons and personally I felt the body should have been returned to the family after everything was said and done for them to handle their own way.

I think he said because he feels that is what America wants to hear. He has made several mistakes lately so he is n't being all that careful anymore. Like when he got nasty with the press. I wonder if that will ever blow over. I would sure hate his job. Have to be careful of this and that and oh, don't forget that. Ugh!

Well walking that tight rope is part of the job that's for sure! I wouldn't want it I have a big mouth and say the wrong thing often but coming from an area where it was so mixed there was no "norm" I am not sure as many would appreciate it as they would have 50,70,100 years ago.

He is religious when it benefits him. Sometimes I think he worships himself. He is always the center of attention and anyone who gets too close he moves to the back ground. just look at his acceptance speech when he brought out his family and then moved them off stage while he spoke. He is very willing to talk about what I have done and me, myself and I.

Well if you where to speak Arab and have a Bible Translated into Arabic it would say Allah everywhere you would find God so by him saying God Bless he isn't insulting the Muslim Community anymore than when someone says Allah Akbar is insulting the Christian Community as the translation would be God is Great. So this wasn't all that out of place considering that it would be translated into Arabic for those countries and it would be Allah Ysalmak (Assuming they use the Male form in their news cast.) So no tiny insults just the use of God Bless or Allah Ysalmak. I mean both the Muslim and Christian Ideologies believe in a one all powerful god and they both believe that the Bible is a Holy Book Muslims see the Quran as being the Newest Testament of God Christians don't and well the Jewish aren't that much go a difference between the two other similar Ideologies. They follow the Old Testament as they believe Jesus wasn't the son of God. And neither do the Muslims for that matter (At least from what I can remember).

Yes it is true that the three main religions are from the same base religion but something about that seems to enrage extremists! It is insulting to them to believe we could be so close. I do not mean just Islam in this. I know Catholics who would sew their mouths shut then admit a /Jews or Muslim is even religiously close at all. A local Baptist church here preaches one shouldn't be involved even in different Christian sect none to mind religions. The wars that have gone on for centuries in the middle east are a perfect example of this as well.

Since I'm not religious, that kinda stuff doesn't usually strike me as odd. To me, it's just a figure of speech. I've heard "God bless" associated with America all my life, especially when politicians have something important to say.

Usually yes but Obama has been very careful not to use phrases like that which was why it stuck out to me. I just found it curious.

He wants to be identified with the patriotic surge this event will bring. Saying that will make it easier for the Conservative Christian to accept what he is implying.

He is a Christian (although Liberal.) Many people get the false impression that he is pro gay or pro Muslim, when the fact is that he is a sensitive type who does not like to see anybody downtrodden (which is why he is for Democracy in the Arab and Muslim countries. He is for fairness. And although not a Muslim, he does respect Muslims. So the burial at sea is a sign of respect, and knowledge that not burying bin Laden properly would create more problems in a troubled world. Now there's a debate about whether it was the proper thing to do. As for God Bless, it is something that most of us, I notice even atheists, say sometimes. Being a Christian who was brought up in a Christian atmosphere, that is something that he would normally say.

He was bought up in a Muslim atmosphere. He says so himself. He said 'God Bless' because he wants to be reelected. As for not wanting to see anyone downtrodden, then why is he 'trodding' (sic) all over us with things like 'prolonged detention' for those who are labeled 'domestic terrorists' as in returning vets, pro life activists, and NRA memebers? He's campaigning folks. 'I', 'me', 'my'. Watch the speech and count those words. I do give him credit where it is due. But I'm not going to forget why I want him out of the White House just cause he gave an order to shoot. OUR TROOPS did this, our troops and our intelligence personel.

That is it though He doesn't normally use it and has said he doesn't out of respect for all of the religions in our country which is what the surprise for me was.
