Hi friends...
Jail... i think no one wish to visit the jail. I do believe. But there may be some reasons that you have visited jail without being a criminal... so, i just want to know why and when you visited jail? Please be frank here.
Well, i have visited once in my life and its almost months ago. I wished to meet a lady who killed her hubby for a reason and yes, she is a lady of my coming novel. I have observed the entire environment of a jail and sure i will die if i have to live there for hours. I dont know how they can live there from years.
if you visit the jail, then why? and yes, can you imagine yourself staying in jail? how many days you can stay there?
please share and thanks in advance.

Hi mamu
I had been to the jail once to give food to one of my friends. He was wrongly accused in some forgery case which he never did. He stayed there for 14 long days. But ater came out winner.
I am not going to be think how many days I can stay in such places... I think, Tihar Jails VVIP section would be ok but nothing less than that for me. Or maybe something like they did for Kasab at Mumbai... But why?

dear bhai,
Last week of April 26,2011 i just visited a jail.
We've conducted a medical mission for those people who are in jail.
But i didn't have the chance to see or roam around,i mean the inside where prisoners are being locked up.
I never been into the deepest corner of any jail..wish i can see how it looks in real.
We are being guarded well,so no chance of knowing them much.
We never stayed there for long, and every in mates that are done with their check-ups are guided back to their rooms.
It's not a maximum prison, but cops are just giving us protection.
One day i wish i can visit the jail again and see the rooms and have chit-chat with inmates.
have a great day

I think I will go to Germany and commit some crime. Their jail has a computer and a nice neat bed, and a nice toilet with closed door. Lamby loaded the picture of it sometime ago. I thought it would be great. No cooking, cleaning just that one room. And an access to myLot. What else do I want? No relatives.. ha ha.

Hi shibham,
I remember as a child being dragged to one with a foster family I lived with. The mother's son was in jail for attempted murder, as a child I had no choices but to go, so I remember being so scared as it was a 9 hour drive to go there. Upon entering they searched me and I felt so invaded. Once escorted into the visitors room, I was so scared to be around the many prisoners. They were so scary looking, imagine an 8 year old sitting there around this environment. It was more heart wrenching to see the mother crying her eyes out as her son was taken back after visiting hours.
I was so scared and vowed I would never re-visit out of choice ever. To date, so thankful I have never had to set foot. I can't imagine what that type of life would be like, I just know I would not survive very long. I would have a nervous breakdown or something because I would be way too scared. I am just imagining that it would take a lot of courage to be able to survive in a jail.

Hi HWG
I am really confused here why a 8 yeas old criminal was living in same jail with adults. Here, we have separate jails for under adult criminals. Its truth that too hard to face those criminals who have done crimes like murder or rape and as they are heartless.
Hahahaha... no one wish to stay in jail as the environment of a jail is really scary and unhealthy. thats why its jail and criminals have to live for their crime.
Have a nice day.

I just re-read my response and I can see where the confusion was. I was the 8 year old child that my foster parents took me along with them to visit their son, who at the times was 19 years old. So as an eight year old child that I was being in that type of environment with the many prisoners in the same room was quite scary for me.

The only time I have visited a jail was way back in the early 90s when I was dating a guy that ended up in jail. It was from some prior convictions to before we met, and was nothing serious, but still somewhere I hope he has never been since. There have been times though with now being a devoted Christian where it would be interesting to go to the jails and talk with some of the people there, and share Gods word to help get them thru their day and to think about what they have done.

hi friend..
Very well said. Most often the criminals regret in jail for their past and need some moral support. Its hard to find it on jail but outsiders can give it. I have met a criminal who cried a lot after meeting me and regretted a lot.
Have a nice day.

Hello Shibham,
I never visited a jail and I think I haven’t seen any jail in real life. I have seen the jail in movies only. And people who live in there is not living there on their own will but on their fate. They must have done some crime in the past. I think they won’t do any crime in their life once they released from the Jail. The experience may be like that.
Hope you got enough input for your novel
. Please send me a copy of your novel once it is published (if it is in English).

Hi sree...
Not fate exactly for their crime. who said them to commit a crime for which they are imprisoned? No, there are some criminals who commit crime after crime. Once a police personal said to me that there was a pickpocket who commit crime for the food of jail as he was lazy to work and that was the easy process. lol
yes, i shall try to send you. have a nice day.

i never visited a jail..and i have only seen how its like in televisions and in documentaries. Philippine jails are really cramped and suffocating and at times unsanitary sad to say because there are just toooo many inmates! Like you, i cannot also imagine waking up the same day knowing you are there where you are yseterdy, doing the same thing again and again and do not have the freedom..but then it is the price they pay for being "bad".. will i be visiting one? hope not, its just scary for me.. but we never know. i might for charity if someone will invite me..

I once took a family to a prison so they could vist their son. He had been in there for several years and the family had no means of transportation. I felt bad when I would hear them talk about never getting to see him. His mother wrote him faithfully most everyday. I took them there. It was a scary place. I could not imagine having to stay there for even a day. It was hard to stay there during the visiting period and I wasn't even near the living quarters.

Great to know that you are a writer.Actually I am also a writer. And i also like to visit these kind of places to search the topic of my next novel or article. By the way, I also do like very much visiting jails and taking interview types with these criminals in jails and hearing about their stories, and why did they do a crime, how and when, etc. And if there is a question that how many days can i stay in a jail for this activity, my answer would be approx 20-25 days.

Thanks. although these are fictions but based on reality, hence a writer should face the proper experiences so that he can establish it with skillfully.
Its really interesting to hear several stories but there are some pathetic stories also who are accused without any crime. may be trapped by someone.
By the way, have you ever visited morgue?
have a nice day.

I've visited a local jail once, it was to see a friend who was accused of murder which was really not true, what happened was a man who is from a very influential family in our province went home drunk driving his motorcycle, he crashed just meters away from where my friend and his friends/cousins got together, they helped the man to the hospital and they got accused of murder! Even his mother was imprisoned! (the family of that man can't accept that it was an accident!) It was really a downer because she just helped...I really felt sorry for my friend, I can't imagine being cooped up in a prison, I'll go berserk! Thankfully they were cleared and he and his mother are now free...but still I can't believe how powerful people could tramp on ordinary people just to get what they want...

Hi friend..
I have faced same once in my life but not horrific like your one. A drunker fell in the drain just in front of my home. When i saw, i ran to help him but rather thanking me he begin to scold me with slang words. It really irritated me and mom also scolded me for his indecency.
Sometimes its really challenging to help someone where there are chances to get accused. Sorry for your friend and family.
Have a nice day.

My mother was in jail during most of my childhood and I was often taken there to see her. After a few years I refused to go. I had no desire to set foot in there to see someone who had done this to herself. I hated the jail, it was so awful. I don't think I would be able to be there more than a few hours without going insane.
Good luck on your novel!!

I have visited a prison during the festive period to distribute gifts to inmates that was several months ago. It was a prison in Nigeria and like most prison in africa it was dirty and unkept.
I really saw the deplorable situation in the prison environments. The prisons I saw were living in a very poor condition. I know prison yard is not a luxury apartment but rather a correction centre meant to improve on the character of the criminal. But keeping a human locked up for years in such a condition is very bad.
I can not imagine myself staying in such an environment. I can not stay there more than a week. But it was quite shocking to see human live there for years.
I think this kind of situation only helps to tell us to be law abiding and not to break the law.

Hi dear..
Not only in africa, the environment of jail is dirty and unhygienic in many countries.
there are luxurious condition for vip criminals only but not in every jails... In some certain jails have good accommodation to them which seems awkward to me as all are criminals and should be treated equally.
have a nice day.
