Stop trying to define yourself by external factors. Realize that ego is an illusion and make a conscious decision to stop letting your mind tell you lies and adapt your actions to the truth that you are not inferior to anyone or anything. Namaste.

For me, writing has been a big help if i'm feeling REALLY depressed. Also, listening to music. The biggest, and sometimes, hardest step for me is being able to talk it out with my support system of caring friends I have finally found.

first of all, it's important to remember that depression is not an emotion. it's an illness. when you accept this, then you can think of logical ways to manage that illness and improve the way. feeling sad is one of the symptoms of depression. it isn't the illness itself, but one of the symptoms. so you have to treat the disorder and not the sadness. depression is an imbalance of chemicals in the brain. and in some cases, improving your diet and excercising more, spending more time outside, can help to balance the brain chemistry and reduce the symptoms of depression.

Go to Youtube and look up Eckhart Tolle. He is a spiritual teacher, not specific to any religion, no agenda. He is amazing and he has helped me a lot. He talks about letting go of ego and living in the now. He was once depressed, but then he realized that he is more than just his life story and it changed his life significantly. Look at him now and you never would have guessed that he once suffered from depression. He always seems so happy and genuine. Never fails to lift my mood. I used to be on pills too. I do not believe in them. Chemicals aren't going to solve anything. If we want to be happy, the change needs to happen in our minds, in how we perceive the world. I wish you the best of luck.

6 years ago I had a severe depression and I will tell you about some of things that helped me. I spent some time outside every day. At first I walked for half an hour a day and later I changed it to to one hour and even later two hours a day. When I started I didn't really think long walks would make a difference,, but it was one of the things that made me feel better. Another thing that helped me was trip that my parents bought for me. Before I left I had no energy, and it was a challenge to pack my suitcase and get ready for the trip, but once I was there some of my sadness disappeared and the new experiences helped me focus on something else. That last thing that helped me was psychoterapy, because I had a very good therapist.

I suffered from depression about 7 years ago. I can't eat at all, I always have sleepless night. I only drink lemonade during that time. The sight of food makes me puke. I don't know how I was able to get out it, probably because of prayer. That is the darkest moment of my life but I never did lose hope since I know that God is my light.

Sometimes the best and the most effective way to cope with depression is in a supportive way. Supports from our friend and families is what we need the most. Happiness is also the way to stay out of depression. Try to eat some chocolates it really helps.
